Bear-Hugging Pizzeria Owner Feel Boycott After Obama Visit

Pizza and politics may not mix, at least a restaurant owner photographed bear-hugging President Obama.

Scott Van Duzer, the owner of the Florida pizza shop, struck fame for a photograph of him lifting President Barack Obama off the floor with a bear hug at his Big Apple Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Fort Pierce in Sunday during a last-minute visit from the Commander-in-Chief.

The photograph made the front pages of newspapers around the country and the image was an Internet sensation at warp speed.

The good will was short-lived for Van Duzer though. He told Politico that people are boycotting his business because of the famous presidential hug.

“People are saying a lot of bad things and boycotting my restaurant,” Scott Van Duzer, 46, told Politico. “There’s no middle line anymore, and that’s exactly what’s wrong with our country right now.”

There IS no middle line anymore, either you are part of the effort to take down this country or you're against it.

The middle line is the front line. And everyone knows which side he's on.

What does he expect---Obama's brown shirts to herd customers over from Chick fil A at the point of a bayonet?

Not during the election season...

After seeing the picture of the hug...

It’s a good thing Obama wore his brown pants!

Weightlifter chick definitely gets the award for most pounds lifted. Doesn’t the story say Baraq is estimated at 170?

I’d guess bubble@ss is 10 or 15 more than him.

I think that he is lying also, he seems to be skilled at self promotion, and is milking this.

Recall the recent difficulties experienced by Dan Cathy. Many of the participants in the “buycott” did so because of free speech concerns.

If you don't like the politics of this pizza guy, then just don't go. Announcing and encouraging a boycott could very well backfire.

Your Democrat pals started it with Bush, pal.

For me it was when the senate democrats Borked Robert Bork, and the press cheered when Reagan was shot.

Maybe. Maybe not. But that is free speech just as much as DUzer's actions. I haven't seen anyone suggest he doesn't or shouldn't have the right to promote 0bungles or tell this lie about being boycotted.

How could he possibly see a business trend in 18 hours? How many of those hours was he even open? Whining about a boycott was probably planned a couple of months ago right along with the planning for 0bummer’s “spontaneous” visit. lol

Sorry, but I have to agree with the guy. He hasn’t done anything deserving of a boycott

A boycott is an organized movement, where there are leaders who actively communicate with their followers, in order to punish a business for some perceived wrongdoing. This is not a boycott. This is the cumulative individual acts of consumers who so dislike Obama that they choose not to buy their pizza from a storeowner who so enthusiastically supports him.

When you cater to the public, you should know your customers sensibilities, and take care not to reveal personally held views that may alienate the customers you serve. For example, if you have a lot of Jewish customers, you wouldn't want to go around shouting "I love Jesus" or, better yet, "I love Islam". And if you did, and you lost those customers, then yes, you are a fool, and you deserved it.

This will be used to negate the public opinion problems that the left experienced due to their boycott of Chick-fil-A. Don’t fall for it, don’t publicize or encourage it. If you’re local then just don’t patronize the place, if his politics disturb you. Quietly.

Plus no conservative even thought of a boycott, a boycott because the restaurant owner hugged the president?

When I fist saw his claim the word leaped out at me, boycott? huh? who? what for? it rang completely false to my ear.

We are part of the segment of the populace that would be creating, or supporting the boycott, when we all are puzzled by the very idea of a boycott, then something isn’t kosher with his claim.

Hugging, touching and fawning over obama-the-muslim exudes a creepy-dirty contamination. I wouldn’t want him making my pizza. It’s too bad but he should have known better. He’s become the poster child for “Oh no, shouldn’t have done that”.

He actively used his business to support Obama’s presidential campaign. He sure doesn’t deserve my money.

I'm sorry I don't buy that. For starters the leftist press isn't going to give this coverage.
