Twenty five thousand Chicago teachers are planning to walk off the job Monday if they don't have a contract by midnight Sunday. As the Democrats look to unions to help them get out the vote, a strike by Chicago teachers might just put a crimp in those plans.
On Friday during rush hour, a handful of parents and students stood on a bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway, holding signs that read, "Honk if you support teachers." Among them is Rhoda Gutierrez, who has two children in a Chicago public elementary school.
"We're here because we know this makes not just an impact on our city, but nationally," she says.

fire their lazy azzes and hire new, it would have to be a huge improvement
In Chicago, the children in question are but targets or potential targets for the murderers who freely roam the city streets.
Paying teachers more money to educate a new generation of such murdering detritus is counter productive
We’re here because we know this makes not just an impact on our city, but nationally,” she says.
Yeah we need more dumb as#es in government
It seems to me the Democrats are frozen in place with their encouragement of identity politics and bloc voting. Here’s another example:http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/20091813/baltimore-politician-asks-ravens-to-get-brendon-ayanbadejo-to-back-down-on-pro-gay-marriage-stance.
Obozo’s cobbled together an unsustainable coalition, so that if he moves in one direction , he begins to bite into promises made to somebody else. Therefore, the only strategy is to demonize the outsider, but with his past talk of “civility,” he appears to be more of a hypocrite all the time. Romney need to press him on these issues like never before, like do you want your children to get a good education or do you want to pay more in taxes to support teacher union pensions and Democrat contributions? He can more easily take the side of the individual.
I remember when this kind of scum went on strike in the ‘70s — I was a kid. I’ve had contempt for the #ing bastards ever since.
FOAD, mofus!!!
You mean the local gangsters?
I hope this doesn’t cause violence to break out in the great city of Chicago ...
people could get killed.
The union members know that the Dems will need them in order to carry Illinois. They want their payment IN ADVANCE.
Emmanuel should just fire all of them, en masse.
Bingo !!!
Gee, things just have gone to hell in Chicago since Obama and the Ward Heeler’s daughter have left town. Maybe the strike will be over in January 2013.
Chicago schoolchildren have the SHORTEST SCHOOL DAY in the country, and Chicago Teachers are the HIGHEST PAID in the country.
See the problem?
The Chicago Public School say is 5 hours, 30 minutes. Of that 5 hours 30 minutes, 30 minutes is spent for lunch, another 30 minutes for recess.
That means Chicago Public School teachers spend approximately 4 hours, 30 minutes "teaching" these kids.
Any wonder why Chicago's High School graduation rate is the lowest in the country?
And for this, the Chicago Public School Teachers want a 28%+ raise.
f'ing incredible.
His Predecessor, Paul Vallas was actually driving test scores UP and graduation rates UP even with the system rigged against him, Duncan drove them right back down, driving the graduation rate below 50%.
Thank GOD I don't live in Chicago, even though I'm still stuck in the People's RepuliK of Illannoyed.
” What about the children?”
Who will notice the difference?
I bet if you gave these so-called “teachers” a 200% raise they still couldn’t “teach” the kids. The teacher class is full of pin-headed slacking morons who are a parasitic class. When you went to college was it the “best and brightest” who went into education?
If I remember correctly, the vast majority of these vile POS “teachers” send their own kids to private or parochial schools due to the “learning environment” they themselves have created. Their private school tuition rates must have increased...
