Wasserman Schultz calls Jerusalem omission from platform 'technical error' By Daniel Strauss - 09/06/12 09:15 AM ET
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) explained the exclusion of language recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital in the 2012 Democratic national platform as a "technical error" that had not been discussed at all during the drafting process.
"Essentially, with Jerusalem, it was a technical omission and nothing more than that," Wasserman Schultz said Thursday on CNN. "There was never any discussion or debate commentary over adding or subtracting it."
A day earlier, Democrats amended the 2012 party platform to include language recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The language had previously not been in the 2012 platform, but was included in the 2008 platform. President Obama himself reportedly intervened to make sure the language was included in the latest platform.
Wasserman Schultz stressed that the missing language did not reflect Obama's view on Israel and that the change was simply made in response to criticism. She stressed that it was just "essentially a technical omission." Aides to Obama stressed Thursday that the president did not know the language was missing in the party platform until Wednesday, just before the language was promptly changed.
"The adding of Jerusalem into the platform was making sure that the platform reflected more clarity on what was already a strongly pro-Israel platform that reflects President Obama's view," Wasserman Schultz said.
The DNC chairwoman said that Obama wanted to make sure the language was in there just to make clear his administration's strong pro-Israel position.
"And so, for purposes of clarity he thought it was important to add that in," Wasserman Schultz said.
Republicans were quick to criticize Democrats for the omission. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the missing language and the change to the party platform reflected the Obama administration's "vacillating" stance toward Israel.
"President Obamas failure to take a coherent and decisive stand in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel reflects his administrations vacillating policies toward the Jewish state," Cantor said in a statement released by Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
Cantor added that the entire episode of changing the language was "a case study in political posturing."
She acted like there was no discord and that it was definitely a 2/3rds support.... after it failed 3 times and caused there to be a short lockout by the Fire Marshal.
She was also asked if omitting God was a “technical omission” but she failed to respond.
If this was a technical error, then what does that say about her and the Democrat platform committee?
Based on her hearing, she really thinks that it was clear that 2/3 of the delegates supported the platform change???? Really???
Can you imagine if they had gone to a roll call vote on the issue?????
Villaraigosa seemed stunned about what happened with that vote. See, there can be unscripted moments at conventions after all.

There was some discussion about Obama and his denial of Jerusalem as the capital...It wasn’t very long ago. Obama took a big hit on it and I’m sure leaving it out was NOT in any way a technical error but on Obama’s orders.
Watching Dizzy Debbie spin so fast is making my head hurt...
Typical lying liberal..They are getting caught now so maybe the people of America will listen up..She along with other fools like her make me want to puke..
bump
You know, her response is actually the most telling part of her Party and this Administration. At every turn, they are constantly saying that papers, bills, legislation, speeches, etc. were not fully reviewed before presenting. That equals INCOMPETENCE! Obama and the Democrat Party are many things, but above all at this point in time, they are INCOMPETENT!
They are doing everything they can to create diversions and controversies. Obama cannot run on his record or the economy. Conservatives need to keep their eyes on the ball and not allow themselves to be duped into letting the Democrats decide which field the battle will be fought on.
Very astute point. These “controversies” are all staged and planned to divert attention.

But it WAS scripted, which makes this event even more astonishing. Someone posted a photo here of his teleprompter flat screen TV. It read: “Hearing a 2/3 majority, the motion has passed.”
That’s why he spoke the first few words, even though it was obvious that the voice vote was divided. He was simply reading the teleprompter. The fix was in. But the delegates weren’t in on it. He heard the response, and knew he was in trouble. He knew what result he was SUPPOSED to get, which is why he tried two more times.
This convention will live in infamy, despite the media’s attempt to suppress it.
You don’t accidentally remove something that has been there for decades. It has to be a conscious effort........
I really wish somebody would play with the teleprompted, like in “Anchorman”.
“I’m Barack Obama....Go F Yourself, America.”
I am stunned to hear about the voice vote and the teleprompter.
I can’t believe he was reading a teleprompter to tell him what to say as he conducted the vote on that issue.
Do you mean to say that, a routine matter such as conducting a vote on a matter being considered by the convention has to be scripted?? I’m stunned.
This woman lies as naturally as breathing.
The Israeli ambassador never said the ‘Republicans are dangerous for Israel’, as she has said on tape. Then she lied as said she never said that. I don’t believe her, nor do I believe Clinton.
I think we can safely say by now this convention has been nothing but an unmitigated disaster for the ‘rats. Clinton gave a good rousing speech last night even though 90% of what he said was BS. Probably the only thing he told that was truthful was how both parties should work together. But other than that, unless the Kenyan gives the greatest speech in all of humanity tonight, this thing has done them more harm than good. Their black voter base definitely has to be messed up by now, first with the gay marriage then taking God out..I guess they forgot blacks go to church.
