When the documentary "2016: Obama's America" was released at fewer than 200 theaters earlier this month, Democrats, liberals and other Obama supporters speedily dismissed it as a right-wing polemic, destined to quickly disappear into the nether land of late-night cable and GOP fundraisers.
But the movie, pushed nonstop by conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, took off. When it expanded nationwide to 1,091 screens last weekend, it earned $6.5 million, the seventh-highest weekend gross in the nation.
Finding a documentary among the top 10 box office moneymakers in any week "is very, very rare," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. "And it seems to be a grassroots effort. It's not like I'm driving by any huge billboards here in Los Angeles."

The Chick-fil-A of movies.
"I feel all that we've done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."
...suck on this mr president “empty chair”
Saw it last weekend, wow what an eye opener when it’s all put together.
At the end of the film, the audience I was in (myself included)broke out into spontaneous applause.
Anyboody whq hasn’t see this needs to go. It is a little frightning.
I went last night in Osage Beach, MO and it was packed! We brought a couple that voted for Obama last time. She said the film scared her. I liked the movie alot. He was more than fair to Pres. Obama.

I noticed something strange on IMDB during the time before and after this movie was released.
Before it was released, “2016,” was on the main page under the, “Opening This Week,” section to the right. It was also in the, “Coming soon,” section.
After it was released, it vanished.
Usually titles of movies released will stay in one of those areas for a day or two.
Not, “2016,” though.
One can still do a search for it, but that’s about it.
More and more this election becomes “just get rid of Obama” and not a celebration of candidates. I think the average person who rarely follows politics is getting involved..and does not like what he or she sees..
I just went to Boxoffice mojo to see where it raked and they did not have it listed. On Thursday it was ranked #3 but as of Friday it is not listed. Is the film still showing?
I remember seeing the movie “W” (2008) in a very very deep blue college town. The audience jeered — I guess they thought the movie was supposed to help them reinforce their decision going in to the polling place — but I felt it was really a more sympathetic movie than I’d anticipated.
That's like when the media says "but we don't know any pro-lifers so why should we cover them?"
The media loves to pretend it doesn't see what it doesn't see. The target audience is Middle America, not L.A. or NY. Let those continue to be ignorant so long as the folks in Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri are watching.

Yes. And I hope the average person later thinks about which party and which portions of the MSN (hint: not Fox) pushed this “man” upon the nation.
In other news: My liberal brother is voting for Romney/Ryan! Holy marshmallow! You've got to understand - Obama WAS god to him. WAS. Now he says he has no faith in him.
I'm hoping there are many like him.
Still there in the Weekly/Weekend tab
MIL MA born and bred and still lives there, voted Dem all her life until Brown and now she said she will not vote for obama at all this time around.
