I've heard that the Romney team vetted all speeches made at the recently-completed GOP convention. Now, I didn't watch the whole convention and only caught the speeches by both of the Romneys, Ryan, and Christie, but I did do a quick word search of the text of the speeches by the Romneys, Bush, Christie, Ryan, Rice, Huckabee, Santorum, as well as McCain and Cruz. In all of these speeches there was not even so much as an oblique reference to Governor Palin, not even by Ann Romney, who glossed eloquent otherwise on motherhood, McCain - who selected Palin as his running mate, or Cruz, who, as he himself has admitted, owes his primary win to Palin.
Sarah was also scrubbed from the lineup of Fox contributors on the last couple of days of the coverage.
Did anyone who may have watched or listened to parts of the convention I missed notice any mention at all of the GOP's candidate for veep in the last cycle. Just wondering. I know the convention was quite properly to be a celebration of Romney, the nominee. But it sure smells like a Stalinesque "disappearing" by the eGOP is underway.
I believe the planners of the convention tried to minimize the ammunition they gave to the crazies in the Obama cap and the Obama Media Group.
Why provide your enemy with issues that can be used to muddy your message and detract from your agenda?
No matter how we feel about Sarah, the left has been successful in demonizing her and turning her into a lightning rod.
The convention and campaign to throw Obama out of the White House have priority.
The reason Sarah and the TEA party were not mentioned is that Mitt’s speech was designed for the general populace, not the attendees and he had to reach them, which I believe he did.
I think Sarah is lurking in the weeds and does not want to get too close to a Mitt Romney administration. If Mitt enrages the conservative base like GWB did, she’s setting herself up to lead the revolution.
As a Palin fan, I agree. IMO, conservatives are showing an increased tendency to do just that with candidates. Romney gave a great speech last night, but when I see comments such as "I think he will be our King David", I become very concerned.
So what.
Palin is a non-person to the GOP.
I guess you missed this then...
I only watched last night, but I don't recall any mention of the Constitution, and plenty could and should have been said about the current administration's disregard for that all-important document.
100% agree, and she has fired a few shots across the bow of the GOPe ship of state.
Why would anyone expect there would be anything said about Sarah? Not only was there no reason to be talking about her but Sarah obviously is not interested in stealing Romney’s thunder since she turned down a slot on stage.
John Birchers (Eisenhower is part of the Communist Conspiracy) were nuts.
Because McCain was there. If the former Presidential candidate was speaking, there should have been SOME acknowledgement of his running mate.....by him if nobody else. As I said....small morality GOP types.....including McCain.
You Teapartiers are just a nuisance to the party bosses.
I guess you also believe the Tea Party is nothing but race hating, gun happy, fanatics. It must be true because the liberals tell us so.
Difficult to make sense of this - where would her name have been worked in to make any sense?
I am pretty sure Ted Cruz mentioned the tea party and all the Republican victories in the last couple of years...
I disagree completely. The purpose of the convention is to collect money to elect the candidates, to coordinate face to face among party leaders to help elect the candidates, to run a multi-day infomercial and advertisement to help elect the candidates, and to motivate the base so they will get out there and work . . . to help elect the candidates. Reminding the conservatives any more than necessary that we are not getting our top choice does not help to accomplish the convention's purpose. In 2016, if she throws her hat into the ring, I'd happily volunteer to work for her free and full time. Sarah Palin is my favorite politician since Ronald Reagan, and she could surpass Reagan if she runs in 2016, but this convention was not supposed to be about her. Had the speakers emphasized Sarah, it would have hurt in terms of accomplishing their goals.
What they generally do is to
(1) showcase old timers (former presidents or other figures who are too old to run again. or otherwise excluded, such as Clinton from the Democrats and Clint Eastwood last night),
(2) bring in losers from the primary who have been offered a place in the Administration and agreed to work to elect the candidate (such as Huckabee), and
(3) introduce new, rising stars, such as Obama a couple conventions ago for the Dems and Rubio last night for the GOP.
Sarah does not fit the mold for any of the traditional convention speaking situations. Actually, Sarah never fits the mold, which is why we love her.
