Rove makes Akin murder joke

In a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.

“We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!” joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser.

Sheelah Kolhatkar, an editor for Bloomberg Businessweek, was invited to the event as a guest of top Republican donor who was aware she was a journalist. The invite gave her a behind-the-scenes look at the otherwise-private event.

At the event, Rove urged attendees to urge Akin to get out of the race, citing Missouri’s Senate race as a major obstacle to Republicans taking over the Senate.

“We have five people who are interested” in replacing Akin as the Senate candidate, Rove said. “We don’t care who the nominee is, other than get Akin out.”

Rove and other top Republicans called on Akin to leave the race after his controversial comments two weeks ago on “legitimate rape” and his mistaken comment about how conception through rape rarely occurs.

That’s an honorable position, Kindred.

Mark Levin is a loose cannon and a hypocrite, he is Mr Knee Jerk himself and rarely thinks things thru. Levin was one of the first to start piling on Akin when conservatives should have been defending Akins'. The GOP is suppose to be pro-life but look how quickly they throw under the bus someone that states the pro-life position. That should tell you all you need to know about Republicans like Mark Levin. Mine guess is Levin figured out which way the wind is blowing on the Akins' thing and is making a self serving course correction. Typical of one with few/no conservative principles.

"Mark Levin called on Todd Akin to step aside today because he says this race is far too important for Akin to risk losing over his thoughtless comments.

Rove is a despicable creature. Always has been...in my view.

I agree.

<>Apology doesn’t mean Diddly Rove is still Rove An elitist creep<>

Here is the story in the KC Star. Don’t you just love the word “purportedly” by the writer. It is no longer “purportedly” after he apologized for it.

I’m sure that Rove danced around all day on Friday trying to figure out how to deny his joke, even sending his blogger deniers into the internetosphere — but too many people heard him and saw his lips move:

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/31/3790575/akin-staff-upset-by-roves-joke.html

While Todd Akin has shown that he can give an apology and accept one, Karl Rove has yet to.

When Akin apologized his campaign spent two weeks of commercials apologizing over the aire. Rove should do the same — put his money where his apologetic words were. He should start running anti-McCaskill adds in Missouri or give the Akin campaign enough to run their own.

We’re waiting Karl.

I received this announcement in an email today.

RALLY FOR TODD AKIN and THE PRINCIPLES OF LIBERTY
Saturday Sept 8th
12 - 2 pm
Todd Akin will be at the rally
Camden County Courthouse
313 Court Circle Camdenton, MO 65020

Please join us as we stand unified to fight for the principles of liberty. First they came for Todd Akin, in a reckless disregard for how our state voted and now they are working in Tampa and have shown the same reckless disregard for grassroots conservatives, Christians, Pro Lifers and RP supporters by changing the rules to empower the kingmakers and to control our elections going forward.

It is time to stand for the principles of liberty, to push back and let the RNC and power brokers know that we are not going to take it! This is our fight to win or lose!

Lets go Missouri and take back the Senate seat occupied by socialist Claire for the past 6 years!

Please help get the word out!
If anyone can help in setting up it would be appreciated.

Lake Area Conservative Club
Missouri Republican Assembly

With happy quipsters like that on our side, who needs the Drive-By Media?

Hmmm. It just occurred to me...

“Only Nixon could go to China.”

Okay, so the illustrious Karl Rove made his own outrageous gaffe.

Could this possibly open the door to Party support for Akin in the near future?

We can thank Fox News for giving Karl Rove a media platform after the end of his horrendous management of Bush’s 2nd term. Rove should be completely persona non grata in the Republican Party, but for some reason he is held up as a political God.

So, Jonah Goldberg says the GOP would be better off without pro-lifers? Well, I say the GOP would be better off in Rove had indeed been frog marched according to the wishes of Howard Dean. Rove is the GOP version of James Carville.

Fox News is helping destroy conservativism by propping up fake conservatives like Krauthammer, Kristol, and Rove. During the Reagan Revolution, Krauthammer was writing Walter Mondale’s speeches in 1984, yet today Krauthammer is some big conservative? C’mon; your kidding me.

A number of these media players are political whores. They'll espouse whatever view their employer wants them to.

Some of the peripheral players in the Reagan revolution went on to surprise me with their idiocy too.

How dare Rove say “we have 5 people interested in running”. This Senate seat BELONGS to the PEOPLE of MO, not some GOP weasel bureaucrat. I used to think Rove was a good guy but he is not.

TURNABOUT: Now calls for Rove to go!

Bush adviser ‘jokes’ about murder of Missouri Senate candidate Akin

A growing list of Republicans and conservatives are calling for longtime Republican adviser Karl Rove to step away from GOP campaign efforts after the strategist jested that he might have to murder Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo.

William Murray, who heads the Government is Not God Political Action Committee and chairs the Religious Freedom Coalition, said today that the comment “was so distasteful as to shame the entire Republican Party.”

“Congressman Akin made a misstatement on the subject of rape and conception for which he apologized,” he said. “Apparently Karl Rove believes the apology is not enough and that Akin should pay with his life. Jokes about murder are not jokes when it comes to politicians where the risks of assassination are real.”

Conservative icon and founder of the Eagle Forum Phyllis Schlafly echoed the calls for Rove’s resignation........

“We have five people who are interested” in replacing Akin, the report quoted Rove saying. “We don’t care who the nominee is, other than get Akin out.”

Just who is "we" Karl??? And why would "we" be involved in this decision???

As bothersome as Rove's "murder" comment is, this ranks right up there.

Let's see if this is murder joke of his and his subsequent apology is brought up on any of the Sunday talkshows.

Either way he needs to take his own medicine and resign for the sake of the party and the country and take his "we's" with him.

I agree with you, Rove has to go.

To tell you the truth, I don’t know what official position he holds other than advisor or head of a PAC. Do you know?

He's an analyst for Fox News and runs his own organization Crossroads GPS raising money for candidates for office.

Fox News should terminate him pronto and people who have given money to his PAC should ask for it back and give it directly to the candidates themselves.

Thanks for the info. I will join the call for his dismissal on the FOX website. His “joke” was outrageous and offensive.

I think the Republican party should sever whatever relationship it has with Rove. At least for the duration of this election.

We don’t give to PACs either, we just send to candidates we support. Only trouble with that is they share their mailing lists and you end up getting so many appeals for funds from other conservative candidates. One day we got 9 requests in the mail.

We still get Christmas cards from John Thune from when we supported him to defeat Tom Daschle. Haven’t send him any more money though!

I didn’t vote for Akin in the primary election but I’ll cast my vote for him in November if he chooses to stay in the race against McCaskill.

It angers me when the Republican Party has the audacity to interfere in the campaign of a candidate who was duly elected by Missouri citizens. Their attempts to control who Missourians elect to the Senate make them no better than the Obama regime that negates laws legislated by Congress.
