Another tells me, “They’ve gotten social conservatives comfortable with the platform and now that they’re placated [Team Romney] is going to undercut them with this change.”

It's not over!! Romney is trying to give us the go around

WTF is with the distractions at the start of the convention??? They couldn’t have ironed all this out months ago?

My delegation from VA is on to this and they are not going to compromise. They voted unaminously against the Ginsberg thing and will do the same again.

Red flags went up for me when they started declaring the fight over. The GOPe doesn’t just give up that easily unless they are surrendering to liberals.

These “grassroots activists” who caused this whole mess are Ron Paul supporters who lied about their allegiance in order to get delegate slots. They truly believe in a Ron Paul insurgency.

I agree that changing these rules would have long-term unintended consequences and would not be a good thing, but the original intent was to shut down an infiltration by dishonest people who are trying very hard to make trouble at the convention.

Over the years, the GOP-E has changed delegate selection so they could try for a more unanimous anointing. The Paulistinians took advantage of that this year and the GOP-E panicked and is over reacting. Now we have a situation with two “wrong” sides. What needs to happen is to have the states go back to the earlier process, where the candidates select their delegates and people vote for them, as happens in Tennessee (among others), not stifling what few modes of input people still have.

The RINO Romney WILL NOT ALLOW DISSENSION
to his RINO decrees, or discussion
of the fact that he is Democrat RINO who pushes
every single DNC agenda (and claims otherwise
even AFTER imposing them, himself).

This will be nothing less than
a coronation of the RINO Emperor, and his
Death Panels and RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE,
over the carcasses of the Tea Party and conservatives.

from the article:

“The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries. Grassroots conservatives point to both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as reasons to stop this rule. Had there been front loaded winner takes all primaries, neither the Gingrich nor the Santorum campaigns would have been able to get any traction.

“This is going to be a fight on the floor if they don’t back down. They have too much pride to back down and we’re going to humble them,” said one delegate to the convention.

Another tells me, “They’ve gotten social conservatives comfortable with the platform and now that they’re placated [Team Romney] is going to undercut them with this change.”

Speaking to one person familiar with the rules changes who supports them, I’m told a number of people support the changes because they see the current rules as efforts by Michael Steel to “liven up” the process, but all it did was run up the cost and drag it out. “Are we really going to keep the status quo because the guy who brought the convention to hurricane country in hurricane season thought they were a good idea?” the delegate asked.

The Rules Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa to consider the rules changes. If they make it through the committee, delegates are telling me they promise a huge floor fight and there’s no guarantee Team Romney will get its way given the current make up of the delegates in Tampa.***

So, they gave partially on the first issue, but didn’t get close to a compromise on the other 2.

Just like the Rino Media...report a compromise but have it be only a small piece of the truth

If 3/4 of the RBC agrees on a rules change, what more do you want? Why should a 25% minority hijack the whole system?

This is a preview of the danger that a liberal Republican President poses to the party and the conservative movement. The Democrat party can’t destroy the Republican party and the conservative movement - only the Republican party can do that.

I am a Conservative - not a Republican. Rule changes like this are just another in a long string of “We don't want conservatives” by the GOPe.

I will be voting 3rd party at the top of the ticket and conservative down ticket.

I am a firm believer that the GOP has lost it's way and is no longer the party that supports my views. I will therefore use my vote to further the cause of conservatives by influencing the major / minor party outcome in accordance with the laws of my state.

I will not only join but will support and work for a 3rd party that is a Conservative party.

Fear not folks. This will all be countered by ‘holding MRs feet to the fire”...

Sarcasm aside I welcome this. I hope he/they succeed. Because it will push more people into forming a viable 2nd party.

Of course the diehards will excuse this powergrab as usual.

There is really no difference in the heads of the Republicans than there are of those of the Dims. It is all about total control, total power, invested in them. To heck with the people. It is about them. Power. This is why there is really never going to be any real chance of this country ever getting back to the Constitution and state rights, and individual rights. It is all about total control to them all.

I’m troubled by this move. This is something that could be a harbringer of something not so good to come. Why would these rule changes come up now unless they expected trouble in 2016? It is like they are trying to put in place an insurance plan in the event Romney disappoints and is challenged in the future. If Romney is going to govern as a conservative and cut the size of government what are they worried about?

I don’t care about the winner take all change. It makes sense if you win, you win.

That’s the way our election system works...

The other one I don’t like though, but that will likely be defeated as well. Contrary to the idea that conservatives are being surprised here, I have seen multiple posts mentioning this. Folks are aware of it, and it won’t happen, so I see no reason to freak out.

Regardless of the Ron Paul, or the grassroots Conservative targeting of this move by Team Romney on behalf of Romney for the benefit of Romney, it is most certainly NOT of, by, or for the people.

As a child Grandpa taught my older brother, and myself to play chess. At home my brother, and I would agree to play the game, but my older brother would be disadvantaged at some point, and would all of a sudden start spouting rules I was unaware, and ultimately he would win. Grandpa confirmed to me later that those rules my older brother insisted were legitimate were in fact contrived for his benefit to win the game. Older brother pulled that stunt multiple times, and I finally refused to play the game anymore.

Willard is NOT my older brother, but my experience tells me there are similarities. I really like the fact my older brother lives in another State.

Prayers for this country.

Typically republican - Determined to alienate their conservative base and snatch drefeat from the jaws of victory.

I believe many at the top of the party would rather lose the presidential election than lose their own power and influence.

So, we want CLOSED PRIMARIES so that infiltrators cannot disrupt our primaries and pick our nominees.

But we want OPEN CONVENTIONS so any minority faction of 25% or so can disrupt the convention in prime time?

Voters Want Less Government. Will GOP Communicate to Them?

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | August 27th at 03:02 PM | 11

Amidst the torrent of polling data on an array of political races and policy issues, it is easy to lose focus on the central point of contention in today’s world of politics. The fundamental disagreement between the right and the left is over the proper role of government. The left feels that government should control virtually every aspect of our economy and our lives – from cradle to grave – while the right believes that government must focus on its core constitutional duties, and that it is, in fact, deleterious to our lives and prosperity when it traverses those constitutional confines.

In terms of the public’s views on this central point of contention, there is no ambiguity in the polling data. The latest Washington Post/ABC-News poll shows that registered voters support limited government with fewer services over larger government with more services by a whopping 56-38% margin. When asked in the recent Fox News survey whether they believe government should leave them alone or lend a helping hand, likely voters chose the limited government message by a 54-35% margin. Among Independent voters, the margin was 63-25%.

With such ubiquitous support for limited government, why is Obama leading on most policy issues, especially those issues like healthcare and energy where he has used the boot of government to spike the cost of vital services on average Americans? How is he neck-and-neck with Romney in national polls and ahead in many battleground state polls?
