At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. Ive been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.
Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsbergs effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominees campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.
That issue appears resolved, but several people Ive spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.
Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 oclock.
The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. Theyll be able to get Ben Ginsbergs proposal next year.
In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they dont have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. Theyll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.
The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

The Sovietization of the RNC and the Republican party is almost complete. And most of the assembled delegates went right along with it.
Disgusting.

Boehner completely ignored the delegates screaming right in front of him loud nays!!!!!!!
This is like one of those mock Stalin ‘show trials’....there is no real debate or real vote just the appearance of one so you are so right
Just getting in and trying to catch up on all of this coup crapola. Please ping me to your FR-ED on this, FRiend. Thanks.
Indeed. Bump!
So we must chose your brand of evil over their brand of evil? Seems silly when there is still good to vote for.
Either Goode or Johnson...
The Big Two Parties must die and go the way of the Leninist and the Whig. No compromise with evil.
“Boehner completely ignored the delegates screaming right in front of him loud nays!”
Many of these politicians are sociopaths and crooks. They don’t a rat’s rear about right&wrong, honesty, integrity, principles, honor, truth, morals etc. Most are attorneys, so brazenly lying without fear of consequences comes naturally to them; the end justifies the means every time.
Apologies to the honest attorneys in this forum.
And yes, even if that means Obama wins.
short term pain, long term gain.
I am going to steal that bit of Latin there and use it for a background on my PC - and my smartphone :)
I’m not convinced Mitt is behind this, why on earth would Mitt want to divide the republican party against itself at a time like this?
Does Mitt want to lose? Why did the guy who proposed and pushed this change even propose it? It goes against the very foundation of everything we have been fighting for for the last few years. Is he trying to completely destroy our party and chances of winning?
The “proof” was in my ears. The nays were louder (there was no role call), and he said the yeas have it and then there was a loud mass of voices yelling because he did that, and he ignored it and went on talking. It was so evident he knew he did wrong. He was going to give that to Romney no matter what.

It really doesn’t make a difference in the long run what the GOP rules are. This is something of a useless fight, one Mitt’s people should never have started for obvious reasons but useless nonetheless.
I honestly think Mitt has a lot of backstabbing traitors working for him, and that mitt is too willing to be led around on a stick by the democrat media.
I admit to being fooled on the Akins thing, Although I still maintain Akin’s should have resigned and spared us the controversy we could not afford to fight this year.
“Why did the guy who proposed and pushed this change even propose it?”
Because Romney sent his men in there to present and pass the new rule he wanted. The chairman of the rules committee was Romney’s buddy, Sanunu, plus a man from Romney’s Utah, plus one from Maryland, PLUS Romney’s lawyer. That’s why it was proposed.
It was Mitt own lawyer Ben Ginsberg pushing these changes, you can’t get any closer to Mitt other than Ann! So Mitt had to know and approve of it
I don’t believe Mitt is that stupid as to think this will do anything but hurt him big time precisely when he needs the party untied behind him.
I think the man who did this did it to hurt mitt.
This is about shutting down We The People, the Paultards are the excuse. Wise up.
You aren’t thinking. John Sonunu is Romney’s right hand man and he was chairman of the rules committee. The man from Utah was his man and the one from Maryland was his man and the lawyer in there to get it done is Romney’s lawyer.
Romney got two of the committee members from Florida taken out as committee members and two of Romeny’s people took their place to be sure Romney got those votes.
If you don’t understand this, you have a problem.
It’s the other way around, but it’s over now. No one is talking about except here on FreeRepublic. Heck, I woudn’t have even known about it if I wasn’t following FreeRepublic. I would have been better off staying awsy. There was nothing good happening here, today.
The convention moved on, the speeches were great and the Paultards will have to find some other way to take over the GOP.
Sure we can, it will be rigged, but we can still have it, right?
