Road Trip: United States Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Maryland

The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command is a major subordinate command of the Army Materiel Command, and is charged with "creating, integrating and delivering technology-enabled solutions to our Soldiers."

 With its headquarters at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, RDECOM scientists, engineers and researchers work at laboratories and research center across the nation and the globe. With more than 17,000 employees, RDECOM performs nearly all of the Army's basic and applied research and technology development.

The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command is the Army's technology leader and largest technology developer. RDECOM ensures the dominance of Army capabilities by creating, integrating and delivering technology-enabled solutions to our Soldiers.

To meet this commitment to the Army, RDECOM develops technologies in its eight major laboratories and research, development and engineering centers. It also integrates technologies developed in partnership with an extensive network of academic, industry, and international partners.

I don’t care at this point. Lake Travis is down about 40’ and less than 1/2 capacity. Lots of wells going dry too.

I spent all of my time in the old Cavalry barracks in the MI Brigade’s Combat Development Directorate on Christie Ave. My claim to fame was establishnig the Ground Based and Aerial Common Sensor programs’ operational requirements. Fifteen years later, they finally saw real-world use under different program names.

I now work for a defense contractor; we have our hand in some Intel Fusion systems development, sustainment, and training for CECOM’s Software Engineering Center. Their main offices are now at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, so it’s interesting to see APG come up as the subject of one of our Roat Trips!
