Mitt Romney is invoking his Massachusetts healthcare law in the lead-up to the Republican convention, alarming conservatives who argue its a losing issue for his campaign.
Romney's new willingness to talk about the issue could be a sign that he thinks the Massachusetts law could help him in November.
"My healthcare plan I put in place in my state has everyone insured," Romney told a CBS reporter on Thursday. In a second interview, he called the law an "important accomplishment" that is "working, by and large, pretty well."
[.....]
"I will be able to show that I have a passionate concern for people in this country," he told a debate audience in January.
Mackowiak wondered whether Romney's recent comments reflect a desire to appear more relatable to voters. Polls show that Obama leads Romney in likability.
"They're trying to show compassion," Mackowiak said of Romney's campaign.

That was ‘peel’ Obamacare ~ make a big noise doncha know. Listen closely to this guy ~ he’s tricky.
I’m still working that storm angle and there’s still some hope for a last minute reprieve from the Lord ~ but it’s a tight window.
Listen to his speeches. It's always "repeal and REPLACE." And then google his association with Pam Bondi, Florida's attorney general, regarding his healthcare plan. He wants her help implementing it state by state.
Duhhh -- that's why he wants to get rid of Akin.
(1) I was beating up on Akin for playing footsie with Democrats, and
(2) He, Romney was going to start playing footsie with Democrats again.
AND there he went and did it ~ played footsie with Democrats by talking about how great RombamaKKKare in Massachusetts is.
Hate to say it I"m usually two or three steps ahead of this guys advisors.
I've defended this guy for pragmatic reasons and I'll vote for him. But, man, sometimes he looks brilliant and other times -- like this one -- he acts like a dope.
Sigh.
</sarcasm>
Romneycare == A dead raccoon under the porch.
It is almost like there is some sort of plan........naw couldnt be. Right? That would be crazy tinfoil hat stuff.
Of course. He made these comments right after the "Akin Effect" knocked him down 7 points in MO.
This is to be expected. Willard has come out time and time again saying he would sign an order his first day in office repealing ObamaCare.
The truth of the matter is this: During the GOP debates
the AG of Florida, Pam Bondi, who was Romney’s Florida
campaign manager, made the talk show circuit telling the world how much better RomneyCare was than ObamaCare. She all but said that ObamaCare would be replaced by RomneyCare.
Anyone that does not believe this can go back look at some of her interviews, especially on Fox News. Romney has no intention of doing away with socialized medicine. Not in the least.
And the minute Romney is sworn-in, you can just about bet
Pat Bondi will be the new Attorney General.
People not listening and not being smart is what got us in this situation in the first place! Even during the last election!
We are soooooo complacent! We have to wake up or lose everything!
Every...thing....!!!
“We have to wake up or lose everything! Every...thing....!!!”
That’s why I am a prepper - it can’t be fixed but I can be ready for the collapse. PREPARE
Probably smart.
I am in Texas...and hope she secedes if worst comes to worst!
>>I dont think hes quite got this new conservative thing down yet.
Rutro! Evidently somebody didn’t deliver the “Don’t fart out of the left facial orifice until February” memo.
Fortunately for Myth it won’t cost him the support of his Democratic base.
It's so colossally stupid, I've begun to suspect some sort of attempted manipulation of the conservative base. If I hear anything remotely resembling a peanut gallery starting up about supporting Romney like they supported Akin, it'll become more than suspicion. What would establishment insiders have to lose, they hated all three candidates in that race, floated blast-from-the-past Danforth as recently as March to replace any one of them, Akin, Steelman or Brunner.
Heads We win, tails you lose. Either getting rid of a social conservative thorn in their sides or manipulating the conservative base into something more than lukewarm suspicion regarding Mitt Romney. Who, by the way, uncharacteristically jumped into the fray very early and who made some intemperate remarks.
Well, I don’t see a conspiracy here, but I see your point. I also find it interesting that a guy whose primary campaign was financially supported by Claire McCaskill gains such ardent support here at FR. Whatever her reasons, shouldn’t that make him a bit suspect as a candidate?
Having said that, I agree it was quite overblown. I enjoy debating it here, but this is just our little corner of the internet.
As for the party, they’ve had their say, and now they ought to shut up. He said he’s staying in, and there is nothing to gain by trying to force him out. The Democrats appear to be gearing up to massively overplay their hand, lining up pro-abortion speakers to headline their convention. That won’t help them. Abortion doesn’t win votes.
But wait!
Just yesterday, a FReeper said Romney had “evolved” on his positions while others have told me he changed.
Bullshiite. He is a valueless shapeshifter who wants to be POTUS.
He will accomplish the decline of America in slow motion with the help of RINOs in Congress.
“For me, when he gets his nod in Tampa, it will be one of the worse days of my life. I thought I was ill when Clinton won.
Me too. I will also be ill for my country when we nominate RINOmney, who supported all the Tea Party opposed. It is truly Bizzaro World.
