(Reuters) Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that establishment Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.
A backlash has set in here in Akins suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.

I PREDICTED that the Left would spin Akin's words this way right here in FR the same day he said them, before anyone else apparently realized this. That was problem #1 with what he said. Akin may have thought he was being cute by implying such a thing without actually saying so (giving him credit for more brains than he may actually have), but it turns out than, in reality, it was very, very stupid of him to have said such a thing. That's what I posted, and that is how it has turned out.
Somewhat greater than the odds of getting pregnant from being raped.
Don't answer - it doesn't matter.
"Anderson, it doesn't matter anyway you slice it. "
He actually apologized for the wrong part of his statement.
Akin should have known he was getting into something he couldn’t explain, “from what I understand from doctors, its really rare”.
That’s a prediction on probability no one could know the answer to. Not your link, not his doctors, and certainly not Akin.
I now better understand why it is so offensive on top of the point of Akin having a ‘Mr Know-it-all’ issue. Thanks for the help.
> LOOK IT UP. It’s about 5%.
The study you’re referring to is the 1996 report.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8765248
5% is NOT rare when you consider that there are other studies which tag the pregnancy rate for a single instance of consensual sex at around 2-4%.
http://www.springerlink.com/content/wp5cnp43k6byxj4d/
> AND part of that 5% is due to women who LIED about being raped and got away with it.
Yeah? where’s your source for that one? And even if half the rapes were misreported, the rate of pregnancy is comparable with rates from consensual sex.
Human women don’t have duck vaginas.
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11764-female-ducks-fight-back-against-raping-males.html
There is ZERO credible evidence to claim that there’s anything about the female anatomy to suggest that it can “shut down” pregnancy in response to rape.
Unless you would like to point to one?
Why am I so pissed off? Because I have a dear friend who was brutally raped at age 14, bore a child she gave up for adoption, and she’s spent a lifetime overcoming corrosive and ignorant BLAME aimed at her from JERKS like Akin and the quack Wilke.
If your goal is to ensure that the innocent child created through rape isn’t destroyed, GUESS WHAT, you DON’T deny the reality of the victim by claiming that she “really wanted it” because she got pregnant. Got it?
That’s not what is being said.
We need a Logic 101 class around here.
I don't know Akin, and would never have heard of him had it not been for this controversy. I am debating his use of the words LEGITIMATE RAPE and the fact that women who get pregnant after consensual sex HAVE and DO cry rape. I also agree that pregnancies from violent, forced rape are much lower than pregnancies from 'casual sex'. Statistics seem to support that. I have provided sources throughout this thread.
Of course, we live in a nation that rejects a VP candidate because they BELIEVE that POTATOE is not a word.
Potato, potatoe.
Theater, theatre.
Color, colour.
Reminds me of a comment of mine the other day...@#330
I keep saying this "media firestorm" has all been contrived and it's being turned around on those who started it, i.e. liberals who thought they had "a winner" with his comments.
People are such docile beasts these days they no longer have the ability to even recognize when they're being led around by their nose rings.
And such an ignorant and gullible voting public.
I know.
"Thats the problem."
How so?
"It was an easy, obvious, common, predictable question that he was too dumb to handle."
Really? He was too dumb to handle it? I don't see it that way. I think he answered it perfectly. He made it clear that rape, in his mind and the minds of tens of millions of other Americans, is NO LONGER going to be accepted as an excuse to murder children. He was making it clear that that red herring wasn't going to fly. He also made it clear that pregnancy caused by rape is extremely rare (less than 1% of all rapes result in pregnancy) and he made it clear that not all rapes are the variety associated with violence and no consent. Many rapes are statutory in nature and charges are brought by pissed off parents because their daughters decided to have sex with their boyfriends. Calling Akin dumb because you are ignorant is a bit of a stretch don't ya think? Or are you simply shilling for the GOP establishment? Run Akin off because your most favored candidate couldn't cut the mustard and convince the Conservatives of Missouri to vote for your guy?
Shame on you.
"Maybe he was just having a bad day, but theres no way to spin it as anything other than stupid. Even he has admitted that."
He admitted that he could have said the same thing differently. Sometimes educated people in the Republican Party forget that most of RINOs, like their lib-tard friends in the demoncrap party, are uneducated and ignorant. He apologized for not taking into account that some RINOs wouldn't understand what he was saying. He never said that he was wrong about what he said. Well... I will take that back. He did back off a bit because some lesser educated in the party couldn't wrap their minds around the fact that pregnancies caused by any rape other than statutory rape is extremely rare. All the anti-Akin crowd could hear was 'women do not ever get pregnant from being raped.' He never said that.
"I certainly hope he does better than that in future interviews and debates, but based on this performance, lets just say expectations have been lowered."
I agree. He really needs to take into account how successful the liberal run public school system has been in dumbing down his constituents. He has got to realize that there are some really stupid people in our party and he needs to stop giving them as much credit as he has. It's what obama does with the dips**** in his party. ;-)
It seems to me that this has to end NOW -- not a month from NOW.
Thank you , my dear.
> It was not Akin who said that if you get pregnant from rape its because you WANTED it.
What are we supposed to conclude if a guy says that pregnancy from rape is rare because the woman’s body shuts down pregnancy if the rape is [”real”, “legitimate”, “rape-rape”]. This, and the crap science that Wilke is pumping out, is suggesting that if a woman gets pregnant from rape, either
1) Her sperm-ejecting lady parts are defective, or
2) It’s not “real” rape, she’s just LYING.
Treating rape victims as defective or liars is the quickest way to lose her heart to the pro-abortionists! Don’t you get it??
They can always create a war on women just by lying and twisting words - IF WE LET THEM. And that’s what this is about. Appeasement doesn’t work. If we let them twist these words they will twist EVERYTHING, knowing we will eat our own if they only use their bully pulpit to make us feel scared.
What Akin said was not politically smart. It was not a vicious attack on women. It is the dems who have a war against women - they who cover up statutory rape by giving young girls abortions, they who act as if a woman becoming a perpetrator is somehow an answer to having been a victim, they whose policies have left a whole culture of women without any fathers for their babies because the papas know they can screw whenever and wherever with no personal consequences...
We can’t shrink from these people. That’s the only way they win, and it emboldens them to even more blatant lies. It’s just like the war on terror. Appeasement doesn’t work. As much as we want this cup to pass so we don’t have to drink from it, if we let this one go there will be a million more just like it right behind this one. If instead we take the offensive and show them that this plan will NOT work - will NOT divide and incapacitate us - they will have to slither away and look for a different opportunity.
You contradict yourself, my dear.
Do all 11 POTENT ethnic groups live in the arctic/subarctic ?
You are confusing the example analysis with Akin. Both lower paragraphs with the word ‘guy’ are not in reference to Akin.
“If you want to win a war which Romney/Ryan are looking to do you need disciplined troops willing to take one for the team.”
What you need to win a war is to keep your eye on the BIG picture and not play petty politics by belittling your troops in front of the world, as R’Omni did to Akin. Big mistake.
I am reminded of Obama sucking up to the Taliban when our military had to destroy a few Qur’ans. But, I digress...
Look, it is precisely because the DemonRats don’t have anything of substance to run on that they’re going to distract, distract, distract. Since Akin’s comments lent themselves to the manufactured “War on Women” chimera, the Left pounced on them. No surprise there.
Funny thing is, the Right ran with it, hook, line, and sinker. Going so far as to obsequiously take up the fight for the Left in calling for Akin’s removal.
You guys may not be aware of it, but I am: The Left is just sitting back and laughing at us all while they watch us fighting amongst yourselves over nothing but a contrived phantom of their own forging.
Those of you caught up in all of this have lost sight of the BIG picture:
Obama and EVERY one of his communist buddies in Washington D.C. MUST go! — That includes Claire McCaskill!
McCaskill is a baby killer; Akin thinks abortions are an abomination and a plague upon our society.
That’s the bottom line in all of this Akin shakin’.
So, do AMERICA a favor: STOP carrying the fata Morgana water for the Left, my fellow Freepers!
Cheers
Why should we care about this? Because it is a given that the Left will always put the construction on such statements that is most to the disadvantage of Conservatives. And this one went viral nationwide virtually instantaneously, which is why Republicans were forced to publicly distance themselves from it.
I'm not a politician, but if I were, I would carefully weigh anything I said in public with that in mind. Akin obviously didn't, in this case, and now he is facing a potentially career ending consequence for that mistake.
ALL ~ you imagined, perhaps, that potency had something to do with frequency? That characteristic seems to have something to do with sperm!
Your words evoke an image in my mind that can be conceptualized in just two simple words...
Party hack!
Those who go against The Party "Need Not Apply" and if you do go against The Party and win we'll fix your little red wagon when you get into office.
Yeah, threats like yours will really help get the actual type of people America needs to run for office. /sarcasm
