Missouri conservatives rally to Akin, blast Republican “establishment”
Reuters ^ | August 24, 2012 | Nick Carey

(Reuters) – Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that “establishment” Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.

A backlash has set in here in Akin’s suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.

I take your word on Jaco....so why did Akin decide to grant him an interview? Does his campaign not know what to expect? That alone shows very poor judgement from his campaign manager(s), IMO.

The Akin campaign is very insulated and very capable of poor judgment politically. Yes, Charles Jaco is one of the worst extreme liberals in the St. Louis media and has been for years. But in this interview, all Jaco had to do was hand Akin the rope. Akin did the rest on his own.

Uh, so you’re for giving a communist her seat back in the Senate for six freakin’ long years just to prove a point?

Furthermore, you do realize that taking back the Senate is far from a done deal, right? If you give up on dethroning McCaskill, you are playing right into the DemonRats’ hands and putting America at risk, yet again!

Good luck with that strategy!

You might as well vote for Obama, too, while you’re at it. After all, R’Omni is buddies with the same doctor (Dr. Jack C. Willke) who gave Todd Akin that “legitimate rape & reproductive system shutdown” talking point.

No disrespect intended, but God help us all if we fought wars the way you wish to fight this one for America.

Cheers

The conservatives THINK their present enemy is Obama. While Obama certainly needs to be beaten, there will be no systemic change in American politics until the cowardly establishment GOP is beaten to a pulp.

If Obama wins this year and Missouri senator race is lost to the GOP, that of course would be unfortunate. But the real and immediate enemy is the political culture in the Republican party that sneered at the Tea Party, were petrified by outspokenness of Santorum or Cain, won’t let Ron Paul speak at the convention, and now join the feminazis in piling on Akin.

What the GOP of GHW Bush, Olympia Snowe, Robert Dole, John McCain got us? What will the GOP of Romney give us? Clinton Lite, Obama Lite? Go to hell.

When the GOP establishment learns that they cannot win by keeping conservatives off their tickets, they will begin to win elections across the board and then we shall change the face of America. Not before.

"he was asked a very simple question and he couldn't figure out how to either answer it, or to artfully not answer it."

He answered it perfectly. He was making the point that using rape as an excuse to murder a child doesn't fly. It doesn't matter if 100% of the raped women in this country get pregnant or just one woman gets pregnant. It's not the child's fault and the child should not be given the death sentence for a crime he/she did not commit. Secondly Akin's answer has nothing to do with the problems facing America; Obama does.

People need to grow up and stay focused or this country is screwed. GOT IT?

Let me just say this first. I’m pro-life. But Akin’s remarks were beyond asinine and insulting, especially to the thousands of women who get pregnant from rapes each year.

My best friend in high school was raped (yes, “legitimately”) and gave birth to a beautiful little girl who was given up through adoption. She went some through some awful times, went through years of therapy, and managed to graduate college and marry a wonderful man. They adopted two children, and while she still has rough moments, feels herself to be very lucky and blessed by God.

Last night she and I had a long phone call (like the ones we had in our 20s) after her Facebook status sounded awful and I called her up. This Akin business is bringing up all those old horrible feelings again. I’m mad as hell at Akin and those ridiculous doctors who claim that pregnancy from rape is rare, implying that those who DID get pregnant had a high chance of actually WANTING it!! Sickening!

The conservatives who are teaming up with Akin better think long and hard about alienating women, not just lib women but good pro-life women like me who are insulted by the complete disregard for rape victims which I am seeing.

To Akin and your ham-handed “buddies” — YOU ARE NOT HELPING. Shut UP.

Because prior to September 25, I think our best shot at winning is for Akin to withdraw, the sooner the better. After September 25, when there’s no alternative, then it’s got to be Akin, obviously.

my response was to what Socons have been known to do ~ not to Missourians in particular.

Most elections in this country (except where you have some extreme gerrymandering) are resolved in terms of which party gets out the most voters. The Republicans have little to offer this time except they are also extremely leftwing but they're not Obama.

These are the conditions when Socons just don't vote for them anyway.

O’Donnell lost because Rove and his types acted actively against her.

I have nothing but contempt for their actions.

If you want to win a war which Romney/Ryan are looking to do you need disciplined troops willing to take one for the team.

Akin is an undisciplined blabbermouth and instead of stepping down he showed he was just another political hack looking out for himself. We got guy’s on the battlefields of Afghanistan who are willing to take a real bullet for the welfare of this country and this dirtbag won’t even retire with dignity. He’s the poster boy for term limits.
I hope he does win and he gets a bathroom stall for an office.

Your argument is invalid because your position depends on using pregnancy as a litmus test as to whether rape actually occurred. Problem is, there is often corroborating evidence that points to a sexual assault in these instances.

In such a case, you apparently would have predetermined that it wasn't a rape after all. That'll never sell to the non-Taliban crowd.

I got it. You won't support anyone until the establishment republicans tells you to unless you have no other choice. You don't believe in what Akin stands for but you hate the other guy more.

Does that about sum it up?

The GOP-e will NEVER support a Conservative in a situation like this.

Or if there is proveable fraud, such as the Bob Dornan case in the last century.

They would rather a democrat win a seat instead of a Conservative.

They are loving this, if Akin loses they will be happy even if it ruins their chance to rule the Senate.

Many states don't have a sore-loser law. That's one of the reasons someone might not know about them.

Combining a sore-loser law with open primaries is going to serve up an idiot on a regular basis. Probably explains what's wrong with Missouri's Democrat politicians as well.

I'd encourage you to fix the problem

The way I see it, if Al Franken can be a Seantor, why not Akin?

Of course I am stuck with Murray and Cantwell. Bah humbug!

Thank you for providing those links. I have honored that by ensuring I read both.

In the FIRST, Akin remarks are: “He went on to add that “there is no rape” that is legitimate, and that it’s a “heinous crime”.

THIS IS THE KEY to the whole controversy. Every one with a smitten of intelligence knows exactly what he meant by the words LEGITIMATE RAPE. The REST of the public apparently wants to CLAIM that the word LEGITIMATE , as used, implied that RAPE WAS OK. That is what he is apologizing for , and I concede your argument that he ‘apologized’, albeit only for the public’s ignorance.

On to the second ‘source article’, it would seem that most of the opinions on that thread agree with the lower fertility rate during rape.

The FACTS back that up. Again, here is one source, among many, that show the same thing. Take the time to read it, if you will.

Facts of Life: Chapter 3: Exceptions for Abortion: The Rarity of Pregnancies Resulting from Rape and Incest
http://www.hli.org/index.php/cloning/266?task=view

” about 0.8 percent of all women who are raped actually become pregnant as a result of the act.”

You are 100% right that his answer “has nothing to do with the problems facing America.” That’s the problem.

It was an easy, obvious, common, predictable question that he was too dumb to handle.

Maybe he was just having a bad day, but there’s no way to spin it as anything other than stupid. Even he has admitted that.

I certainly hope he does better than that in future interviews and debates, but based on this performance, let’s just say expectations have been lowered.

> This whole issue is about the use of the word LEGITIMATE, because it implies women would LIE. THAT, is the unspoken reality of this. THAT WORD is what is being objected to. Not whether women who are raped can or cannot get pregnant, but on WHETHER WOMEN LIE to COVER UP the reason for a PREGNANCY, and whether they would CRY RAPE so that they can get the government(meaning YOU and ME) to pay for their ABORTION.

hey pal! the word “legitimate” isn’t the half of it. Akin claimed that pregnancies from — I don’t care what you call it, “legitimate rape”, “real rape”, “forcible rape”, “rape rape” was REALLY RARE, claiming some GodAwful fact-free quacks had determined that female bodies had ways to “shut it down”. This is IDIOCY, and extremely insulting to rape victims.
