(Reuters) Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that establishment Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.
A backlash has set in here in Akins suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.

I will support Todd Akin’s decision if he choses to step down.
But it is his decision to make. Walking away after devoting two years to this campaign because of misspoken words is not an option for the stout hearted. Why are the Republicans so quick to shoot their injured instead of treating the wound?

That is a misrepresentation of what he claimed. You’re buying the media kool-aid.
He was talking about the body’s flight-or-fight chemistry potentially impacting fertility in instances of violent rape.
The accuracy of what these doctors told him can be debated but to even have an honest discussion we have to throw out all the crap the media is saying and actually address what he was really talking about.
Sheesh.
Sorry I guess even Sarah is not 100% enough for ya,maybe you can burn her at the stake....
The fact that he couldn’t accurately repeat or source exactly what he said is his problem.
Allow me a similar example, guy says Bush changed the bank law so banks could have less then 25% in reserve. At that point, I didn’t know it was probably the Securities Exchange Commission in 2004 that changed the amount of reserve that Investment banks could have that he was talking about, so I couldn’t correct or counter the misinformation this individual has believed and/or was spouting. The point being, he thought and talked as if he was an authority on the subject.
Same logic, only in this example I bet he’s wrong and either is misinformed or has an agenda. Can I accept the next thing this guy says as fact? No.
How telling --

This 'incredible potency' (or 'extreme fertility') that you refer to... does it have anything to do with a higher occurrence of 'having unprotected sex' (or rape) ?
Is it possible that among women (no matter what ethnic origin) some are more fertile than others ?
Perhaps those women who are more INCREDIBLY POTENT should avoid having casual and unprotected sex, with multiple partners on a daily basis.
How many of these INCREDIBLY POTENT ethnic women get raped (legitimate rape) ?
You really think 5% counts as "rare?" What do you think are the odds of getting pregnant from a single act of consensual intercourse?
Don't answer - it doesn't matter. The real problem with Akin's stupid answer is not that he was wrong (which he was,) but that he was asked a very simple question and he couldn't figure out how to either answer it, or to artfully not answer it. It wasn't a hard question, it wasn't a "gotcha." It was a standard, predictable, run-of-the-mill question that is asked of every pro-life candidate everywhere.
If a veteran politician is that dumb, his campaign prospects seem pretty bleak, even against a clown like McCaskill. If he manages to pull out a win, it will be solely due to her negatives.
And this year, of all years, I hate having so much hanging on such a thin thread.
I'd say it's worth quite a lot!
I take your word on Jaco....so why did Akin decide to grant him an interview? Does his campaign not know what to expect? That alone shows very poor judgement from his campaign manager(s), IMO.
That’s an interesting perspective, and it makes a lot of sense. I am concerned about the possibility of depressed turnout, but since Akin does not appear to be dropping out, best for all to stop complaining about it and just change the subject to McCaskill’s incompetence. Certainly there is nothing to be gained by defending that interview...
BECAUSE... the public doesn't understand the words LEGITIMATE RAPE ?
Ha Romney chewed up Newt and spit him out....now the Repubs are right to do it to Akin. Make an example out of him. Make sure no other Repubs even think stupid much less talk it.
Akin won’t mind he’s on a mission from God ..Right?
WWWTT: Wow... Way to take a stand. I hope the wind is blowing in the correct direction when you finally do.
And people wonder why Conservatives have such a hard time winning elections???
I hope Akin is thoroughly happy with what he's done to his campaign and the GOP. Having made this terrible blunder, Akin ought to think about his Party and consider stepping down. If he doesn't step down, I would still prefer that he win, but he IS a moron, and I have huge doubts about his pulling it off considering his mental limitations and toxicity to the Republican Party. Most likely, Akin will catch a couple months of pure hell from McCaskill's campaign, get beaten at the election, and his supporters will be left wondering how they effed up.
Only if people keep repeating the “magical womb” crap that I’m hearing on this thread. Akin was talking about fight-or-flight chemistry and its effects on the body. Can adrenaline suppress ovulation? You tell me. Can it prevent the production of the mucus necessary to sustain sperm motility? You tell me. Can it prevent the contractions of the uterine lining which help propel sperm to the fallopian tube? Again, you tell me. Pregnancy is an EXTREMELY complicated endeavor, and brain and body chemistry is very involved and complex.
Akin was saying that pregnancy resulting from violent rape is very rare - and possibly even moreso because of the body’s response to physical trauma. What did he say that was wrong?
What was wrong was the way the media presented what he said.
Just a reminder: Sarah Palin never said she could see Russia from her door. Sadly, people probably voted against her because they DIDN’T EVEN KNOW that Tina Fey made that all up. If we keep repeating the lie about what Akin said, the same thing will happen. But it won’t be the moron Akin who is most responsible for that; it will be those who repeated the lie as if it was truth.
Regarding ACOG - I think that’s the same group that denies the abortion-breast cancer link, even though at least one study in Australia found a higher correlation between first-trimester abortion and breast cancer than between family history of breast cancer and breast cancer. The results of that study were suppressed because they were too politically inconvenient. The abortion-breast cancer link is another manmade global warming type deal, where politics trumps science - a fact mentioned by even pro-choice researchers who have been vilified because their research shows an abortion-breast cancer link.
So those who don’t know their stuff and talk about “magical womb” are mostly dummies who don’t know enough about the subject to be able to say what the research does or doesn’t support. And those who do know the research have already shown an affinity to lie for the sake of the abortion agenda. And yes, people should be made aware of these facts. If the Akin bruhaha can open up this discussion it will be well worth the initial discomfort with his comments.
Folks tend to be rather overdressed there anyway.
Bet you were thinking of something else eh!
“Jaco has repeatedly called us Tea Partiers, Tea Baggers!
I’ll attest to that.
Jaco is a left wing goon. I remember when he was fired a few years ago from a St Louis radio station, in part, for emailing a reply to a listener who complained about his coverage of a Republican candidate. Told her to “P-ss off, you miserable piece of cr-p” Classy, huh?
