E-MAIL SHARE FONT-SIZE 8/23/2012 8:37 AM ET (RTTNews) - First-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly showed a modest increase in the week ended August 18th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Thursday.
The report showed that initial jobless claims edged up to 372,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 368,000. The modest increase came as a surprise to economists, who had expected jobless claims to slip to 365,000 from the 366,000 originally reported for the previous week.
Additionally, the Labor Department said the less volatile four-week moving average crept up to 368,000 from the previous week's revised average of 364,250.

Open ended QE is coming.
There’s that word again. I do not think it means what they think it means.
Have no fear, the Obama administration has ways to shut a legitimate bad jobs report down.
FU Big Media, and the god Hussein you worship — FU!!!!
unexpected !
everyone drink!!!
just imagine is we had a fair non biased media.
Obama would have got beaten by Clinton for a start .
Today obama’s numbers would be in the teens or low 20’s if ghe media actually did their job and actually reported the facts and called out the white house..
The corruption, the lies and the real numbers are never reported and the white house press corp are a joke, it;s a love fest
Yes devaluing currency, qe3, would tend to relatively reduce our debt. In theory, it seems to work, but in practice I wonder if it holds. Instead of debt/gdp should we maybe start debt/gdp+qe?
The real enemy is our media, I watched a white house press briefing this week and not once did the media actually ever call Carney out in his lies or even asked a tough question.
Mr President you called for transparency and yet you have sealed records, covered up fast and furious, why is that?
Or
You called Bush unpatriotic for this debt but you have put this country into more debt than all past presidents combined so do you now class yourself as unpatriotic?
The debates will be another love fest for the bozo. too and the GOP will never say a frigging word and call these people out for their bias just like they never call out the homostapo.
strange hey how the media have not got all utraged over gas prices, I presume as I don’t watchthe left wing crap but the today, show Good morning America, the view etc and local channels have not reported any of this either
-——but in practice I wonder if it holds-—
Well, we just don’t know. The reaction to all the money of the qe’s is still working through the system and is not fully realized.
The next president must deal with the setup. Obama has known for a long time he bit off more than he can chew and very likely dreads the prospect of more failure. He reacts by pleasing his base by giving them the money being redistributed.
Maybe the Obama people are jigging the numbers UP so they can show a drop before the election.
I can’t wait to see what the revision of the revision, of the revision, of these numbers are...
Should be TOTALLY UNEXPECTED!
BFD - haven’t you heard what that guy Akin - from MO - said??
/s (is it really needed?)
They’ll be helped by Holiday/Christmas hiring starting in the fall. They can also play games with the discouraged workers/drop outs and make the UE number look better.
I’ve not one single solitary doubt that they will do that.
In a four sentence excerpt:
“First time claims...showed a MODEST increase...”
“...initial jobless claims EDGED UP...”
“The MODEST increase...”
“four-week moving average CREPT UP...”
unexpectedly
again??
This is what the election is going to come down to, not what Akin said, or this BS “War on Women” nonsense..people can’t find work, unemployment is rising, and Obama’s policies are at fault..that is why Obama is talking about garbage that doesn’t matter, because he is trying to deflect focus from his epic failure at being President
Granted, it could be clearer, but for a change the LSM DOES mention the adjustment (emphasis added). You just need to READ it.
"The report showed that initial jobless claims edged up to 372,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 368,000. The modest increase came as a surprise to economists, who had expected jobless claims to slip to 365,000 from the 366,000 originally reported for the previous week ."
Not disputing your point, however, that the LSM is up Obama's backside.
