Democratic leaders in Minnesota are demanding a state lawmaker withdraw from his re-election bid after police claim he admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old boy at a rest stop.
While Rep. Kerry Gauthier, 56, will lose support from fellow Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party members if he continues with his campaign, party leaders stopped short Monday of asking him to immediately resign.
The first-term legislator wasn’t charged in the alleged July 22 encounter because the legal age of consent in Minnesota is 16 and no money was exchanged, according to the St. Louis County attorney’s office. Police say the two had oral sex behind a rest stop pavilion in Duluth after the teen responded to Gauthier’s Craigslist ad looking for a “no strings attached” sex.
Police reports made public last week say Gauthier came clean about the rest stop rendezvous.

Haven’t heard a peep about this in the press(I know, stunned, stunned I tell ya..NOT!) meanwhile its wall to wall coverage on Akin who “Said” something stupid..meanwhile you have this guy who had sex with a child yet not a peep from the media. Akin didnt commit a crime, he said a stupid stupid thing, but this guy, this guy actually committed a crime, yet no one says anything about it. Maybe now would be a good time for the GOP to tell everyone in the media “Hey if your going to associate Akin with Romney-Ryan, than we will associate ALL Dems with this sex crazed pervert who gives head to children.”
Somewhere Bob Beckel is thinking “Awwww man lucky guy, he didn’t have to pay for it, meanwhile I had to write a check for the chick I laid.”
The teenager was legal age in the state and responded to a public ad so that's no basis for criminal charges.
The public acts were, at most, a misdemeanor under MN law.
You might not like the law, but it was what it was and the prosecutor decided it wasn't worth wasting resources on minor charges particularly in light of the "exposure" the state lawmaker would get anyway.

For a Democrat it’s a career enhancer.
And now you know why. Because the Democrats can think 2 chess moves ahead. By asking Akin to resign, Romney now looks like a feckless, powerless nobody in front of the nation because Akin refused. Not very presidential. You don't ask a question like that unless you know the answer in advance.
