Anyone who does the above should be in prison for a very, very long time. Shame on Akin. Thank goodness women's groups are coming forward to condemn him.

You know what our problem is? We do JUST what the Rats do. We don’t address our own issues, we point at them and say, “they did it too” or “they were worse”.

Aikin must go, I don’t care what ANYONE else did.

If Akin does not go, is anyone looking to launch a conservative as an alternative? If the national senatorial campaign shuts off he money, and the super pacs stop their support, they could shift funds to a credible independent that has a chance.

Three months to go, cut him loose. Pay him off, make him go away. Sorry Mizzou, this is bigger than you. Claire is TOAST against anyone other than a man who cannot finesse a basic question about rape and abortion.

#10 he voted to let babies that survived an abortion to die on a slab; voting for a state bill disallowing medical assistance.

1) It doesn’t matter what any Dem did. Akin did wrong, and is stupid. GOP’ers actually police their own, demanding accountability. Dems simply try to avoid all consequences of violating laws or ethics. If it can be got past the voters it is OK. For them it is always “what he/she had in her heart” rather than what he/she actually did or said. The end always, always, always, always justifies the means in the Dem playbook.

2) Akin’s only shot at any historical significance is to become a footnote in future encyclopedia articles on Barack Obama, the import of which would be why BO was elected to a 2nd term. Is that what he really wants? Because that is his only possibility in continuing as the GOP candidate.

3) Akin could demonstrate real wisdom, selflessness, and love of country by getting out gracefully.

4) Given the stupidity already demonstrated, Akin will probably go ahead into the general election, do a Christine O’Donell/Sharon Angle vis-a-vis the state of Missouri and, at the same time, damage the national ticket.

Admittedly, its a meaningless and minor gaffe. But it is entirely of his own making and fatal to the Missouri Senate seat. So, he must go.

I stand corrected.

The reason Akin must go is because McCaskill spent 2-million dollars on ads dog-whistling the Democrats to cross over and vote for him in the Republican primary.

Why would we want McCaskill's chosen opponent as our nominee, especially now that he has demonstrated why she wants him?

There are 3 points of importance in Akin's statement.

First, legitimate rape. This is a term that he used to distinguish real rape from statutory rape and fake rape. He's correct on this, and I wouldn't ask him to withdraw solely over this.

Second, rarity of pregnancy from rape. The only data available put the number at 5%, which one can argue support his claim. Here, it's a bit more shaky than the first point, but I might still not call for his withdrawal if the problem is this point alone.

The third one is his assessment that woman's body somehow has a built-in mechanism that prevents pregnancy from rape. This is wrong, as the fact that he recognizes the while rare, pregnancy is not impossible. So, his body mechanism argument just doesn't fly and had we allowed this argument, it follows that the women who got pregnant were not legitimately raped. Taken together with the other two points above, his statement is very difficult to defend. I cannot imagine he can do anything positive in the debate where rape is the main issue.

Beyond the three points above, there is political reality. As a Republican candidate, he unnecessarily dragged the whole election to talk about rape, instead of the economy. Rape is deeply personal and emotional issues, and unlike abortion, the women are the victims here. As such, any mistake like the third point above would be explosive, and it is already. His mistake will affect not only his own race but also the other conservatives in their own races.

Wow. Panties in a wad over a minor, semantic issue. I thought we took time to understand facts and truth? Throwing Akin under the bus out of fear for word games played by liberals? Screw that. I hope Akin stands strong and wins. If I were him I'd double down and throw it back in the libs faces big time, as well as the spineless twits who fear what libs think and say.

We should be dedicated to the principle that human life at all stages - particularly at its most vulnerable - is worthy of protection and due process. Akin believes and iterates as much. Abortion is morally reprehensible under all circumstances. I would not expect Mitt Romney and assorted RINOs to agree. Power is better than life for some, but in the end we'll see who gets the "last laugh," as it were.

Sadly I fear that once again good well meaning people have been caught in the same old trap. An ill advised statement is blown up out of all proportions. Anderson Cooper sounded like he was having an orgasm this evening as he sallied forth.

The cunning and devious liberal press have seemingly scored again. Up in Canada, the television's man in Washington chortled with his information. He gloated over the apparent hit on Governor Romney's campaign. Then they threw in something about a Pubbie swimming naked in the Sea of Galilee. Shouting home their boy, though not having a vote. Few seem to step back and actually define what this gentleman Akin, actually said.

I seem to remember one of the greatest things about America is the First Amendment to the Constitution. I feel a donation coming on to Free Republic, for otherwise I would not have little input. At least there is no lock step on Free Republic. We can agree to disagree.

Oh, remembering your piece on the tube station bombing in my native country. Liked it.

one night he was drunk and partying with young women; he drove off a bridge, ran away like a coward, did not get help for 8 hours, and let the young woman die in an air pocket in 6 feet of water

You need to ease up on the fat boy ... I mean, hell, did you ever try to dress a nude woman underwater?

Also, give the guy credit. Did you know he's been sober for two whole years now ... and counting?

It’s the double standard. It’s ALWAYS the double standard.

If he were a ‘rat, he would be celebrated for being honest, and for caring about an obscure something or another.

Just look at Biden, for goodness sakes!

However, he said a very stupid thing during a very important election campaign season.

Do I think he should be crucified? NO!

Do I think he should put the country before his aspirations? YES.
