Akin Tries To Explain “Legitimate Rape” Comment, Speak With KMOX’s Charlie Brennan (9:20 Central)
KMOX ^ | August 19, 2012

Posted on 08/20/2012 7:07:41 AM PDT by Second Amendment First

Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, a conservative Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, sparked a furor and earned a rebuke from Mitt Romney’s campaign after saying in an interview broadcast Sunday that women’s bodies can prevent pregnancies in “a legitimate rape” and that conception is rare in such cases.

Akin, a six-term congressman running against incumbent Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill, was asked in an interview on St. Louis television station KTVI if he would support abortions for women who have been raped.

“It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Akin said. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Akin said of a rape victim’s chances of becoming pregnant.

Rep. Akin will be a guest on the Charlie Brennan show at 9:20 am Monday to speak about his comments.

You’re being disingenuous. The “No one knows” comments on that article is specifically in regards to the “psychic trauma” factor.

Every other calculation is pretty substantiated.

A point?? He has no point. This statement revealed one thing only. That he is an idiot and now has no chance of winning. He needs to withdraw.

Date rape’ didn’t replace another concise term.

That has nothing to do with whether or not the term "date rape" was coined by folks with political motives. You're trying to split too many hairs.

I agree with your point. I was a detective in Pennsylvania for many years. I investigated many rape cases and the vast majority were false, >90%. The motives were varied; seeking attention, fear of becoming pregnant and parents/spouses finding out, retribution against a boyfriend /spouse etc.
That said, the legitimate cases, esp. against children, are horrible and forever alter the victim and their families.

This assclown is your typical politician that never lived in the real world. His motivation was good, the sanctity of human life, but his insensitivity and ignorance has caused much damage and given fuel to the leftists and feminists.
Perhaps if he had ever witnessed a legitimate rape or had a family member raped he would have approached this in an educated, compassionate manner.

There have been many, many cases of raped women becoming pregnant. There is no magic “thing” a woman can do to “shut that down.”

Wow, another comment just like all the other moronic ones below the original post on Yahoo! Poor DallasSun, making idiotic comments is no bar to winning. Look no farther than Sheila Jackson-Lee and her idiotic comment about whether the Mars Pathfinder could go to where the astronauts left the American flag. Or her idiotic comment about the world now having two Vietnams living "side by side." Or Joe Biden's idiotic comment about Barry talking about "a three letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S." There are these and so many more. What your comment illustrates is either the presence of a Democrat in Freeper clothing or the tendency of certain Republicans to bend over backwards (or forwards in the case of John Boehner) to dump any Republican or cave into any Democrat demand for any reason out of fear of what "independents" would say if Democrats complain loudly enough. Either take off your mask and show yourself for what you are or get some steel in your spine.

It is not the media’s response that should concern us. It is the response by fellow republicans and republican voters who are outraged.

I’m going to guess that you haven’t had any college-aged daughters.

Those with college-aged daughters probably shouldn't be making such rules or laws, just as the parents of victims of school shootings shouldn't be making gun laws.

We need less emotion and PC-ness involved in many areas of college administration and lawmaking. I think there are some parents of some former, male Duke students who'd agree. That was purely a case of PC-ness and assuming that women would not make false claims of rape, in spite of the evidence that began piling up within a week or so of the false accusations.

This is all related to a more recent spat of interest group driven initiatives and PC-ness: the drive by gay activists to conflate bullying with discrimination against gays when the bullying of gays is probably a small minority of the total incidents of bullying. That's another thing that doesn't deserve its own separate category and consideration apart from the overall problem.

Rape is rape and bullying is bullying and getting all tangled up in specific circumstances and specific categories of victims, and political motives of interest groups, will result in unequal treatment of the various parties who might become involved in such a tangled mess of rules and laws.

EXCELENT excellent article!!! I always wonder when without any evidence or knowledge, many people will jump to the conclusion that something “can't” be true because it sounds preposterous. (Like Obama was not born in the U.S.).

While this may have been a mistake to poke the tiger or tickle the sleeping dragon, what he said is TRUE. Now that he has said it, he has to stand by it and explain it or get out. He has to do a Herman Cain (if you believe he was innocent).

I'm a firm believer in “THE TRUTH”, so I hope he stays in and only apologizes for maybe a poor choice of words, but stands by his statement as factually correct.

Abortion for the reasons of rape and incest, are still ABORTIONS! The baby had no part in it. It's just as much a baby as the product of a married man & woman who chose to dispose of what God has created. There is no legitimate reason to favor the murder (abortion) of a child in rape or incest cases.

Yes, the Duke case was an example of injustice.

But that doesn’t mean that a qualification of the circumstances of a crime is wrong.

Knee-jerkers like you go in assuming, apparently, that such a qualification makes it political, when really that’s not the case at all. It is simply descriptive.

It is the response by fellow republicans and republican voters who are outraged.

They are "outraged" because of the MSM spin on what he said.

I'm "outraged" that they are publically speaking against someone who is running on the Republican ticket. Their so called "outrage" will be more likely to cause an Akin defeat than the spin the MSM put on his comment.

Guess they don't agree with Reagan.

The saddest thing about this stumble is that the liberal interrogators will take Akin’s statement and slap every R candiate with it. “What do you think about Mr. Akin’s statement concerning the rape of women being okay because they can’t get pregnant?” (that is the way they will phrase it of course). Oh how I wish that the people of MO had listened to Sarah.

As a voter in MO I see it this way.

One stupid statement or more years of that obama ass kisser? Sorry but I will take my chances with Akin.

If they force him out I will vote for the replacement.
