Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, a conservative Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, sparked a furor and earned a rebuke from Mitt Romneys campaign after saying in an interview broadcast Sunday that womens bodies can prevent pregnancies in a legitimate rape and that conception is rare in such cases.
Akin, a six-term congressman running against incumbent Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill, was asked in an interview on St. Louis television station KTVI if he would support abortions for women who have been raped.
It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, thats really rare, Akin said. If its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down, Akin said of a rape victims chances of becoming pregnant.
Rep. Akin will be a guest on the Charlie Brennan show at 9:20 am Monday to speak about his comments.

Is he related to Biden? Went to the same ‘gaff’ classes?
Of course the same people yawned when Juanita Broaddrick went on TV to tell about being raped by Bill Clinton when he was Attorney General of Arkansas.
Listening to Charlie Brennan now. Those who are doctors and with medical knowledge have called in and agree with Todd Akin.
Yes, he does have a point. He made a damaging statement in two parts: talking about "legitimate rape" which would infuriate the MSM and the left in general, and talking about the idiotic notion that the body is less susceptible to pregnancy after a rape.
The first part is a valid point, and the second part is nonsense.
It is unfortunate, but he has made himself unelectable.
Before you jump all over me, I’m not saying that having every feminazi-influenced idiot voting is a good way to select Senators (or anything else), but we have to work with what we’ve got.
McCaskill is a disaster, and is easily beatable - except by Akin.
Get the hook.
Can the Missouri GOP unilaterally decide to dump him from the ticket, or is the only option for him to resign?
I was one of the people who cried foul on the Duke rape case, because the whole story stank to high heaven. That being said, there are cases where women, particularly young women, are too traumatized to open up their mouths about rape until the evidence is undeniable.
It happened to someone very close to me. Over 20 years later, she still has annual battles with depression for about a month around the anniversary of the attack.
Still sorry I didn't put a bullet in the bastard's head.
As if no one knows what legitimate rape means. It means women claim rape and know damn well they were a willing partner. It is not that hard to understand.
To bad this guy’s not a Democrat. Then, he’d just get sent to Delaware for a few days.
Rather than talk about the 99.9% and the intrinsic value of human life as Bachmann and Santorum had in the GOP primary season, Akin is uttering the words "legitimate rape" and talking nonsense.
McCaskill campaign spending a million in the Republican primary to get this guy as her primary opponent is the best million ever spent in the history of campaigns.
Rape is a horrible crime. Castration should be the penalty.
That said look up the stats on false reports of rape. A good percentage are false. If you make an exception for rape for abortion, wouldn’t any woman claim rape? So the exception becomes the rule.
Politically it was stupid and plays into the “war on women” MSM gameplan against Republicans.
That the woman's body has a magic way of keeping from getting pregnant from rapist sperm? That's nonsense.
I think the answer is that there is no generalization that covers how all women would react to a rape. The feminists have pushed the “no woman would lie about rape because it’s so traumatic to report and follow through”.
But of course, there are women who have made false accusations, and there are women who have never reported “legitimate rape”.
The self-serving generalizations by the feminists and the lap dog agreement by the MSM are what has served to muddle and confuse the discussion of rape and how different women would react to it.
ANOTHER Republican pulling defeat from the jaws of victory.
They never learn.
This is the kind of thing that happens when they go off-script.
Paging Sarah Steelman... Paging Sara Steelman... clean-up in the GOP-e Dept...
You should have listened to Sarah, Missouri!
Lets hope we find a way to salvage what should have been a slam dunk pick-up.
Not magical but physical/hormonal from the stress that results from it, according to intelligent callers to the Charlie Brennan show.
Read a report this morning of a contingent of U.S. congressmen in Israel on a fact finding mission (yea right), boozin it up and at least one of’em skinny dipping in the sea where “Jesus walked on water”.
Our elected servants of the people are so corrupt. They believe they can do just about anything and that they are untouchable.
Man, this kinda stuff torques me!
