"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.
His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.
Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.
Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.
The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.
Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

Suicide can also be a brave thing to do. Not that I condone it...
Jeez...you almost make a case for ‘free’ health care.
I knew quite a few people who were on anti-depressants and killed themselves. Anti-depressants aren’t meant to be given for more than a few months....just to get someone ‘through’ a tragedy. Then GET OFF of them, work though the pain, be strong. Anti-depressants create dependent depressing zombies when on them for more then a few months.
Your tag line sucks.
So does Liberal Romney.
You wouldn't know; you can't even spell it.
Apparently he had a brain cancer.
'Top Gun' director Tony Scott had inoperable brain cancer, ABC News says
I wonder if A&E will push the Scott brothers’ version of Coma. Real sad. They had interesting taste in productions.
ABC says he had inoperable brain cancer.
I'm sure you'd just pray it all away? Gotcha.
I always pray that I am lucky enough to go quickly and painlessly. I've been effected by suicide in my own family and it's devastating to those left behind. If I can't go quietly, I can go sedated. I just can't go leaving the burden of suicide on my loved ones.
“Jesus would have helped him.....if he would have asked. Very sad.....suicied is so selfish.

“I’m sure you’d just pray it all away? Gotcha.”
Who’s he seeing now? If he’s going to meet Jesus after he jumps from the bridge, why not talk to him ahead of time?
Not all depression is due to a tragic event. I have enough experience with people on anti-depressants to appreciate the "zombie" statement. They may not feel bad but they don't feel good either, at best they find themselves in an emotional straight jacket. Others develop suicidal thoughts even after long term exposure. Only some are situated to work through things, others suffer from permanent organic changes from a brain trauma or stroke.
Could be. Probably is a new record. :) Still learning new phone so that’s probably why... I must have reposted without realizing. Sometimes my typing is faster than my ole brain. :) Well, it’s the first time in my left I ever surpassed a record. :)
There are no genetic predispositions and chemical imbalances come from actions. Ask God to change the desires of your heart.
:) couldn’t tell ya but I’ll take a WILD GUESS... 5 times
maybe??? :)
Driving a Prius probably hints at some of his "issues" perhaps but,
Had inoperable brain cancer I see. 68 years old. Plenty of money. Should have enjoyed himself driving a sports car perhaps, and contributed to his family in his time remaining. Seems like a strange thing to do, just up and jump off a bridge but I guess he didn't want to be a burden maybe. Who knows what the cancer was doing to his judgement.
Anyone know what the reason was for offing himself? I mean the guy had to be loaded being a Hollywood Director and all.
LOL
Just reported that he had inoperable brain cancer. Sad.
