"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.
His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.
Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.
Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.
The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.
Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

We always get these ‘cowards’ comments on these suicide posts from not very educated people who immediatley judge.
Its routine here..but at least then some posters post some worthwhile information on depression and suicide, so others get educated.
Oh, Lord have mercy...
Now the “sin” comments.
How in heavens’ name can you make such a comment when you know NOTHING about this man’s personal life?
I guess if we just pray hard enough, that should take care of any chemical imbalances in the brain...Your types really add more pain to those who are suffering from a clinical depression. Why do you think God gave us doctors and medicine? Even then, we can’t always understand God’s greater plans.
suggestion:
1. Don’t judge what you don’t know anything about.
2. Get information on the causes of suicide.
4. Use spell check.
Don’t think you’ve recovered yet from your drugs.....Prayer s will LEAD you to the BEST DOCTORS and BEST MEDICINE.....geesh....don’t you pray???
OMG!
Rad Job.
Humans are not given the authority to take a life except in the case of self defense or in the execution of capital punishment.
The reason why suicide is selfish, actually an extreme consequence of prolonged arrogance, is that the thinking within the mind of a suicide is directed at self, rather than through faith in Christ.
One might not be able to say much about the cause other than an absolute truth that it manifests arrogance.
Again, read Job.
Suicide is not performed through faith in Christ.
Brilliant...attack my screen name..that is just so novel.Gosh, no one has ever done that to prove an argument.
Guess the guy is just as not perfect as you in your prayers to God or maybe this wouldn’t have happened. Guess he just didn’t pray hard enough. Now if you had been around YOU could have helped him pray.
Keep your sanctimonious religion...I will keep my compassionate God.
Have enough compassion to slowly think through how somebody thinks when they pursue suicide.
Is the object of their thinking in obedience to God and His Plan for our life? Is it fundamentally focused on a carnal way of thinking?
How does one think if one is in righteous fellowship with God?
If in doubt, have enough compassion to think how Christ thought when He remained in obedience to God the Father as He walked towards Calvary.
Would have been more apt if he had directed a submarine flick. He could have hollered “AH-OO-GA...AH-OO-GA....DIVE, DIVE”.....then dove off the bridge.
Wow, prayers solve all your problems, guaranteed? Gosh, I didn’t realise it was so simple. Are you really that credulous?
Paul Ryan pushed him.
No, God solves all your problems, guaranteed. Reject what He provides and you're a loser.
Sad. RIP.
Not only that but also what doors it opens spiritually for his family. Not good.
Yes......PRAYERS.....try it sometime.
Its “Do not go gentle into that good night” meaning that even thought the hereafter is good one should “rage” or fight against death. It is our duty to fight on. Dylan Thomas’ poem to his father shows much more love than the trendy “Gee I hate that the old guy is suffering so I guess he should just take a big dose of Morphine and...”
THANKS! I read that book years ago and will try to get the DVD
Tony and Ridley Scott ran Scott Free Productions and were working jointly on a film called Killing Lincoln, based on the best-seller by Bill O’Reilly.
Many of whom are also victims of Hollyweird.
