Congressman Todd Aikin, the GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate from Missouri should withdraw from the Missouri Senate Race immediately over his stupid statement he made today re: "legitimate rape". To not do so, will assure six more years for Claire McKaskill in the U.S. Senate. What he said, in essence, when asked about abortion, was that a "legitimate rape" rarely causes pregnancy. Now, that comment is going viral over the internet.
I witnessed, first-hand, in 1990 how a "rape gaffe" by GOP candidate for Governor of Texas, Clayton Williams, who had a wide lead in the polls at the time, caused him to lose the Governor's Office to Ann Richards; in GOP-Red Texas.
Many of us Conservatives understand what he was saying and are in agreement. But, it was a stupid thing to say. For the sake of this Election and control of the U.S. Senate, Aikin should withdraw immediately or "Turn out the lights; the party's over.

Having noticed same thing and more recently. You are being too kind calling them drama queens, more like wildeyed droolers. One could not even remember Aikins is from Mo. not ARK.
Thinking its the old Paulnuts who are getting cranked up just before the GOP Convention. Hope this will cool down after Convention.
I'm strongly pro-life and know all elections of pro-life candidates will ultimately get down to the abortion issue for the media wishes to discuss nothing else.
48 hrs for damage control; if unsuccessful, pull the plug.
And no, Akin is NOT going to the Convention now, whether he planned to or not.
This man didn't come out with a position of any sort that we disagree with, he simply made a gaffe of one word. That is simply not enough to fire someone over. It could happen to anybody and our esteemed presidential candidate has done far worse than this already.
Allen let ‘maccaca’ become a nebulous “he’s anti-minority” meme by not responding quick and hard.
Aiken can easily keep this from similarly becoming a nebulous “he’s anti-women” meme. He’s already well on the way.
He’s doesn’t have any ‘pro free government abortions for rape’ voters to lose and never would have had any- so he’s lost nothing.
That is honestly the stupidest thing said yet on this.
What I said is the meat of issue. Shameless opportunists hiding behind fake outrage and sissy-like fatalism in an effort to get a more preferred losing candidate shoved in.
I agree with you Breto. VanDeBonkers is in denial.
I have no preferred candidate and do not live in Missouri.
What I do know is that conservatives from coast-to-coast deserve better than this.
We MUST have this seat. I give Akin 48 hrs to turn this around, or he’s got to go.
This CANNOT be another Sharron Angle or Christine O’Donnell.
He made an idiotic comment on rape and pregnancy; it was far more than misusing one word. He’s been the GOP candidate for barely a week and this is the third comment of his that will wind up in McCaskill commercial. He’s his own worst enemy.
This guy isn’t a strong candidate. He got 36 percent of the vote in a divided primary.
Also, we all understand that the pro abortion vote isn’t coming his way.
However in these swing states there aren’t enough die hard conservatives to simply nominate and successfully elect every candidate who has the best conservative voting resume or stirs up 35 percent of the vote in a divided primary. If that were the case, the GOP would control the Senate with 65 votes right now.
To win these seats, you need to have really good candidates. Sharp people who understand how to deal with the media. Because there are the 10 percent of the electorate in the middle who decide these things. These moderates and independents may not be pro abortion but will listen to the Akin remarks and simply conclude he’s a dope. And they either stay home or vote for Claire. Game over.
I’m tired of us running Christine O’Donnell’s or Sharon Angles or now Todd Akin’s and losing these seats that should run GOP.
Akin does need to step aside before more damage and let one of the other two take the slot for the GOP. We’ve got to have a solid 51-53 votes to dump Obamacare.
A hard truth, but a truth.
He used the term “legitimate rape” in a tweet. Aikin and “Package Goods” Wiener should be exemplars why politicians should stay away from twitter or from any form of technology for that matter.Sometimes their brains are disconnected from their mouth and fingers.Obama was smart to hide the tweety bird from Biden.
You got anything to base that on besides wishful thinking?
There’s absolutely nothing idiotic about the point he was making. The liberals like to focus on that little 2% sliver of special cases to try and explain why we’re supposedly wrong because we’re only right 98% of the time. He was correctly pointing out that the cases of pregnancy resulting from rape are very low. That’s an important point to make in explaining our position. He simply used one wrong word, “legitimate,” when he should have said “violent.”
If Jack Ryan had held on, I think he would have beat Obama.
Steelman is female and has won statewide. Perfect antidote in this instance; and she was the strongest candidate we could have nominated.
If Akin loses it will take a monumental effort for the GOP to get 51 seats. They will have to sweep all the close races, including MA, NV, MT, ND, WI and hope for some big upsets in FL and/or OH. If that creep remains majority leader for 2 more years because they fell 1 seat short thanks to MO then this is a terrible scenario.
He is not wrong.
Rape rarely results in pregnancy.
