President Obama regards the week of the Republican convention as precious time to campaign, his spokeswoman told reporters to explain why he will not lay low that week, as is customary for incumbent presidents.
We know that this is a close election and we need to compete for every vote that we can compete for, Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Air Force One today. And thats one of the reasons the President will be spending some time on the campaign trail the week of the Republican convention.
Psaki was responding to a reporter who had noted that Traditionally, Presidents kind of stay low during the oppositions conventions and asked, Is he trying to steal some thunder next week with his own campaign trips?
She denied that his anticipated campaigning is an attempt to steal Romneys thunder. We know that there will certainly be a lot of attention paid to the Republican convention just like there will be to the Democratic convention the week we have it, Psaki said. But were not going to give up any precious time or precious time with voters when we have it.

“This president has no class.”
Actually, I hope Ryan returns the “favor”.
He might have a hard time doing that playing to PLANNED half empty venues.
Sorry but I had to fix that.
Not getting COLA for two years really hurt a lot of seniors....
The Chicago way for classless thugs...
Wake up on the wrong side of the straightjacket this morning?
Thank you. I’d never predict an election this far out, but momentum seems to be on Romney’s side...and it appears that Barry agrees with me.
Geeez...got your panties in twist, do ya?!@?
If I didn’t know any better I’d say you have advanced delusionary schizophrenia with involuntary narcissistic rage.
Ah well yes that does make a difference...
But theres nothing nothing usual about this election...
It would be traditional for Gov Sarah Palin as a leader in the GOP and the past VP canidate to speak in a leading role
but shes not...
I think both current would be candidates are lacking in virtue, grace and manners, and decency, American values, and patriotism..
and I would like to call for a do over...
But I dont get to arrange the programs...
Me too. I think Romney should do the same. He should fight for every vote. October is not that long from now, and obama is a dirty campaigner.
Is that what your doctor diagnosed for you ???
Sounds catchy...
please dont cough on the keyboard...
As for upstaging the RNC - rots o’ ruck.
Nobody’s going to be watching him, but then, nobody will be seeing the half-empty venues wherever he appears, either.
So for him, psychologically, it will be a wash. He can polish up his stump speech before modestly friendly audiences, try to regain a little stage presence, and get in the practice for all the moves he will be making shortly.
But nothing new or startling will be revealed in this period either, or if it is, it will be completely below any notice by the larger public. And be unrecorded, for the most part.
Dress rehearsal for election night.
obama is a dirty campaigner.

Dont worry
Willard taught Obama everything he knows...
Did you see how Willard anihilated the Conservatives this past Spring ???
When it comes to Obama He wont be as nasty to a fellow Harvard classmate and liberal...
But Im sure he will hit Obama with his purse a time or 2..
and now he has a man working for him...
Im sure Paul Ryan will keep Obama from hurting Wee Willies fragile ego..
You Romney fans are the crazy ones. I can’t believe how much you liberals love your candidate. Sad.
It is probably a false notion that presidential candidates sit on the sidelines during their opponents conventions because they are being gentlemen, giving their opponents their day in the sun, knowing that they will be reciprocated in kind during their convention.
It's more because the conventions tend to dominate the news cycle during the week they are going on so it would be futile for the opposing candidate to gain any traction or media coverage during that period anyway. So they give themselves and their campaign staff a much-needed vacation so they can re-charge their batteries for the general election battle that lies ahead.
If Obama continues campaigning during the RNC, he's just being stupid (as usual) and burning out his campaign staff for no good reason.
