Today, Gallup's daily tracking poll showed Romney moving into a two-point lead over Obama, 47% to 45%. It was the first time since early June that Romney has led in the tracking poll. The race was tied all last week at 46%.
A good portion of today's numbers come after the announcement of Paul Ryan as Romney's running mate. Democrats were initially giddy about the selection, as they assumed they could paint Ryan and, by extension, Mitt Romney, as a "dangerous radical," with his plan to reform entitlements. Ever since the announcement, the media has been on a crusade to attack Ryan and build up his negatives.
Today's numbers from Gallup, however, suggest that the media's efforts aren't working. Expect the critiques to get even more shrill and expect more "anonymous" GOP sources to criticize Ryan. It is what the media does.

An actual, small government conservative candidate for ‘12 GOP POTUS would, probably, be doing much better. It’s unacceptable that two leftists are the remaining MAJOR CANDIDATE CHOICES left in the ongoing race for ‘12 POTUS.
1%?
It is reality, deal with it.
This poll probably only has a day of polling after the 60 Minutes interview too.
If they’re admitting two, it’s five to ten.
Great report...
My pleasure!
Ya these things lead and lag like a whiskey compass and will take a few days to get better numbers. You are probably spot on. I'd love to see Dick Morris in a few days if he gets the internals from an un-named firm he had data from last week. My guess is the trend is our friend...
Im Ready For R and R
Obama Must Go
Yes, I agree. You don’t see folks turned away from campaign events because the place is overwhelmed unless there’s something going on.
As for Obama, his empty seats at his events tell ‘the rest of the story’ as Paul Harvey would say.
You are a 1911 guy but are attacked on the street by a gang of thugs and are able to disengage a Glock from the BG’s hands onto the street. Do you not pick it up and instead complain that you are a 1911 guy?
They will definately try to Cain him. (Interviewing the ladies now).
Calling Romney a leftist shows a mental capacity of a lower IQ individual. Actually, the Republican ticket is the most conservative ticket since Reagan in 1980.
I’m sorry, 1-2% does not a “bounce” make. Such light movement should be looked at as ‘statistical noise’ when it comes to virtually any poll. Now, if Romney had jumped 5-10 points, then that’s what I’d call a bounce. Really though, I don’t think I recall the VP selection ever yielding any significant movement in polls. The electorate is so polarized this year, I doubt we’ll even see much movement after the conventions, and the convention speeches normally DO create at least a temporary real bounce in the numbers. After both conventions the numbers are normally about where they were before hand, within a week or so.
Having said that, I reckon I’d rather have 0bama be down 2 than up by that amount.
Today, it is 47-45, a week ago the numbers for Aug 2-8, the numbers were reversed. That’s a 4 point bounce.
Rasmussen, now Gallup...
