Teacher charged with beating dog to death; rescue group devastated
BY JAMES SCALZITTI Staff Reporter/jscalzitti@suntimes.com August 10, 2012 8:16AM
The dog was a little over a year old, a yellow lab-chow mix named Doc, rescued from an abusive home in Oklahoma and brought to Chicago for adoption.
But the rescue organization was stunned Friday to learn that Doc was beaten to death, allegedly by his latest owner, a fourth grade teacher from Lake View who told police he was frustrated after the dog misbehaved, defecated on himself and resisted efforts to clean him up.

What a rotten excuse for a human being. Beats an already abused dog to death. Yet, he teaches children... what happens when one of his students does something he doesn’t like?! Will he beat them to death and stuff them into the trunk of his car? Articles like this infuriate me beyond words.
They should seriously blockade Chicago from the rest of the country and let the city burn itself to the ground and let the human animals kill each other off then go in and rebuild it with actual human beings. What a sh#thole. This idiot should be given the same treatment he gave the dog.
This crime needs to be brought up at the school district’s next meeting. If they do not act, then pickets at the school where this creep teaches at would be appropriate.
I don’t know what it is that makes some people think they can treat animals like that. Such a beautiful animal...
Very sad.
Chicago..it figures..
Had the dog come in to his home and “clicked”, violently attacking someone and the only means of ending the attack was beating the dog- then I would understand.
But because this dog, who was a rescued dog, coming out of an abusive atmosphere, and “misbehaves” by having an accident... Somehow deserves to be beat to death? I don’t think so!!!!

An eye for an eye.
Special place in hell for him.
There are no words! Certainly his license to teach should be re-evaluated.
His students could be next!
This makes me sick to my stomach.
If he has this little patience with animals, how can he teach kids? He should be booted out of the school system.
Derek Fierro / Chicago Police)
Fierro, a teacher at Eugene Field Elementary School in East Rogers Park, adopted the dog when it was only a few months old from Chicago Canine Rescue.
The shelter named the dog "Doc" because he was part of a litter of seven puppies and said they would have taken it back
The shelter wants the remains of the dog given a proper burial.
Chicago Public Schools Inspector General James Sullivan said they are investigating the incident, which could lead to disciplinary action against the teacher.
So, he returned home and found that the dog had “eaten every scrap of paper in the house and defecated on himself”. I wonder how long he’d been gone.
This guy is good looking. I don’t know if he’s single, but this is a warning to all women in Chicagoland — stay far away from a guy with such a short temper. You might be next. Certainly the school district should remove him from all contact with children.
And he’s a teacher no less. Sure hope he no longer has a job.
A sorry excuse for a human being. People wonder why there are times I prefer the company of my cat to most humans.
Please fire this scum! He’s around kids.
Anyone that would do that to a dog has loose nut.
My own (late) lab-chow mix best buddy of fourteen wonderful years, Wally, was the gentlest, most loving soul I've ever encountered, in more than half a century of living.
JimRob would ban me for life were I to post what ought to be done to the miserable, wretched waste of skin.
