CBS News Tea Party-backed Rep. Akin wins Missouri GOP Senate primary to take on McCaskill
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Rep. Todd Akin, who played up his tea party credentials and conservative appeal, broke out from a three-way Missouri Republican primary on Tuesday to earn the right to take on Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, setting up one of ...

Oh yea. She helped launch the fraud. Glad to see her go. As a woman, I have to say that liberal women and their base played a significant role in the downfall of this country. Once again, obama is leading big among women. They are a stupid constituency (conservative women excepted).
I'm in MA, where should an actual conservative have the temerity to announce as a Republican, the MA GOP will quickly recruit a liberal to primary him and throw its support to the liberal. MA has a lot of conservatives, just never a conservative candidate to vote for!
Now it’s time to forget all that and do what needs to be done which is send McCaskill’s sorry self packing in November!
If I was akin I would run one add over and over! It would say this:
“It was Claire McCaskill’s vote that gave us Obamacare!”
She is also the only one out there, putting herself on the line, going up to bat time and time again. She is not afraid of "losing", that's a part of life. Win some, lose some.
Her batting season thus far has been quite impressive.
I always like to compare votes between the major party candidates, because it's a fairly good predictor of how the November election will go. The top three Republicans split 567,000 votes to Claire's 289,000. That's 2 Republican votes to every Democrat vote, in a state where it usually runs about 50-50. Assuming the Republicans will unite behind Akin, things look very good for Akin’s chances in November.
“Catty hags in the Lame-Stream Media likely sharpening their claws to write the death knell of Sarah Palins influence.”
There are enough Palin haters right here at FR, sad because it was once called Palin Country...so much for that around here anymore.
as for Sarah S result, remember that in a 3 way race anything can happen. Lots of Rino`s in MO me thinks
The skeptical poster was questioning the assertion that Akin was backed by the Tea Party during the primary. It was news to me, too. Todd Akin had the support of Mike Hukabee, but I got the impression that the Tea Party favorite was Sarah Steelman. Maybe it was because of the support Steelman got from Sarah Palin.
Akin does have a solid conservative record and I would think that the Tea Party will support him.
He has never shied away from being a Godly conservative. He would make a great senator.
Heard McCaskill bashing him this morning as she heads out to Kansas City to campaign.

In any case, it sounds like you're lucky enough to have a state GOP that doesn't actively undermine conservative candidates!
Though the other possible outcomes wouldn't have been awful.
Are the other two candidates likely to actively support Akin in the general?
The sub rosa of 2012 is going to be a 'Clean Gene' election nationally; people are sick of the children running DC who are running our country into the ground; time to send adults like Akin and Mourdock to clean up the mess.
Any of those conservatives are a huge upgrade over ObamasClaire. If majority of Missourians re-elect her then they deserve whatever carpola comes their way.
“Appearing before family, friends and campaign staff, Steelman announced that she had conceeded the election to Akin at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
“Todd Akin is a fine man, and a good conservative,” Steelman said. “I know he’ll fight hard for the people of this state, and I put faith in him.”
Although disappointed with the result, Steelman pledged to do everything she can to help Akin defeat Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill in November’s election.
Akins victory particularly took Brunner by surprise. Brunner had spent at least $8 million of his own money and had led in all the pre-election polls. Tuesday night, Brunner opted against a public concession speech, instead offering his congratulations in a private phone call to Akin.
So was Atkin the one she backed or were there two Tea Party candidates?
I thought Steelman was the TP candidate.
Actually there was no Tea Party candidate - or they all were. I backed Akin but I have friends in the Tea Party who backed all three and all agreed to back the winner. We were in the unusual position of having a great slate of candidates - in this race and in all the state-wide races. Missouri will be a solid red state come November.
Everybody always keep saying “Democratic” this and “Democratic” that. There’s nothing “democratic” about how they do things. It’s one single party line, and if people don’t tow it, they’re out.
This always pisses me off. Fox should know better.
