A Louisiana teachers union is threatening private schools with legal action if they accept money from a new voucher program and the threat has already forced at least one school to put its participation in the program on hold.
The demand was sent a few weeks ago by law firm representing the Louisiana Association of Educators and several other interests, and it argues the state-approved program is illegal because participating schools would be receiving an unconstitutional payment of public funds.
The two-page letter further states if schools dont agree, then the law firm has no alternative than to take legal action.
Our clients have directed us to take whatever means necessary to prevent the unconstitutional transfer of public money, wrote Brian Blackwell, of the firm Blackwell & Associates.

1) Abortion: Millions turn out to buy a chicken sandwich, but the nearest abortion center is likely to have only 3 or 4 protesters on any given day. If Christians **really really really** wanted to end abortion they would.
2) If Christians wanted an end to the godless socialist-entitlement government K-12 schools they would immediately remove their children. In many counties that would instantly collapse the entire godless system. And...They would elect legislators who would complete defund the entire godless system of government schooling.
I fear for this nation. I doubt God will save us ( especially Christians who do **know** better).
“We have the ability to carefully screen which families are invited to participate - character matters.”
The La. voucher system does not allow for this. You get what you get.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans has access to more and better lawyers than any state teacher union. And there’s a wealth of outside talent if the union goes to the parent union.
“Government owned and run socialist-entitlement schooling **IS IS IS ** redistribution disguised under the euphemism of public school.”
I understand that. It’s is far too expensive and unions are GUILTY. But, why spread, for lack of a better term, the virus. Why taint private schools with govt money followed eventually by govt demands. Why ruin the millieu of a private school with kids who don’t care about their education and are already engaged in criminal or near criminal behavior as a juvenile.
Whether i’s believable or not there is a difference to me when it comes to govt handouts for a public education vs a govt handout for a private education. It’s maybe similar to food stamps for ground meat vs filet. I’m paying out the nose $8,200/year for education, millieu and peer group and now these kids show up for free. Why the hell do I bother?
Taste that govt cheese and SNAP!!! Diversity training, American atrocity day, homosexual appreciation day, and cross-dress day, among other less obvious progressive shaping all potentially become a requirement to receive the now depended upon cash.
The concern is legit, but it doesn't have to happen that way. A lot will depend upon the composition of the Louisiana State Supreme Court. You might even need a constitutional amendment or two.
Yup, I caught that. All that means is you start from a different position.
The larger point, though, is if you can act together as a school community and with your board, you may be able to come up with a structure that works for you. The size of the school may largely determine if this is possible. Ours is about 500 families.
Sounds like Section 8 housing. The notion behind Section 8 was to get welfare families into stable middle-class neighbourhoods to assimilate them to middle-class norms. The hope was that living in a middle-class environ would encourage those welfare families to straighten up a bit and loose their self-defeating 'Hood habits.
Didn't work out that well...
Cowards.
You make excellent points. At first blush this program sounds like a step in the right direction. If the state is going to guarantee and education then the parents should be able to ensure they get a good one. But if this program is not available to everyone it is a screw job. It inflates the cost of education. Everyone should get a voucher. Schools can charge $5000 more than the voucher if they want to.
I’ve actually likened it to Section 8’ing private schools on a message board in the recent past. Thanks for the reminder, it’s a perfect description.
Your is correct. Your child and your taxes are things that belong to you.
IIRC, Kaleefornia ranks dead last - is this correct?
“You’re” refers to the use of the word in post 15.
My bad. I noticed the “right off” thing and just assumed you were referring to that post.
The **best** way to end all government school welfare, ( remember government schooling is welfare) is for Christians to remove their children, for churches to set up their own schools, for Christians to set up homeschool cooperatives, and to burry the legislators with protest. In my county, if every Christian removed their child the system here would utterly collapse.
That is why I think when punishment comes to the U.S. God will be especially annoyed with Christians. We should, and many do, KNOW better.
By the way,...SHAME on the Christian ministers who are to afraid to offend the government school workers in their congregations. Also....I wonder how many ministers have spouses working in the government schools? Lots is my bet!
I still don't see anything The Constitution about unions...do you? Duh

Left wing fascism.
Political correctness was designed to silence and intimidate people from speaking out against left wing special interest groups and their agendas. (NOTICE - PC does not protect any right wing groups).
People are figuring out they've been had by the lefts faux "compassion, tolerance, and diversity", because the left - obviously - has none of these things. In fact, they're showing themselves to be just the opposite more and more every day.
There's an enlightenment going on in this country, and the left isn't happy about it. Their Tower of Babble is collapsing right in front of their eyes.
I agree. Send the voucher to the parent, and end it there. That way, there's a "middle man", and the government can't tell people what schools are "appropriate" or not "appropriate", and schools can teach their conscience without government dictation.
Democrats would send their kids to indoctrination centers because of their left wing beliefs, and Republicans will send their kids to schools that teach academics to fit their beliefs.
In the end, the democrats won't be able to stain the children from other families, and the other kids could finally get a decent education.
.
Solution:
a)Move cash-paying students to the top of the list
b)Allow tax write off for these parents
c)The private school should say they set the standards, and no strings attached, of they won’t accept.
Just my $.02
No, LOL. Unfortunately, leftists aren’t concerned about the constitution. If they can’t rely on the general welfare clause, the necessary and proper clause, or any of the other penumbras, well then they can always rely on John Roberts, that ultra conservative that Senate Demos opposed.
