New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and state officials are pushing initiatives aimed at encouraging new mothers to breastfeed their babies, drawing criticism from some parents who say officials are interfering with their health choices.
State health commissioners announced on Tuesday that letters highlighting the importance of breastfeeding were being sent to hospitals, reminding them of regulations limiting unnecessary formula feedings for breastfed newborns.
The state initiative coincides with Bloomberg's call for hospitals to lock away their baby formula and have nurses encourage new mothers to breastfeed.

There’s a FEDERAL GOAL to have 70 percent of newborns breastfeeding?
This sh!t is out of control!
Nanny State PING!
How’s it feel, Leftists?
I want to see a news organization go back and review the people they interviewed during the whole soda controversy garbage and ask them their opinion on this breastfeeding thing.
I’d bet that those in favor of the soda size ban are against the breastfeeding mandate. Bloomberg’s a raging moron.
How about limiting abortions? Newbies need boobies!
and thus the Boobs for Bloomberg campaign begins...
Even the brainless can stagger into a right way.
I don’t understand why people don’t understand what is going on here.
Who is government: Mayor
Who are the ones providing swag bags, free samples, get started kits: Private industry
Government is simply continuing to destroy private industry.
People’s ignorance is staggering. There are immense benefits for babies from breastfeeding. In Third World countries (whose citizens are often here now) this can be the difference in life and death for their babies.
The goal should be 100%.
Who’s thirsty?
Tell me about it, I live under this putz and it’s only a matter of time before he demands monitors in the bedroom. “The missionary position is not being done properly! Fine this couple!”
I could sit here for an hour and list all the insane stuff this guy does. What you read in the press is only the tip of the iceberg. The worst by far is he is cutting streets in half and making traffic as bad as possible in the thought that people will give up driving and take up cycling instead. Why? Because he’s a global warming fanatic. he just does not want cars to exist...Unless of course he needs one. Then the streets are cleared with a police escort.
Every-single-day I see firetrucks, police cars, ambulances stuck in traffic, I mean standing stock still frozen in traffic with their sirens blaring going nowhere because of his global warming fanaticism, and if you can believe it, he bashes them for slow response times! And the libs here say nothing, they just grit their teeth and take it because to protest him would be to protest against all they believe in.
I agree.
But what are they going to do about the crack smoking, drug taking, alcohol sucking new moms that produce so many of the new babies nowadays, as well as the mothers who have to return to work within 6 weeks just to pay the taxes. Breastfeeding takes a healthy, relaxed mother and it takes lots of TIME — time most women won’t stand for as they often have better things to do ....like shop, party, work, etc.
A LOT of women don’t have NEARLY the patience to breastfeed as many would just assume.
Complete agreement.
Fine. Do a PR campaign. Other than that, it’s none of your business.
I meant a public service campaign...
Why have freedoms when we have a nanny state dictating everything that is good for us?
Lord Bloomberg knows what is best for all!
Wake up critizing parents. Healthcare is no longer your choice. It is for the far wiser members of the political class to decide what is best for you proles.
Now kindly shut up, go back to work and pay your taxes.
Of those that get past legal abortion.
I'd be happy to breastfeedMmmm.... Bacon!
hmm. 100% means more dead babies.
