As the use of smart phones grows across the nation, both President Obama and Mitt Romney are seeking to leverage the technology with new campaign apps.
The Romney campaign on Tuesday launched a free app called "Mitt's VP," which will allow users to learn who Romney has chosen to serve as his running mate as soon as it's announced.
"There's no telling when Mitt will choose his VP. But when he does, be the first to find out with Mitt's VP app," the campaign teased on its website.
The app, available on iPhone and Android platforms, will give users immediate notification and let them share the news on social media.
Now that his trip abroad has wrapped up, Romney is expected to announce his vice presidential pick soon. One of his potential choices, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, promoted the new app via Twitter, sending out the message, "Who will be @MittRomney VP?

“Siri, choose my running-mate.”
Oh, I just won't be able to WAIT for it to be posted on FR to find out.
Not.
One app I WON'T be ordering for my HTC.
Why doesn’t he just go all in and Twitter it? That way he can get a solid lock on the 12-14 year old girl vote.
Creepy. And Rubio is hawking it? Have mercy...
I figured he’d use the “Willard” organizer (purchased from Joe Saccamano Sr., on the street near Del Boca Vista).
Let me see.... will it be RINO A, B, or C?
Meh.
This was stupid. When only 17 people download the app, it’s going to be used against him.
It’s an app I can do without also. What? I’ll have to wait a whole 30 seconds to hear it here? Oh, what will I do?
Now that was pretty funny. :)
I’m picking RINO D, none of the above.
He’s going to SURPRISE us.
Can we all chip in and send John McCain to Antarctica for six months, just to be sure?
I know, I know..., still, can we? ;^)
“I don’t always use a smart phone, but when I do, I announce my VP running mate...stay plugged in my friends”...
Doesn’t the article say it will be shown on the app AFTER it’s announced? Am I understanding that correctly? I sure hope so because I don’t twitter, tweak or twaddle.
Assuming the ap has planned obsolescence once the VP selection is made, I wouldn’t call this move as being on target. However, he is at least pointing down-range. So much of our society uses social media, leverages tech, etc. - I’d argue it a liability if Romney wasn’t doing so. His competitor will be doing so.
Good grief.
It's not like Romney is going to be the Lincoln or Moses we've all been waiting for. He's just better than Oboma. Anybody is better than Oboma. My dirty socks would make a better president than Oboma. I mean, c'mon!
Looks like it’s going to be about as simultaneous as they can make it. I don’t get the need to find out that fast. It’s something we’ll be dealing with for months or years. You’d have to have the patience of a gnat, to need to see the choice that quickly.
First of all, Romney should not announce until after the Olympics. That is all people are concentrating on right now. I can’t see the networks interupting their Olympic News to give the VP any time to give a speech these next two weeks. Even Fox News is all about Olympics rightfully so.
It better be Rubio or else Romney is going to have a tough time climbing the hill with the Hispanic vote! And I’m serious, if he can get some of the Hispanic vote away from OBOZO he has it in the bag. Rubio is very well liked in the Hispanic community! IF not Rubio, West would be an AWESOME selection too, but he won’t gain that much from the black voting block.
Youd have to have the patience of a gnat, to need to see the choice that quickly.
I agree. I can certainly wait. Your comment made me think about my friend. She doesn’t watch TV or own a regular telephone. If it doesn’t show up on her IPhone she doesn’t know about it. She can’t even sit through dinner without checking that thing for messages or alerts.
