Terror Island of all Corps Recruits.
In 2010, auto manufacturers recalled a staggering 20 million cars in the US for various defects. The thought of such a large number of defective cars on the road is startling enough. But what is more disturbing is the apathy of some owners. In one instance, the executive director of the Center for Auto Safety warned owners, Its a free repair. Get it done. It may save your life. Yet, despite the risk to their own lives, 30 percent never responded.
Likewise, many ignore Gods recall notice to the entire human race. Unlike a defect found in automobiles, the moral defect of the human race is not the Makers fault. He made everything very good (Gen. 1:31), but peoples sin ruined it. Gods offer to us is repent . . . that your sins may be blotted out (Acts 3:19).
God offers not just a free repair of the human heart but a replacement of it (Ezek. 36:26; 2 Cor. 5:17). Though the offer costs us nothing (Eph. 2:8-9), it cost God the life of His only Son Jesus Christ. [Jesus] bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousnessby whose stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24).
Dont ignore the Lords call. The free and permanent remedy offered by God for your spiritual defect will save your life!
Read: Acts 3:13-21
I lived on PI in 1964-65 as a 13 year old. It was my father’s last duty station before retiring.
Let me tell you that things were hopping there. They were running through a huge number of recruits due to the escalation in Viet Nam. Which was where my father served before coming to PI.
My father was a boot there in WW2, a DI there later in the war, and retired from there in 1965. A Marine of exemplary patriotism and *honor* until he died in 2003. Few of our “leaders” today would be fit to polish his boots.
Spent three wonderful months there in 1989.
Thanks, Galz, for a great Road Trip! Wish I could really go to all those neat places we “travel” to here on the Canteen! :)
USMC Receiving Barracks, Yemassee, SCIn 1915, the Marine Corps developed a recruit-receiving station in Yemassee, in coordination with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. A receiving facility was leased for incoming recruits to stay the night before being shipped to Parris Island. When the Receiving Station was closed in 1965, more than half a million recruits had passed through the railroad junction on their way to Parris Island.
Back in the day recruits travelled by train to Yemassee on their way to boot camp at Parris Island?
I went through there in 1960.
How many other Freepers went through Yemassee and the USMC Receivng Station on their way to P.I.??
Watching my oldest son graduate from Parris Island in '96....
Was quite the family event....
OOOh-RAH!
Semper Fi...
Thanks for posting that. That’s where my kid is going!
I was there back in the mid 70's
Had a terrible time,
got yelled at,
half beaten,
starved.....
forced to do things that genteel folks should not do...
unmentionable things
Looked at sternly by scary, mean men.
I still have recollections that are disturbing.

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
military, our allies, and their families
Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for todays activities.
SC is a nice, long drive from here, so
I think I'll take the limo.
Anyone need a ride?

One reason why I joined the Navy was the statement from my brother-in-law, who had served in the Marines, that I wouldn’t make it through Parris Island. I was 5’6” and 109 lbs when I enlisted.
And I grew up 10 miles from Cherry Point (where my parents worked) and 50 miles from Camp LeJeune. Didn’t care for Marines much.
After 20 years in the Navy I gained an immense respect for the United States Marine Corps.
