To: Kathy in Alaska

One reason why I joined the Navy was the statement from my brother-in-law, who had served in the Marines, that I wouldn’t make it through Parris Island. I was 5’6” and 109 lbs when I enlisted.

And I grew up 10 miles from Cherry Point (where my parents worked) and 50 miles from Camp LeJeune. Didn’t care for Marines much.

After 20 years in the Navy I gained an immense respect for the United States Marine Corps.
