Romney Supports Two-State Solution

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney supports a two-state solution to solve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, he told CNN during his visit to Jerusalem.

In an interview with the American news network, which took place in Jerusalem on Sunday, Romney was asked if he saw the starting point for negotiations as the borders which existed prior to the 1967 Six Day War. He responded by saying, “I'm not being that specific. I'm saying that there will be borders that have to be negotiated and what the starting point is something which will be decided by the parties involved.”

He added, “What the ending point is will be decided by the parties involved.”

Addressing the issue of Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria, which the U.S. has criticized, Romney said that the issue “is something that should be discussed in private by the American president and our allies.”

“When we show a diplomatic distance between ourselves and our ally, I think we encourage people who oppose that relationship to seek other means to achieve their ends,” he added.

Romney also repeated that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem, something he also said during a speech in the Old City on Sunday.

in other words, he doesn't support a two-state solution, just a process towards a two-state solution that will never end, and never begin, because the parties will never agree where to start. That's an improvement, although still not satisfactory.

“just a process towards a two-state solution that will never end, and never begin, because the parties will never agree where to start. “

A Two-State solution is fine. You have Israel, which speaks for itself, and you have a Palestinian state, in which people are free, no political violence, no hatred towards Jews, Christians, Amish, or anything else that doesn’t fit their narrow template. Kids in the Palestinian State that grow up to respect Israel and understand that Jews are human, just like they are supposed to be.

Silly me...you’re right, where could they start, with pre-conditions like that?

No; only one party wants a One-State Solution, as in an Islamic State.

A two state solution is not possible in practice.... with the Pali’s. Everybody needs to get real about this.

Dunno, but if the UN offered me and mine a boatload of tax-free real estate near the Mediterranean Sea, I’d take it in a heart beat. These Palis aren’t very bright, are they?

You’re reading that wrong. Israel supports a two state solution. He’s not chumming it up with the Palis.

In fact, he was very shrewd in that he picked up on the attempt to get him to state the 67 borders where things should wind up. He deftly avoided that, and said the two main parties to this agreement were the ones that would have to determine that. The Leftist media has been trying to get Israel and the West to agree to the 67 border, before anything else is discussed. Hell no.

He’s actually been quite refreshing on Israel. His comments on Jerusalem were perfect. He’s doing better than Obama or Bush. For one thing, he isn’t attacking Israel the way they both did.

“Israel needs to show restraint (who cares if it’s being shelled non-stop from Palestinian territory).”

Bush and Rice used to drive me to distraction with their idiotic statements after Israel was attacked.

Romeny’s approach so far, is what needed to be said to bring both parties back together. Starting from a position of weakness sure didn’t work.

No, they want it all. Can’t they just have it all. Why does Israel have to exist? Can’t Israel just be shoved into the sea? Come on, the Palestinians deserve it. It’s their’s.

This is the even hand the Western press and the Palestinians have been pretending is fair for the last twenty years or more.

So how is that going to be accomplished? Where are all the millions of Greeks, Turks, Kurds, and Arabs going to go?

I’m not sure many Israelis would advocate such maximalist claims, except for the most militant of the religious parties. After all the negotiation process has already allowed them to consolidate territories in the West Bank around settlements.

This is what i read...

“Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney supports a two-state solution to solve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, he told CNN during his visit to Jerusalem.”

But if there is a two-state solution there would be a divided Jerusalem...

and it wouldnt be the capital...

It could be that Willard just said what sounded good while he was in Israel...

After all he was there to collect tribute money..

IF he ever got the White House it wouldnt be long thereafter when his true policy towards the Jews was known...

The Palis would force his hand and Willard would back down...

In 2008 he said he wouldnt have any Moslems in his cabinet/administration because the Moslems were too small a % of population in the US...whatever that meant...

Well theres a whole lot more of them now...

Be interesting to see what he would do...

Purely for the entertainment value...

(I’ll also be counting the women and blacks but that a different story)

I believe in a two state solutions also. The first state created out of the Palestinian mandate (Trans-Jordan..now Jordan) and the current Israeli state composed of Israel proper and the West Bank. Gaza can hang out as a Hamas island all it wants, until it is reabsorbed by Egypt.

The covenant establishing the PLO calls for a one state solution that includes all of the original Palestinian Mandate.

This has never been changed.

The problem is that no one was ever called Palestinians except the Jewish settlers until 1967, when magically all Arabs living in the area, who had always insisted they were Arabs began calling themselves Palestinians. This didn't happen until they got their lunch handed to them in the 1967 war.

The Palestinians are a made up people according to their own leadership.

Indeed Zuheir Mohsen’s admission is lost on the liberals, who have been trying to suppress it for decades. Even worse, pan-Arabism is based on the Nazi notion of pan-Germanism, just as Nasserism and Ba’athism is based on national socialism.

My thought too. Freedom for the peace-loving peoples of the United Red States of America! Maybe “one country, two systems”? (like HK/China)

Someone needs to post a face palm.

Why does it seems for every three steps forward, this idiot Romney takes two steps back.

He’s sometimes just as stupid as Paula Abdul.

Romney didn't say this.  This is what the Palestinian leader said.  Romney didn't buy into it.  He stated that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel, and didn't deviate or expand on that.  He said it twice while he was over there.

and it wouldnt be the capital...  He didn't say this either.

It could be that Willard just said what sounded good while he was in Israel...  Yes, that could be.  We have no evidence of that yet, but I've adopted that theory on a number of his statements.  We'll see if this is one of those times.  It may be.  We can't say for sure though.

After all he was there to collect tribute money...  Perhaps.  It's my take he's trying to embellish his international stature.  It was a wise move to do this.

IF he ever got the White House it wouldn't be long thereafter when his true policy towards the Jews was known...  You do mean Israel don't you?

The Palis would force his hand and Willard would back down...  Look, we can make all sorts of assumptions.  Some of them may be very accurate.  We don't know until it happens.  It may happen.  It may not.  Frankly, I like what he's had to say so far with regard to Israel.  If the guy goes over there and says something wrong, we trash him.  If he goes over there and says the right things, we trash him too.  Look, I'm not voting for the guy.  I've made my mind up and that's it.  That doesn't prevent me from listening to him and giving him kudos if he's saying the right things.

In 2008 he said he wouldn't have any Moslems in his cabinet/administration because the Moslems were too small a % of population in the US...whatever that meant...  Yeah, that's kind of a strange way to address it, based on percentages.  It's the right move IMO, but man up and explain why.

Well theres a whole lot more of them now...  Yes there are.  And I'm not inclined to think there should be a one in the White House.  Sorry, but we're essentially on a war footing with those folks.  It's too big a chance to take.

Be interesting to see what he would do...  Yes it will.

Purely for the entertainment value...  Well, I'd go beyond that and state it would interesting based on national security concerns.

(I’ll also be counting the women and blacks but that a different story)
Aw come on, don't you think we need another Maggie Williams in there.  /s

Thanks for the additional comments.  Take care.
