PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is standing behind stances taken by mayors in Chicago and Boston against Chick-fil-A after the companys president said he was not in favor gay marriage.
I came out in support of gay marriage and support the right of gay couples to marry and would be supportive of them in this case as well, Ravenstahl said Thursday.
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he doesn't support same-sex marriage. The fast-food chain said it has a history of applying biblically based principles to its business, such as closing stores on Sundays.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told the Chicago Tribune that Cathys comments "disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents," and therefore building the restaurant in Chicago "would be a bad investment, since it would be empty."
Last week, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald he would block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city.

Ravenstahl said there are currently no plans for a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the city.

Boy mayor is an idiot. Good thing i have chick-fil-a 5 minutes away from me just outside the city.
Doncha just wish they’d come right out and say it?
“WE OPPOSE CHRISTIAN VALUES AND BELIEFS”
But, of course, considering their ideological father, they couldn’t be honest about their agenda.
I do not support elected officials in public office using their office to force their personal opinions on others - particularly in discriminating against businesses. Seems to me I heard somewhere discrimination was bad, now where was that...???
So you go right ahead and support those other over-reaching Mayors. I just decided to support who-ever runs against you.
This phoney outcry is ridiculous. These very people blasted 1 Million Moms for their boycott of JCP. Bunch of hypocrites.
Should I write to Ravenstahl and ask him when he plans to close all the Catholic and Evangelical churches in the City?
I guess none of these brain trusts want christian votes.
It’s really creepy how so many mayors are really “into” homosexuality these days.
There have been rumors that the boy mayor is gay; so maybe this is a fitting stand for him to take.
However, gay or not, he’s an idiot.
The Boy Mayor speaks......Pittsburgh has been abandoned by business, for good reason. The Chick Fil A here in the suburbs is packed daily.
Why can’t the rich liberals equal the generousity of the Cathy family?
Nor are there likely to ever be. Chick-fil-A does just fine in the nearby burbs. We have three in our hometown of Greensburg, a mid-sized city within commuting distance.
Pittsburgh can continue to make their money off college students, hospitals and parking taxes. Eventually the businesses paying them will get smart and move out to the 'burbs as well.
How courageous to threaten CFA, you anti-Christian bigot, when there was no plan to build one in your dump of a town.
I would be ashamed to live in cities where voters have put such ungodly leaders in public office.
I guess it’s OK now to review the applicant’s religious beliefs when considering a business permit.
This is sort of reminiscent of Germany 1935, or Shari’a law, or a theocracy, or fascism. But it’s OK, it’s pro-gay.
I was in a JCP on Saturday on my way to something else in the mall. You literally could have set off an atom bomb in there and not hurt anybody.
For those of you in Rio Linda, Luke Ravenstahl is Pittsburgh’s Boy Mayor (affectionately referred to in these parts by Mayor Opie). The product of a long line of local Democrat apparatchiks, he popped out of college and into a seat on Pittsburgh City Council at age 26. Since the head-butting of egos created issues with electing a Council President, they all voted for Boy Luke thinking none of the others would vote for him. He therefore became the unwitting Council President, which means he took over as Mayor when the sitting Mayor died in office.
He is perhaps best known for his active par-tay life which caused his young wife to grab their one-year old and head for the hills. He is now spending money on a survey trying to figure out why gainfully employed young families move out of the city (well DUH!)
Why do I suspect that if you compared the list of anti-Chick-fil-A mayors, and the list of Bloomberg’s ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’, you would have an almost identical match?
Soon to play in a city near you: A church who will not support gay marriage will be closed.
Mark my words, this is frightening.
Don't forget to include the mosques in that.
According to the Chick Fil A site, there is a location inside the Pitt campus.
It seems that the Boy Mayor didn’t know about that one.
yes
