Barack Obama made a trip to Ireland when he became President, and he bragged about the Irish heritage that he has on his mother's side. In his first book, he wrote about visiting Kenya, to celebrate his father's Kenyan roots. Then why is Mitt Romney being given a hard time on his visit to England, when one of his advisers mentioned that Romney is proud of his Anglo-Saxon heritage? Romney should tell his non-Anglo critics that they are guests and freeloaders, living in a country (America) that was founded by Anglo-Saxons.
The Irish are cheered when they have their St. Patrick Day parades. The Italians, while they face some opposition from radical American Indians, are still able to celebrate Colombus' Day parades. The Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo and Caesar Chavez day, while Blacks have their Martin Luther King day and Black history month. Germans have their Steuben societies, and Armenians, Greeks, Jews, Poles, Koreans, Chinese, and other groups have their ethnic organizations.
What is wrong with Mitt Romney being proud of his Anglo-Saxon culture - the culture that gave us America? Most Americans who are not ethnic Anglo-Saxons, envy them greatly, and try to make them ashamed of their heritage. I am not Anglo-Saxon myself, but I am thankful for those people for creating the most free nations of the civilized world - Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and, of course - America - the finest creation of the Anglo-Saxon people.
We can all learn to read “Beowulf” in the original language.
The current progressive (socialist) cabal would have us be ashamed for our heritage. I tell them that they can kiss my Royal Irish Ass and bark at the moon!
I am an American, not a hyphenated American, and I am proud of that! I will not be ashamed of my heritage and I will not accept guilt for that which I did not do!
What say we celebrate our Saxon heritage, lads!
Actually, I’m not anglo. My mom was 100% German, and my old man was 100% Dutch. (there might have been a little bit of polock thrown in!)
So I guess that makes me a barbarian, something like that.
My ancestors came here because of the German “Kulturkampf” in Poznan.
Shut up, grab a beer and cheer when everybody else does.
Easy!
Oh, and grab another beer.
The Saxons themselves were interlopers who originally came from what is now Germany.
They, in turn, were victimized by interlopers from Normandy, who were the 3rd and 4th generations of viking invaders from Scandinavia that had successfully blackmailed the French out of some of their land.
The Scandinavian vikings probably came from what is now Finland and Russia which were, in turn, populated by invaders who came from the south and east of the areas located around the Black Sea and Turkish peninsula.
FUBO has overwhelmingly identified with blacks for years. Now he plays up his Anglo-Saxon heritage? Bugger off, FUBO, you are a tosser.
The language of invaders and interlopers. See my post #27. < / sarcasm >
Tell me about it! I'm Spanish, Italian, Irish, French Canadian, and Native American. On the other hand, I guess I can let myself in to quite a few celebrations...
Then, of course, some on the Right in America worship the Celts and have made Celtic identity and hostility to the "base, brutal, and bloody Saxon" the cornerstone of their claims to nationhood (the neo-Confederates, for example).
I had read that during the peak of the last ice age, the population of Europe was decimated, and worldwide, the human population fell to around 15,000 individuals.
Brutal!
People don’t seem to pay attention that the opposite of global warming is frozen tundra and cannibalism!
Hell yes!!!!!
Oh, btw, Leftists also understand this, which is why they are perpetually trying to obliterate our way of life. First they must break down traditional shared values in order to fundamentally transform us into something more to their liking.
If we don't respect our own values how can we preserve them?
Let's revive Old English the way the Zionists revived Hebrew! Yeah, baby! I've always wanted a funny sounding, impossible-to-learn language of my own. Everybody else has one.
To read the history of the border country in Scotland should be required reading for libertarians.
Anglo-Saxon on both sides here. One side by way of Puritan NE (1630), the other by way of Georgia (and yes, I know what that means). The Yankee branch was very active in the Revolutionary War and early Federalist administrations with a signer of “the Declaration” among them. The “Reb” branch were all small farmers. You’re darned right I’m proud of my ancestry.
I don’t have a single drop of Anglo-Saxon blood in my veins (that I know of anyway). We’ve been solid Italian for centuries.
But because this country welcomed my parents and this is where I was raised, I need to speak up in defense of a people whom I love, and who the politically idiots have despicably trashed.
It royally ticks me off when people in this country whose ancestry is of the British Isles think they need to go chasing after some pseudo African/Native American/Asian because they are just “boring old white people” or whatever. Like these Elizabeth Warren types. Who go chasing after a 1/64th blood quantum to hold on to some tiny scrap of being Indian as if all the Northern European didn’t matter.
Are you kidding me? Seriously? I’d count it an honor to be descended from the Anglos who founded this nation or to those literary or cultural giants who shaped it, like Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The AngloAmerican culture is not some cultural null value whose only purpose is to make you feel bad about yourself for not being something else. There is some great heritage there...and folks I am saying this as an *Italian*....and we don’t take a backseat to anyone in that respect! My parents learned your language, they became citizens, they love this country. My dad grew up in Italy loving stories of the Old West, which he finally had the privilege to visit himself some years back.
Don’t apologize for being Anglo. Be proud of it. Work to weed out the bad and cultivate the good, yes, but be proud of who you are.
I am proud for you. And I am not the only son of immigrants who is, that I can assure you.
