American voters are growing more polarized and locked in their views as they witness a presidential campaign that is boosting negative feelings about both candidates, a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Tuesday shows.
The poll also finds a resurgence of anxiety about the economy as job growth has slowed, though President Barack Obama maintains his edge on several fronts despite that. Half of registered voters feel less optimistic about the direction of the economy, with just 27% predicting the economy would improve over the next yeara sharp drop in optimism from recent months.
Still, coming in the wake of several weeks of intense TV campaign advertising, much of it negative, the poll of 1,000 registered voters found Mr. Obama leading his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, 49% to 43%, a gap mirrored precisely in four other Journal/NBC polls over the last year. The poll, conducted July 18-22, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Id have to agree sadly, hoping they come around. He isnt my ideal candidate but I will be damned if I have anything to do with putting Bam Bam back in office.

I hoped in ‘96 that the polls were wrong. You may be right, but this poll appears to be an outlier. The race is pretty close, and, by some accounts, Romney is ahead. The economy was doing a lot better in ‘96 than it is now.
This is pre-season, the real games begin after the conventions.
Two weeks before that same election that had Reagan a 10 or 11 point underdog.
If I recal, Reagan won 49 or the 50 states and was swept into office.
All these polls are to make the LIBERALS feel confident.
It won't change anything, however. Obama is history. You can see it coming.
I believe these polls ARE correct. With so many people collecting a check of one sort or another ... and O’Romney is just not that exciting of a candidate ... basically a white Bamster ... I can easily believe these polls to be true these days.
Its a poll of registered, not likely, voters.
We do not have to overcome polls - they are pure BS, as we saw this back during Reagan/Carter...we have to overcome now is voter fraud and an October surprise...what is the purple lipped bastard holding back on mittens? He got where he is by destroying his opponents before the election ever came about. Axelrod, Jarret, the MSM...all aligned...regardless, only voter fraud can overcome the American voice.
True but we aren’t the country we were when Reagan ran. The demographic shift scares me. The amount of kids who have been stepped in Marxist thought has grown exponentially and they are all of voting age.
REGISTERED voters. Poll is bunk.
The only polls that count are those of LIKELY voters, in “battleground states.” Pay attention to those.
Most of the Conservatives I've known in the 52 years since I have ardently followed politics, have been diplomatic, courteous and kind.
Most might have typed something like; "the WSJ/NBC poll is flawed" and gone on to say why.
You on the other hand, just bust it in my face; "the poll you posted is flawed" and refer me to other replys... Oh Thanks.
I have paid for the WSJ for 39 years... maybe it's because I have some respect for the Journal. But you are such a sophisticated analyst... you just laugh.
What is the national registration split as of July 2012?
Have you analyzed that?
When were you born?
Sorry for being such a grouch... Many years watching the decline of this electorate, and the culture from which it springs.
Whatever.
Speaking of which, I don't think I've asked how you expect Urban Meyer to do in Columbus (not counting this 'pre-season' year : - ), but feel free to weigh in if inclined.
(Note: Even though our prayer is "Jesus, come quickly," our role is to shine brightly. I'm not saying we should try to manipulate things in favor of darkness to get Him here sooner. That would be a true exercise in futility.)
I felt in my gut like Reagan would win early on - I don't remember what the polls were saying. Here, I don't feel as sure. Regan was smart and talked directly to the American people. Romney doesn't and probably doesn't know how, whereas Obama does and he's pretty good at it.
It is a tragedy that most Americans are very self indulgent and don’t have much inclination to study the issues. Issues are not high on their entertainment list. Most self indulgent Americans are not even thinking politics at this time. It is summer time and fun in the sun. Taking a poll survey is something they will avoid like the plague. Most will check their caller I.D. and not answer a pollster or any call with a mystery number. Those without caller I.D. are more likely to answer a pollster call. The demographic of these respondents, I suspect, are skewed Left.
But for now, it’s no time for useless phone calls or political programs. Even if they do start watching things (which is a big IF) it will be after the conventions for the entertainment value. That’s when the candidates start putting their big campaign money into to the media wars. Americans start paying attention because they love to see a mud fight. Too many will have listened to nothing political and will determine their vote for the most superficial of reasons. For all they are concerned, they could be voting for a Pet Rock.
It is too bad the American electorate is lazy, self-indulgent, misinformed and superficial.
You might want to check out the polls on Real Clear Politics. NBC/WSJ polls are almost always outliers. My guess is that NBC does the polling and WSJ, for reasons unknown to any of us, goes along. Their polling is consistently WAY more lib than any other polling group with the exception of Quinnipiac (Sp).
Lighten up. I did not say you are flawed. The WSJ/NBC poll that you posted is what is flawed. The internals clearly show a bias: + 11% Democrats is way out of line.
I am not laughing at you. I am laughing at this poll.
I happen to trust Rasmussen’s likely-voter tracking more than the NBC influenced registered-voter poll.
In answer to your question about my age, I vividly remember the 1960 conventions, debates and election.
obama has a following. Blacks, dimwits, morons, democrats, and the freeloaders.Oh ya, I forgot the illegals.
Government workers and welfare cases outnumber the working class and if they vote we’re screwed big time!
