His personal favorability, once a strong point for Obama, has vanished and is now being replaced by a personal dislike that is dragging him down.
These data, buried deep in the latest NY Times/CBS poll (of registered voters, not likely voters) are both stark and important. In April, Obama had a 42-45 favorable/unfavorable rating, itself a shock given his vastly higher favorable ratings only a few months before. Now, he has a favorable rating of only 36% and an unfavorable rating of 48%.
The NY Times poll showed Romney getting 47% of the vote compared to 46% for Obama (again, this poll is of registered voters, likely voter polls are more pro-Romney). So that means that one-quarter of Obamas voters do not give him a favorable rating a danger sign for the president.
What is most notable about this statistic is that it is not due primarily to the bad economy. While the Times poll showed that the percent of voters who feel he is doing a good job in handling the economy has dropped to 36%, Obamas ratings in this category have been low for some time. The drop in favorability is new.
Rather the cause of his decreased likeability is his negative campaigning, both in person and on the air. He is now no longer the sunny, optimistic, friendly person he portrayed himself as being in 2008. Instead, a nasty, surly, angry image has taken over.
This change is at the heart of Obamas dilemma. The more he goes negative, the more he hurts himself in the process and undermines the reservoir to good will that has sustained him through tough economic times.
As recently as one year ago, Obamas personal favorability was ten points above his vote share in most polls. Now it is ten points below it presaging further a likely further drop in his poll number
In 1980 Reagan was behind until the Sunday before the election....they rigged the polls till then and gave up on Sunday so they would not look like fools...
That’s a good ad, very damn good with Odumbo’s stupid remark imbedded inside as well.
They should have used his idiotic “you did not build that..” at the first 30 seconds for quick and immediate impact.
It’s a D+11 sample.
Seriously.

Scott Brown ad BUMP
"The more negative Obama gets the more desperate he appears."
I would add that it also forces him to spend lots more campaign cash as well, in an environment where his war chest ran a deficit for the month of June. . .
Well, ok. Expressed conversely, Obama now has a 64% un-favorability rating, which speaks volumes about the intelligence and integrity of the American people.
I think it's a 'cup half full - half empty' sort of thing. All depends on which way you want to look at it.
Just because I WANT this to be true does not mean it is false.
BINGO.
Just listen to the guy. He's petulant, arrogant, petty, juvenile, and weirdly combative. He doesn't sound anything like a president. What comes out of his mouth most days, sounds like something you'd expect from a typical OWSer on a college campus.
How many adults living in the real world can relate to, or find that attractive? Precisely none, because the man's projecting to the lowest common denominator: the gimme class.
At least Clinton maintained a semblance of dignity in the way he spoke to the American people on most occasions. He at least tried to convince us that he was everyone's president, which wasn't true, of course, but not altogether insulting.
Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have the capacity to even feign affinity for the other side. He honestly despises us, and it comes across in everything he says and does. It's a challenge that breeds contempt and animosity towards him, from a very large segment of the public.
Frankly, the many doesn't have what it takes to win. It's was never in him to begin with. To paraphrase; Obama didn't win the last election. Somebody else won that for him.
For the same reasons they've pursued their disastrous ideological goals in the real world. Belief is stronger than concrete results to these people. They're right - you're wrong - no matter what the actual results say.
Not bad. That's got merit, though I wouldn't make it the central stump message. Too dark. People want to see the sunrise again.
Later
Reportedly, his wife did. But she got over it. Quickly.

Covering the news at a weekly granularity. LOL!
I wouldn't know. I haven't listened to Mark since he became a flaming fan girl for Romney.
couldn’t happen to a nicer guy...
“And I think Romney is doing ok. Not great, but ok.”
I have a feeling he’s laying relatively low now and will come out like gangbusters after the conventions. I hope. He needs a few more Sununu plain talkers; enough with the pussy-footing spinmeisters.
But, but, but, if you love me you would, give me all your money to fund crack heads on food stamps, you would work all day to give drunks and addicts a “fair” shot, you would cut the national defence to nothing because the world is at peace, you would hate all business as the evil of the world, you would realise that you did nothing on your own even though your hard earned tax money built the roads at 10 times the normal cost a private sector company could build it, and you would be comfortable with National debt above our ability to pay it, you would embrace ‘arab spring in your neighborhood...on and on..no we think Obamma mamba jamma lenin khomeini sucks..
Obammmma is vile..
Absolutely! Why doesn't Idi Obama run on his accomplishments?
Oh, wait.....
