I have watched Fox News since 1998 and have seen alot of ups and downs with Bill O'Reilly, but tonight's talking points memo of "The Factor" were so full of falsehoods and misconceptions that I need the banglist gang to write in to this pinhead.
O'Reilly's talking points was on the 2nd Amendment, Guns, and Murder. He generally made some good points on the purpose of the 2nd Amendment and the fact that gun control doesn't work. However he went WAY off the reservation and bought into the liberal journalist LIES of the misconceptions between legal, semi-automatic firearms, and their fully automatic, highly regulated (and even restricted) military counterparts.
Here are his quotes:
1) "Anyone who sells a heavy weapon or ammunition should be compelled to report the sale to the FBI".
This is completely false. First there is no such thing as a "heavy weapon" reporting criteria. Every Federal Firearm License (FFL) holder must conduct a FBI NICS check on all transactions of Title 1 firearms.
2) "Some gun dealers do background checks, but NOBODY reports the sale of heavy weapons like the AK-47, to the feds".
Another completely false statement. ALL gun dealers are required to do background checks via the FBI's NICS system. Only those with concealed firearms permits, or doing an NFA transfer don't get the call (because they have already been "checked out"). If the firearms is a Title 2 firearm under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (machinegun, suppressor (aka silencer), destructive device, short barrel shotgun, short barrel rifle, or Any Other Weapon (AOW)) then the purchaser has to pay a $5 or $200 transfer tax, submit complete, perfect ATF forms, fingerprints, pictures, and get their local law enforcement officer to sign off. After the administrative prerequisites are met, the ATF does a background check and will issue a tax stamp and list the legal registered user in their NFA database after about 6-8 months.
3) "Terrorists could move in here and buy bazookas and the FBI doesn't know about it"
My wife and I about fell out of our chair when he said this....yes, he said it! The statement is so ignorant and emotional that I am suprised that it made it past his staff, whom is usually good at research.
As you can see, Bill is bluring the line between true military assault rifles, and their civilian, semi-automatic clones...a very clever and effective, yet dishonest tactic perpetrated by anti-gun forces. I am starting to think that the liberals may not ban semi-autos with another "Assault Weapon Ban 2", but something more sinister such as re-defining firearms into the NFA and reclassifying all firearms as "destructive devices" and subject to all the NFA red tape.
There is precident for this: Streetsweeper and USAS-16 shotguns were reclassified in the past and they are now contraband unless you went through the Form 4 process and transfer taxes paid to ATF.
Anyways....I'm trying to formulate a pithy response without losing my temper, tact, or candor.
I know that Freepers, especially the BANGLIST guys can really get the message going.
Be sure to oreilly@foxnews.com and give him your name and hometown if you wish to opine.
I have always felt that O’Reilly was a closet liberal and I totally believe he voted for Obama.
I bet O’Reilly gets lots of mail on this one.
Why anyone takes him serious is laughable........
BOR is a POS.
Hopefully my Freeper banglist buddies fire off an email and put Bill back on target (puns intended).
It would be nice if O'Reilly published pithy comments and apologized for the the mistakes and issued an on-air correction to his ignorant, VPC/Brady bait.
I was shocked when I heard his talking points as well. I’m very surprised he was that far off, knowing the background checks I had to go to. The comment about the bazooka really underscored his ignorance on the issue. I’m sure he’ll get a lot of mail over this one. I hope he admits his failure to check the facts.
I haven’t watched that pompous ass since August of 2004 when he crapped on the Swift Boat Veterans and POWs for Truth. I’d sooner watch Hanoi Jane.
Just do what i did. Turn off the TV. If enough of us do this, it will change
The Lord of the Luffa doesn’t care about truth, he cares about attention.
When he says something outrageous or simply stupid, he gets new viewers and then he goes on to call his detractors pin heads or whatever asinine word his research team pulls out of their fundament.
If you ever expect anything else from the bombastic windbag, you’ll be sorely disappointed.
In his defense, if it hadn’t been for that pesky 2nd Amendment, US troops wouldn’t have massacred innocent Germans at Malmedy during WWII. /s
Thanks Thanks DCBryan1.

I can’t stand him,but I occasionally watch him so’s I can call him a jerk.
I could not stand his radio show and how he constantly harassed E.D.Hill/Lis Whiel about wearing and modeling wet t-shirts for him.It was in that time frame he was accused of sexual harassment and settled quietly.(that suit brought on by an un-named woman)
Tonight he blabbed with Bernie about what a wonderful reporter Brian Ross is.Yes,Brian, you are stupid-endous!!!!!
O’Reilly is getting ratings and these I’m not sure who is watching him.
Hell, I turned the channel after that loudmouthed shrill sounding Juan Williams went into bizarro mode.
But, Bill must be getting feedback from his ratings that high pitched losers are good for revenue.
It’s getting so I turn the channel whenever Juan is on anymore.
I liked him when he didn’t worked for PBS.
Anymore, I think all the back and forth and high pitched voices for guests on Hannity and O’Reilly are going to the same school and told to say whatever they can to get attention.
It’s boring.
Just give me that old-fashioned simplicity, please.
Leni
Been almost 2 years since I watched FoxNews and I don’t miss it at all ESPECIALLY Blowreilly who’s a pompous, know-it-all who thinks he’s above everyone else and we’d all be better off listening to him. Now that’s laughable.......:)
