There is already conjecture that James Holmes may have been involved in mind-altering neuroscience research and ended up becoming involved at a depth he never anticipated. His actions clearly show a strange detachment from reality, indicating he was not in his right mind. That can only typically be accomplished through drugs, hypnosis or trauma (and sometimes all three).

This chap was, seemingly, successfully (until that final semester) pursuing a doctorate in an area (PTSD if the associated government grant is an accurate reflection) which upon completion would have catapulted him far beyond McDonald’s in a career. What PTSD patient would not want to have happier memories? He’d have been a real Dr. Feelgood to them had he been able to get memories of more pleasant things than harrowing war experiences to dominate their minds.
Threw it all away on living out a crazy fantasy in a wicked, wicked way. (I mean if he wanted to make a scene in a movie theater there would have been ways that didn’t kill or wound anybody.) Occam’s Razor suggests that he simply went nuts. But as is being suggested we can’t logically rule out some baleful influence in his life which helped egg him on to this point.

The fact that there is a tie doesn't answer the cause/effect relationship, if any. It could be that because we're all monitored a hell of a lot more than we like to believe, that it's unsurprising that these individuals would come to the attention of the psychiatric profession. Given what we know our government is capable of, I wouldn't particularly be shocked at them considering the death of a few to be a worthwhile price to pay to advance an agenda they believe is important.

That’s a phenomenon I haven’t heard about. In the bible, Joseph and Daniel both carried the Lord’s power to interpret others’ dreams, sometimes without being told. Can the devil horn in on this process, I don’t know and would consider it quite unwise to inquire into it.
You are not going to look at investigations in progress, because academics steal from other academics to publish first, and thus blight another's career in boosting one's own. Some academics have poorer ethical standards than common thieves. Examples:
Once I worked with an Egyptian who had notes from his projects copied, elaborated on by a couple of discriminating experiments, then submitted and published by a contemporary. From then on, all his notes and compositions were recorded in a sort of Arabic shorthand.
In my industrial work, I achieved some fine results, and included them and related photography in a monthly report. A fellow scientist (a product of Hebrew University and Brown University) collaborated with a salesman and a product manager to gain trials of samples that he made, faking my data and photographs beyond my knowledge, as his accomplishments. He got his submissions accepted, and claimed to be the inventor. I only found out by accident, but by then I was on the surplus list, while he kept his job.
The ordinary citizen has no idea of the politics, pressures, and privacy of academic and industrial scientists.
You are probably never going to get access to ongoing experimental work, regardless of how its prospectus is described. Why do you think you ought to have access?? Hmmm?

I believe I'm in very safe territory in saying, "it wouldn't be the first time the Government withheld the truth from the public because it wasn't flattering to the Government."

Maybe Holmes went early with real ammo ... and they didn’t catch him in time. Who’d believe F&F if it hadn’t leaked out?

Yep, and we won’t be able to ask them, for the most part. If there was someone out there tinkering with their gray matter beforehand, they aren’t talking about it either.
