Christie tapped as keynote speaker for Republican convention
MSNBC ^ | 7-19-12 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 07/18/2012 6:02:41 PM PDT by kingattax

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will deliver the keynote address at next month's Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL.

NBC News' Jamie Gangel reported Wednesday that Christie would be afforded the plum speaking slot at the convention, a gig that sometimes serves as a launching pad for political figures with ambitions of higher office. The selection of Christie, though, would seem to suggest that Christie is not likely the choice by Mitt Romney to serve as the GOP's vice presidential nominee.

Typically, the keynote speaker is separate from the vice presidential nominee, who, like the presidential nominee, speaks on separate nights.

Republicans have not yet released a detailed itinerary of the speaking schedule for their convention.

“Just make sure the podium is over a major support beam...”

Yeah...thank goodness Obama never needed a support beam...

does that make him better? Just askin’....

Why aren’t they afraid Christie won’t go rogue?

“I am pro-life, I believe in exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother. That’s my position, take it or leave it.”

That makes him pro-life in a pragmatic sense. A small percentage of abortions are for rape, incest and life of the Mother. I bet 1% or less. Having said all that ... none of that matters. The question for Christie or any of these politicians ... is whether they would appoint judges capable of overturning Roe v Wade. They can be pro-life all they want inside but if they appoint liberal judges it is meaningless.

Then I think giving him the moniker "pro-abort" would be in error.

I agree on Supreme Court question. He's not running for president, so that question remains.

"But, I’ve never heard he is a dynamic speaker. Anyone know?

They don't get much if any better.

I can barely bring myself to read FR any more. Every thread concerning any GOP candidate, conservative or not, male or female, fat or thin, young or old instantly brings out the resident haters, cynics, nay-sayers, name-callers, pessimists, smearers and potty-mouths spreading their poison and snarks.

The threads quickly fill up with their one-liners and their posts which are totally devoid of content, ideas, new information or reasoned debate.

I'm tired of it.

NO ONE is acceptable as a keynote speaker to these malcontents unless it would be one of their GOP candidates that didn't make the cut.

Since their favorites didn't make it, we have to deal with their rage on just about every thread on just about every subject on just about every day until the convention, then every day till the election.

It's disgusting.

Here's an idea... If you are going to be a keynote speaker at a conservative political rally, maybe you should actually be... A CONSERVATIVE.

Or are we going to stop pretending that the GOP is "conservative"?

pfft...then your not pro-life..why bother claiming it?..oh, of course, for political expedience.

Why is a baby that was conceived in a hateful/ignorant act less deserving of life and liberty? how can such cognitive dissidence be swallowed and labeled "pro-life"? sorry, but it just seems so 1990s..

Dang!!! Sarah Palin would have been great in that slot. But, she pissed off Romney during the Primary season. I hope she’ll get a speaking slot somewhere in the Convention.

It’s called the Republican National Convention; not Conservative Political Rally. All Republicans are not Conservative. Making a statement like you did, makes you look a little ignorant.

I agree with you on rape. What about the ‘life of the mother’ part?

You said that so well, MinuteGal. And I am so glad someone said it. I am more than pleased with Christie as speaker. I do not have to agree with everything a politician supports or does not support. I respect and like Christie. Thank you again for your post.

It is his opinion he is pro life. That is his opinion. He is entitled to it. You are entitled to yours. You are not entitled to tell him what he is. He knows it well. You make your decisions. Let others make theirs.

Me too. Remember her at the 2007 Convention? Our family was vacationing in Alaska at the time. Fantastic!

I have to agree with you. Spiro Agnew coined the phrase "nattering nabobs of negativism" and those are certainly in abundance here.

I'm a big fan of Sarah Palin and I wish she was speaking as the nominee...but she DIDN'T RUN! Like it or not, it's Mitt's show.

First, as Dead Corpse pointed out, Christie’s a gun-banner. A non-starter for almost any conservative.

> I believe in exceptions for rape, incest

Yes, of course. And what did the baby do to deserve being executed in the womb, or in the natal canal, being burned alive by saline solutions and/or being pulled apart limb from limb, or being decerebrated by having a hole bored in the skull and sucking the brains out.

> and the life of the mother.

Naturally. This has been interpreted to mean any and every excuse for murdering gestate babies.

> That’s my position, take it or leave it.

I’ll leave it. You can have it.

This thread has caused me to do some research on these issues and Christie, first abortion, then gun control, immigration and energy.

I think he should stay in N.J. :)

And I hope, if he is the keynote, he keeps his remarks to economics.

thanks for your post.

It’s going to be a RINO Fest, and all conservative voters will have to “take it”! Four to eight years of “President Mitt Romney” will be terrible for the country, too, so how is the U.S. not finished and not heading for third world socialism, no matter who is POTUS?

The left will, continuously, make fun of Christie being fat, in order to distract from any positive messages that he might have.
