George Zimmerman released from jail

SANFORD -- George Zimmerman walked out of jail once again Friday.

Judge Kenneth Lester set Zimmerman’s bond at $1 million Thursday, and Zimmerman was able to post it.

Zimmerman had to go through a bail bondsman, and pay 10 percent of the bond amount, which is $100,000.

O’Mara said the online legal defense fund set up for Zimmerman currently has $211,000.

However, in order for Zimmerman to be released, he has to have $1 million in collateral, which O’Mara said the Zimmerman family does not have.

"We paid $15,000 initially for the first bail fee, so an additional fee of $85,000 would have to be paid to post this new bond, assuming we can work out the collateral issue," O'Mara said.

This doesn't jive

FYI - A common misuse of the work "jive", which means loose or foolish talk. The correct word is "jibe".

“When and if he is acquitted it’ll be another Rodney King loot and burn weekend.”

If they try that in my neighborhood I will protect my property.

No. Zimmerman was an idiot - he lied under oath about his financial situation. Funny thing about courts, when you swear to tell the truth; and then tell a flat-out lie, then afterwards are on a monitored phone in prison and discuss your lies - the courts seem to frown on that.

In a case where so much of Zimmerman’s defence relies upon his word (as well as physical evidence, drug tests on Trayvon, dective reports) - providing the Prosecution ammunition for a witch-hunt is just bone-headed stupid.

If you or I were being tried, and we lied to the judge about our financial situation with regard to bail - it’s quite likely the same events would happen to us.

The fact that this is even going to trial, that the Prosecution is ignoring the facts - is just race baiting. And, hopefully just like previous Prosecutors who made policical decisions and ignored the facts (Duke LaCross team, for example), the odds are fair that the Prosecutor will find himself fired, debarred and thrown out on his butt (as, IMHO, he so richly deserves).

But, Zimmerman lied, and for this is being punished - in accordance with the law. Perhaps this portion of his story is the only portion that has legal merit. The fact that he is even being charged is, IMHO, entirely bogus.

That’s what the bail bondsman is for.
(The story is poorly written...)

But they will still serve to pauperize the Zimmermans.

The goal here is to set an example with them, pour encourages les autres.

The persecutor declined the offer.

Even tho' it's a typo, it's still more accurate than the intended word. This is definitely a persecution.

gee, so bail is punitive?

the judge decides the amount of bail based on a decision how much to punish the defendant and how to seize his assets

the defendant- who is presumed to be an innocent person (until proven guilty)

I always thought bail was set to ensure the public was protected from dangerous people being out on the streets (ie repeat or heinous offenders endangering the public) and to ensure a defendant would show up for trial

thanks for enlightening us

No, he didn't. See post 20 in this thread.

Do you also believe that Martin was the fresh faced 12 year old portrayed in the initial reports by the MSM.

You really need to start paying attention

Good!

Every minute GZ was in jail was an affront to justice. The Obama/Sharpton Lynch Mob is out for this guy, and I hope like hell he beats them in court. Of course, with a prosecutor out to placate the screaming posers, who knows what will happen?

George's bloody head, broken nose and black eyes are all the proof needed that he was defending himself.

St. Skittles would still be free to sell pot and smack bus drivers around if he hadn't picked a fight with George.

What lie did Zimmerman actually tell the judge? And be specific, don’t just tell us what MSNBC and NBC told you he said.

I don't think I can agree with that. If I were Zimmerman, I wouldn't have considered that my money, to do with as I pleased. I would view it as other people's money, who were volunteering to help pay my lawyer.

Since when is bail based on a "means" test. It's none of the judges damn business.

And considering the death threats....he's entitled to flee. Damn right....

What is wrong with starting the lawsuit process against them NOW? Drag Sharpton into court. Jackson, too. They’ve been out making speeches attacking him, a private citizen, and basically calling him guilty of murder.

Make ‘em pay or at least have to pay tons of lawyers to defend their bad behavior.

Being logical will get you nowhere on a Zimmerman thread. It’s all a conspiracy of epic proportions. Pretend it’s an Obama ordered lynching and you will fit right in.

Crazy ain't it? This judge has displayed an alarming level of prejudice against Zimmerman, so much so, that he should be removed from the bench for it.
