SANFORD -- George Zimmerman walked out of jail once again Friday.

Judge Kenneth Lester set Zimmerman’s bond at $1 million Thursday, and Zimmerman was able to post it.

Zimmerman had to go through a bail bondsman, and pay 10 percent of the bond amount, which is $100,000.

O’Mara said the online legal defense fund set up for Zimmerman currently has $211,000.

However, in order for Zimmerman to be released, he has to have $1 million in collateral, which O’Mara said the Zimmerman family does not have.

"We paid $15,000 initially for the first bail fee, so an additional fee of $85,000 would have to be paid to post this new bond, assuming we can work out the collateral issue," O'Mara said.

It’s disgusting that this case has received the publicity it has. How many brutal murders have taken place in this country since this incident that have never been reported?

I’m readying my flame-resistant suit, but I’m gonna go against the CW here and say the judge made an appropriate call in raising the bail.

Let me state for the record I believe Zimmerman acted in self-defense the night of the shooting. Furthermore, I believe he will eventually be acquitted. But it’s also pretty clear-cut he and his wife were not honest with the court about their finances. Lying to a judge is a BAD idea, and carries consequences. On top of that, hiding money makes you look like a potential flight risk. The Zimmermans put themselves behind the 8-ball on this one.

If you ever use your firearm in self defense, no matter how justified you believe you may be, NEVER talk to the cops without a lawyer at your side. If Zimmerman had immediately exercised his 5th amendment rights it’s unlikely that we’d even have known about this outside of Sanford.

They never lied to a judge, you’re repeating a lie.

In court, Shelly Zimmerman testified that she didn’t know exactly how much was in the account, as the account was controlled by Zimmerman’s brother. She offered, in court, to get the brother on the phone. The persecutor declined the offer. No lie was ever made about how much was in the account. The perjury charges against her won’t stick.
