Romney Campaign Declares Cease Fire on Health Care.

July 3, 2012 Romney Campaign Declaring Cease Fire on Health Care Posted by Staff

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court health care ruling, the early conventional wisdom was that an unfavorable health care ruling at the court would be good for Republicans politically, even as it was a serious policy setback for conservatives. But that's not shaping up to be the case. Mitt Romney, after giving a brief statement decrying the decision, has been virtually silent on criticizing the health care law. He's been on vacation and his campaign has been giving off clear signals that it doesn't want to make health care a major part of the election.

His senior adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, went on MSNBC Monday and ended up agreeing with the Obama campaign's spin that, even though the Supreme Court declared the individual mandate a tax, it really still is a penalty. Significantly, his campaign appears to want to take the most potent argument against the president on the health care subject off the table, likely out of fear the Romney himself is vulnerable when it comes to his health care record. He, after all, supported a mandate as governor of Massachusetts, and doesn't want that to be considered a tax, either.

It's the ECONOMY, stupid!

As someone already mentioned, Mitt will have his surrogates to remind the voters about ObamaTax.

That’s his position on the matter.

Romney doesn't mean a word of it. He's a well-known liar who will say anything to get elected. You know that, Scott.

Huh? How about pointing out that obama fraudently passed a health care bill based on taxes and broke his pledge not to raise taxes on people with incomes below $250k. The president lied. Isn’t that worth pointing out? If not what is?

Sure he can. The Congress is sworn in first week of January. The president is sworn in the third week. The House and Senate both can vote to repeal as soon as they are sworn & Romney can sign the bill on his first day. How am I wrong about this?

Yeah. It's just a shame the surrogates aren't running for President.

Honestly, anyone who is surprised by this just hasn’t been paying attention. Or is delusionally optimistic.

Everything obama does goes unchallenged. What is one more thing? Because he can and thus far the Republican Party has not had the balls and guts to stand up to him. And I do not forsee anything to change in the future.

In other words, we are on our own. Soon we will see what we are made of.

IIRC, Romney said he would “act to repeal” it, not that he would actually repel it.

Breaking wind is more like it.

True conservatism has lost the ‘12 POTUS race, already, with the two remaining, major ‘12 POTUS candidates being socialist Barack Obama and socialist-lite Mitt Romney. :(

Obviously the real priority here on FR is to make sure Obama is re-elected.

Rasmussen's poll says that Conservative anger is "stratopheric" over the ruling.

Why would Romney walk away from that kind of anger, when he can channel the energy into a platform that he can lead?

Romney needs to build a slate of candidates that can run together to take back the Senate.

He'd be foolish to not take advantage of any breaks that fall his way. Why doesn't he just declare that he's suspending his campaign to go to Washington to try to solve the problem now?

All the ABO Romneybots are about to get the bucket of ice water in the face. And this is even BEFORE he gets elected.

Pay close attention:

It's a shame Romney is such a repellant candidate.

Not in the sense that he'll actually repeal anything, of course. Rather, that he repels his own base.

Shoot, that seems to be the real priority for the Romney campaign, too...

IIRC, GW Bush signed a freeze on all of Clintons last minute EOs and regulations between the swearing in and the Congressional luncheon. The new President always has paperwork to sign immediately after assuming the office. So long as the waivers are prepared in advance all it takes is a swipe of the pen.

The article is 50% bullcrap. Both Romney and Obama are on vacation. We have the one comment by an advisor that agrees with Scalia and the dissent that it is an unconstitutional mandate.

Romney is on record many many times that he will revoke Obamacare. I can’t say whether his campaign will handle the issue any more adroitly but this is being hyped at the present time.

I have to agree/ disagree that Romney should stay focused on the economy. Certainly a presidential campaign can focus on a few major issues.

He's not walking away and that is exactly what he is doing.

The world is filled with liars, as is this forum, unfortunately.

Perhaps you are one of them?
