Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election now that Mitt has won the GOP race,
I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who have hesitation on that score, Id just ask you to keep four things in mind: 1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78 2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year 3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August 4.. Justice Ginsburg just turned 81. We wish them all well, of course, but the brute fact is that whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come. If you dont think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think youre smokin something funky ... So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didnt get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win, imagine this: SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER or CHUCK SCHUMER or HILLARY CLINTON.
I had predicted many times on FR that if Mitty was the R nominee, there would be a Tea Party challenger on the ballot in most red states leading to Baraq winning with a Clintonian plurality similar to 1992.
Apparently that isn’t going to happen.
Doesn’t matter, All of our elected officials and their appointees are part of the problem. We the people continue to elect assholes to office and they continue to appoint assholes. What is the problem with understanding that?
Yes, most people have no idea about politics and politicians and their effect on government.
Stupid people raised by stupid parents raised by stupid teachers - stupid people.
We are to blame is my guess!
Every poll (except the FIXED ones owned by BAIN and Soros)
show that OBAMA trounces Romney-the-CHOSENLOSER.
Bishop RomneyCARE is LOSING NOW, and the MSM
has not even begun.
While I understand (and to some degree agree with) your concern, my choice is to support our nominee.
Until next time.
We’ll get ‘em next time. Ok?
Get it all out of your system, but make the break on November 6th (I believe) to vote for Mitt.
Thanks. :D
Baraq only had 53% last time looking like a conquering hero with his Greek columns.
Now he can’t even get a Democrat outside of Ca, Il, or Ny to appear on stage with him.
I’m not nearly as convinced he’s a shoe-in.
The MSM may not have begun, but Mitty’s Mormon army hasn’t cranked up yet either.
We will NOT vote for the lying Romney who
has delivered already BY HIS FIAT RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE
and SO MUCH MORE.
If you are satisfied as he lies about it, FRiend,
then may your brain see the truth in time.
There is a coven of troll BO supporters who attack anyone who dares suggest anything but slavish love and adoration for voting for him.
How did Romney win the primary? He got more votes than the other guys. If one of the other guys had garnered more votes, than he or she would have been the nominee. They all had a fighting chance. Romney won.
Yeah, he had more money. And his money bought organization who could do the job. Back in the 1950s, the NY Yankees won the AL pennant every year except 1954 and 1959. The Yankee organization was the richest, they could afford to buy the best players from the minors and from other teams. That’s life.
So what’s your point? Should we vote for Obama then?
Would judges like Scalia and Thomas have been confirmed by the Mass legislature?
Good post. This is one of those elections where the choice is not between good or bad, but between the bad and the really, really bad.
This is not the time to send the GOP elite a message (like they'd listen anyway). For the sake of the next generation, we must rally around Romney.
I just never believed it would come to that....
If Mr. Romney DOES NOT RALLY AROUND CONSERVATIVES
IMMEDIATELY and RENOUNCE ROMNEY Death Panels
and ROMNEY Taxes and ROMNEYCARE/OBAMACARE
then Mr. Romney is not to be trusted.
This same piece of crap has already been posted within the past few weeks, in the guise of an ‘email’ received by a poster, who then happily posted it as a ‘vanity’ because the poster couldn’t even come up with any original material.
The fake justification about the age of the existing justices on the SCOTUS is total bullshit, and all one needs to do is to first, consider the fact that Romney’s record when it comes to appointing judges during his term as Governor in Assachusetts strongly suggests that his choices will be in the future, as they were then, i.e., he will pick LIBERALS, liberals who will be not much different than the likes of Krazy Kagen and the ‘Wise Latina’.
Second, look at what Romney’s own website is saying, that as President “he would appoint judges like Chief Justice John Roberts”, oh now that’s a real howler there pal, or didn’t you notice that?
If you wanted to spare yourself some embarrassment, ask the mod to yank this unoriginal and repetitive thread.
Given Mitt Romneycare’s picks when he was governor, not one of those mentioned sounds like someone Mitt would not also pick.
If Romney wins in the fall it’ll be better than a 0bama win, of course, but he’ll find some kind of “mandate” that the voters never intended and he’ll do some kind of Socialism-lite garbage and be a one-termer and the dems will win in 2016 regardless of who they run.
Your term “handbasket drivers” is a great phrase that unfortunately rings too true.
The communist party, the homosexuals, and the abortion lobby all thank you both for your vote and your enthusiastic opposition to everyone who will not bow before them.
I used to foolishly believe that the party in control of the Presidency mattered when it came to judicial appointments.
That was BJR (Before John Roberts) though.
You make a good point. It seems that the GOP justices make sure that at least one of them sides with the despots on the really important decisions. It’s almost like we are being deceived into believing that the Dems and the GOP have a different end game in mind.
Excellent turn of the phrase. I just wish that I would have thought of it first!
We have to rally around Romney. But as you said, Romney must first rally around us.
it’s like a bad echo that comes around every 4 years.
and should Willard actually claw his way to the WH, dont forget that fellow Harvard Law School grad Barak Obama would then be available to be nominated to the SC...
and dont think for one mo that Willie Mitty would hesitate to appoint him...
It has been done before ...the WH to the SC..
and then of course there is Harry Reid...
Mitt wears magic undies, he’s da man.
He’s a pragmatist. If the conservatives get a landslide in the election he’d be an idiot not to dance with those who brought him to the dance.
