I ran into a prominent conservative member of Congress Friday night just before the huge storms moved through Washington. He was, he said, far angrier on the day after the Supreme Court Obamacare decision than he had been the moment he learned Chief Justice John Roberts had joined the Courts liberal bloc to uphold the individual mandate at the heart of Obamacare. He didnt resort to histrionics or profanity, but he was spitting mad and his anger was growing, not diminishing.
A short time later, I saw another conservative lawmaker who said much the same thing. And yet another conservative leader who was in the same frame of mind.
At the same time, a backlash was forming in response to analyses by some formidable conservative writers George Will, Charles Krauthammer, and others who argued the Obamacare decision was actually a victory for conservatives because it placed a limit on expansive interpretations of the Constitutions Commerce Clause. In the Wall Street Journal, Berkeley law professor and former Bush Justice Department official John Yoo called such silver-lining analyses hollow hope and wrote that Obamacare is precisely the disaster for conservatives it appears to be

You have no idea what you are talking about.
Roberts, and the rest of the liberals on the court, are wrong.
Thomas, Scalia and the others are correct.
For the first time in the history of our nation the Supreme Court has ruled a penalty a tax.
If you are going to post on this subject don’t you think you should, at the least, read a synopsys of the opinion and the dissent?
Is it? The Constitution grants Congress only four areas in which taxes can be levied: excise, impost, direct and income. Nowhere does it allow taxation for a negative action. This tax is nothing less than a tax on liberty.
Should the law stand, I expect that argument to be made in the courts, but they can’t make it yet until they actually start collecting the tax. I suspect this is why Ginsburg was so upset. Roberts might have screwed them royally.
Big deal. Roberts just opened a passage around the enumerated powers (our safeguard against tyranny) that is far bigger and wider than even the commerce clause.
It would be awesome if there was a well-established online conservative news discussion and grassroots activism forum where people could get together to harness this conservative anger and channel it into support for those candidates up and down the ballot who have publicly committed to repealing Obamacare.
Anybody know of one of those?
Does it really matter any more? The SCOTUS tore up the social contract between government and the citizenry.
Go ahead. Elect 100% Tea Party activists into every position. Doesn't change the facts of the SCOTUS ruling.
Since Obama took office, the left has won every single important political battle - even after the 2010 elections.
If I were a lib, I’d be laughing, smiling and flipping everyone the bird too. No one has stopped them.
Everyone thinks Obama is going to lose? Everyone thought Obamacare would be struck down too.
This plan would hinge on a Romney victory.
Free Republic is opposed to that.
“Roberts is right”
Roberts is scum who WROTE law from the bench. He is wrong legally and otherwise.
The House reps did but the dems lock on the Senate stops damn near everything
We need the Senate in 12
The key is, IF they get the power, they have to repeal it, or the base will run and they will loose worse than 2006/08. They know it. A quick repeal and a sensible replacement, with STRONG TORT REFORM, will win them 20 years of dominance in DC
It is all about power, the Republicans want it back, if they get It back they damn well want to keep it. The only way to do that is to deliver.
The people I talk to are angry (in my circle of friends & family).
My mother's doctor almost had a stroke on Thursday when I took her for an appointment, I mean he was red faced and over the top livid.
That being said, all I see are the Liberals spiking the football, pointing to polls proclaiming the November election is over before it began.
Now I know most of those polls are skewered. I know allot of Americans are pissed over this. But outside of my small circle, I am not seeing the rage, not seeing the anger. I do not think I am alone.
For over a month Obama had one peice of bad news after another, it was crushing him and last weeks Supreme Court decision seems to be like a helium tank shoved up arse. I would "feel" better if there were another series of Tea Party rallies coast to coast. Something to show other like minded people we are not alone in this fight.
Don't make excuses for the twit Roberts. He is an enemy of the people and of all who love freedom.
Your foolish post hurts all opponents of Obamacare, and damages FR.
That battle will be to elect Mitt Romney, even if he wasn't your first choice, to the Presidency, and any Republican who commits to REPEAL Obamacare, to the House and Senate.
This lawless decision has flung the doors wide for any and all forms of fascist dictates from the prick Obama and the Democrats and Republicans in the government.
I don't want the Republicans to REPLACE Obamacare with their own big government version of healthcare. They need to start looking at free market options NOW!
