Responsibility (1st Ever Vanity)
Me | 6/29/12 | AMNTN

Everyone knows and understands the meaning of responsibility as being responsible for our own actions. We reap what we sow. There is, however, another side to responsibility and that is taking things as they are and making them work.

When my dad was eighteen years old, in 1940, it was discovered he had a brain tumor. He was told he had 6 months to live. They also told him there was a new type of surgery that he could try but he would only have a 10% chance of survival. He opted for the surgery anyway and passed away just last month at the age of 90.

The surgery left his left arm paralyzed and a hole in his skull with just a skin covering. So there he was, through no fault of his own, faced with trying to begin an adult life with one good arm and head he had to protect at all times. He could have just felt sorry for himself and been mad at his situation and blamed the world for it but he didn’t. He assessed the situation he found himself in and took responsibility for the hand he had been dealt.

I see this SCOTUS decision as the same type of thing. We can moan and cry that it’s awful and not our fault. We can blame Roberts, Obama, and all of the democrats. We can continue to bemoan the situation we find ourselves in or we can take responsibility for it and take action.

Conservatives believe in responsibility but is it only the kind where people are responsible for their own actions or is it all kinds?

I am ready to take responsibilty for the situation we are in and do everything in my power to get Obama and the democrats out of office. Are you?

What an amazing man your Dad was!

America is in this position because the American people have allowed it. America has the collective abhorrent sin of abortion—millions of pre-born babies—on our hands. America has embraced debauchery and homosexuality—this is in general, but the whole nation is paying the price. We are headed down the road to tyranny, and it’s our own fault.

Good post. The Supreme Court (yes, those bastards) has ruled that freedom is for “belligerent claimants,” and not for sunshine patriots. Google belligerent claimant, then get off of your arse and do something... Today people!

Excellent post. There are a few here who will flame you, but they cannot or will not accept the fact that we got to where we are incrementally and that is how we need to get out of this situation.

The ruling yesterday is can be the springboard to progress if we are willing to work towards the defeat of progressivism and socialism, or failure, if we are apathetic.

The bitchers on this forum will fall into apathy in a "prinicpled conservative manner". I for one, am going to fight for my country and our way of life!

I think one of our problems has been that we have elected republicans and then just expected everything to take care of itself. We have not held their feet to the fire but we also have failed them by letting liberals demonize them.

I say it is time we take ownership of our government before and after the election.

Good for your Father and I agree that Obam musst go. But to what end.

When we have a Roberts, appointed by Bush, on the court, Or a Suttyer, or a John Paul Stevens, All appointed by center right Republican presidents, What the hell is the point.

The Left NEVER gets it wrong all their justices are Left wing activists. Only half of ours end up being Leftists. what a great rallying cry. Vote for, we get it right half the time.

Thank you, NO! I think absolute scorched Earth is the only plausible path. WE MUST START IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDURES OF THE COURT! It is THE check on the court by the legislature and the people!

Beyond that we live in a lawless society, you will never win the fight if you are on the only side that follows the rules!

Thanks. My dad always said that people complain when they feel helpless to do anything about the problem. He taught me not to be a complainer but to be a doer.

This is "the only plausible path"?

Sounds like somebody has been up all night drinking.

You have discovered that leftist justices (like leftists in general) operate under no principle other than embracing whatever advances collectivism, while conservative jurists actually judge cases on their merits and sometimes end up disagreeing with one another.

Yes, it's kind of asymmetrical and inconvenient not being utterly cynical, isn't it?

Well, that's life. See the Bible for details.

In the meantime we have an election coming up and repeal of Obamacare will be on the ballot. You just have to figure out how to operate the thing.

To me, what you say here is the real lesson of our present predicament and should be the core organizing principle of the tea party movement.

Conservatives often vote every two years and then do other stuff. Set and forget. Leftists are pushing leftism everywhere and always, 24/7/365.

Ridding the GOP of RINOs and then keeping them out, while winning majority control for the GOP, will never be a "set and forget" proposition. The left will do to all of our future leaders what they have done to Bush, Palin, Reagan, etc. "Scandal", calumny, and blame, non-stop. They will also incessantly promote useful idiots like McCain to undermine us from within.

If we conservatives don't learn to match the left for energy and constancy, we will continue to lose our Republic.

WE MUST START IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDURES OF THE COURT! It is THE check on the court by the legislature and the people!

What we need, is a constitutional amendment which will give the congress and the president the option to set aside a supreme court ruling and void any precedent associated with the decision.

It must be a constitutional amendment so that the supreme court cannot declare it unconstitutional. I know that this will take long time, but it is the only way for us to gain control over a politicized court. I detest liberalism as much as anyone and the only thing I admire about liberals is that they never give up. They have been trying to get control of healthcare for 100 years and they have finally gotten it.

Conservatives have got to adopt the same determination if we are ever going to have our attitudes prevail. But we have to start now.

No drinking at all.

Read the constitution. Check out the details there. We live in the kingdom of man, not of God. Unfortunately.

Justices can, AND should, be impeached when they bastardize the constitution. Of course winning the House, Senate & the White House must occur first.

If justices are allowed to continue to legislate from the bench. To what end is a victory in the Congressional and Presidential campaigns? To what end? Unless the Legislature and Presidency exerts its’ authority over the judicial branch. We can never right the ship of state. It is that simple.

There is a lot more to the decision than most of us understand from listening to the news commentors deliver their own spin.

It is pretty clear that John Roberts has put the turd in our pocket (as lawyers like to say) and told us to get busy and take responsibility for the direction of our country. We are at the point of no return. If we don't get busy and elect conservative majorities and then hold their feet to the fire, we will get what we deserve.

There are no substitutes for great parents, as you obviously know.

John Roberts was parenting yesterday.

It is clear to me that us big kids must change the poopie diapers.

Yes! And we can start by eliminating the Turd droppers. IE Roberts and Kagan first. A good case can be made that Roberts medication has affected his cognition and made it imperative that he be removed from the bench. Kagan is a disaster and refused to recuse even though she helped to draft the defense of the law when she worked at the White House. A clear case of ethics violation.

This is low hanging friut and would serve as a warning to future justices that they interpret laws, not wright them!
