Chief Justice John G. Roberts is an evil genius. The ruling to uphold the Affordable Care Act is, on its face, a win for President Obama both because the media are saying it is and because it is the signature piece of legislation of his first term. But it may turn out to be a pyrrhic victory, as Roberts accomplished numerous, subtle victories for conservative Republicans.

Evil genius? No. Just plain evil? Perhaps.
Regardless we should view this as a clear win. Because we got something even better than an overturning of the law; we got a open and tacit acknowledgement from the SCOTUS that they are unwilling to act in even the most egregrious examples of power grabbing. They are and will remain the rubberstamp. And they did this while everyone was watching.
So thank you CJ Arnold. Through this ruling you’ve made it obvious that the political game is rigged. The myth that the SCOTUS acts as a sort of court of last resort to protect our liberties died.
Yeah, the truth hurts. But it eventually will set you free.
“That means we will have to rely on immediate rationing.”
It is already here.
It had to be in the nature of a bribe. A threat wouldn’t have left him joking and laughing before jetting off to Malta right after spitting in our faces.
Tell us Harry, what did GWB know about the real Roberts and when did he know it?
What did GWB know, and when did he know it?
I’ve had my own moments of anger at Bush in the last 2 days. But perhaps he just didn’t have enough political capital to get through a more Scalia-ish guy?
I don't recall any objections to Roberts from any conservative pundits or activists. The choice was universally applauded.
Then, he does...this!
I haven’t turned on the TV since the Klinton impeachment hearings. Saves me a lot of mental agitation.
BREAKING NEWS! Chief Justice Roberts was arrested today for bank robbery. Know how they caught him, even though he was wearing a mask? They knew it was him right away when he yelled, “Give me all your money, but this isn’t a stick-up, it’s a TAX!”
Who knows, maybe Dubya put him up to it, or Mittens, or Clinton, or even the muslim. It doesn’t matter, my 8th grader knows enough now to know this wasn’t a vote put forth out of integrity and experience. And my guess is that even if it works for Mittens and he wins, he won’t repeal it.
Anther classic Roberts apologist. If Roberts wanted to simply “falsely” paint himself as impartial he had already done that with Arizona case. That’s 2 for 2 with liberals john why dont you marry them.
You got it. I wish everyone would think like you have and stop being so emotional about this.
I really don’t think it will ever become a law. Roberts threw in a lot of stumbling blocks and road closures.
Real genii do not needlessly wager the Constitution and our economic and health future (while bluffing on fools' odds) at the judicial equivalent of Texas Holdem, especially when they were winning the game.
.
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
Heck, it doesn’t even have to have been Obama. We already know that too many RINOs operate sub-rosa as old-line progressives. They bide their time, and then at just the right moment they make their play for the team. You have seen it in various senators from time to time, and even in allegedly TEA Party congressman who voted last August 1 to give Obama complete authority over the debt ceiling (limitless credit).
Imagine some former president even, maybe two weeks ago, stopping by for a chat and making Roberts an offer he couldn’t refuse. Whomever thinks such things only happen in fiction have forgotten that truth is stranger than, and have also refused to acknowledge how undermined American institutions have become from within.
Whatever happened to change his mind, happened recently. Because the other justices wrote their opinion with language that suggests that Roberts was with them and then suddenly was gone.
Also, Roberts explanations are like gobbledegook. The ACA penalty is a tax, but isn’t for purposes of the injunction clause that would allow challenges before the tax has to be paid. Huh? Inconsistent much? And now it’s case law? WTF?
And, also, Roberts never tells us which of the allowable taxes under the constitution this “tax-penalty” is.
Mark Levin, who spoke of this both yesterday and today, explains simply how this is none of those. Listen to his podcast comments within the first 30 minutes for the last two days over at marklevin.com, it’s actually quite a good lesson.
If that were the case wall he would have to do is come clean. Anyone that would sell the country out because of a threat to himself or family member is a traitor, pure and simple.
That aside I consider him a traitor anyway.
Actually they took that power a long time ago, when a Federal Judge ordered Kansas City to raise taxes in order to build the most outrageous school system ever, and it was a colossal failure.
John Roberts is an evil genius the same way Wile E. Coyote is an evil genius and look how Wile E. ended up.
