The late conservative sociologist and evangelical Christian, James Q. Wilson, made an interesting observation on the manner in which Blacks, Jews, and Evangelicals relate to one another. Here is his fascinating 2008 article: http://www.city-journal.org/2008/18_1_evangelicals.html
Here is a summary of his article. White Evangelical Christians are the strongest supporters of Israel in America, and their support for Israel comes from their religious beliefs that Israel is a fulfillment of scripture. But most American Jews have never been great fans of evangelicals, despite great efforts on the part of evangelicals to reach out to Jews.
Jews are the one white ethnic group, that has the strongest record of supporting civil rights for blacks. Jews have a strong record of supporting affirmative action for blacks, despite the fact that affirmative action harms Jews. Despite this, ADL studies have shown that blacks have the highest levels of anti-semitism of any group, with the exception of Muslims. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have made anti-semitic remarks, but this has not harmed their careers. In fact, the anti-semitism of Sharpton and Jackson has made them national celebrities, and has led to them being celebrated as national figures.
Compare the treatment that Al Sharpton gets, hosting his own show on MSNBC, with the treatment that Pat Buchanan has received. Sharpton is much worse than Buchanan, with regard to anti-semitism. Sharpton helped incite the Crown Heights riots in 1991, which killed a Jewish Student called Yankel Rosenbaum. Then there is a long list of black anti-semites who are loved by blacks, such as Louis Farrakhan, Leonard Jeffries, Amiri Baraka, Andrew Young, Khalid Muhammad, Steve Cokely, Tony Martin, David Dinkins, Malcolm X, Cynthia McKinney, Alton Maddox, etc.

John Scopes didn’t enjoy much of this. Like Dred Scot and Norma McCorvey, he was never the true client. IAC. Summer of the Gods by Larson is best most authoritative book on the trial. You can get a copy for #o.02 plus postage on Amazon. I doubt your high school teacher know more about it than the movie.
Tom Sowell has written a book, The Black Red Neck, “ (?) Just think of the average black as a kind of half-brother to the Red Neck, no matter where he lives. The irony is that they are so alike in their attitudes, including their anti-intellectualism. I am reminded of that Star Trek episode where the two men, one who is black on one side and white on the other, while in the other the colors are reversed. Race war in the South has always been a struggle for power between peoples who have more in common with each other than northern and southern whites did. Or at least that used to be the case.Lyndon Johnson was a very unpleasant man, but he broke segregation because he knew what it had done to both blacks and whites in the South. It had turned whites into jailers and blacks into inmates, but both were in jail.

The 1960 film ‘Inherit The Wind’ was based on the 1955 play of the same name. The authors of the play stated very clearly that their work was a fictionalization and not to be taken as historical record. This play, like ‘The Crucible’ a couple of years before, was meant to be an allegory of ‘McCarthyism’.

You just don’t have the knowledge base nor the interest to be able to know anything about the last 80 years of American history and how blacks were rolled, and the left gained such radical successes.

The Jewish view is wrong. A Jew is all the more a Jew upon acknowledgement of his Messiah. The question for a Jew must be "Is Jesus (Yeshua) the Jewish Messiah?". That question should be examined with whole heart, without prejudice, before The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Coming into the knowledge of The Messiah in no way stops a Jew from being a Jew, but rather enhances his/her Jewishness.

The article is a book. I guess what I say doesn’t make sense if you don’t get the simple fact that the culture of black Americans is southern American. Southern Americans are in fact a mixture of white-black-and red ancestery,attitudes and customs, differing by degree not kind. Despite differences of race, the average white Mississipian differs more from the average New Yorker than he does from his black neighbor. A black Mississipian who immigrates to New York, like a white person from the same place, retains much of his southern culture in his new place. Al Sharpton is a politician who is foolish in the ways that older white southern politicians were fools.
That wasn’t what the essay was about, Sowell was not talking about modern Southern whites, but he was talking about modern blacks.

I've looked at extracts and overviews but to be fair haven't evaluated the entire book. What I saw struck me as a bit TOO stereotyped and a bit strained. The actual South was a mix of ruffians and gentlefolk, and making black-and-white statements about the whole that are true is difficult if it is even possible. I'd like to think that in this mix, the rougher edges of redneck tended to get smoothed out while keeping the fun loving spirit.
Ipso facto, if he was talking about southern blacks, he was talking about some “modern”southern whites, and certainly about many of their fathers and all their grandfathers, if they were poor. The rural south has changed radically since 1965, but attitudes seldom do. Black politicians like Sharpton prey on the fears of blacks that Southern whites have the same attitudes as their dads and granddads. But aspart from that, Sowell notes the anti-intellectualism of black politicians and indeed the ordinary black Amertican. That comes from the southern experience. Classmates of Robert E. Lee;s sons at Yale noted their high intelligence, but it took the form of animal spirits, of temperament.
“Gentlefolk?” The gentlefolk were not especially “genteel,” Thangs have changed a lot in fifty years, and it may not be as true as it used to be, but southern manners used to be better than northern ones, because, for one thing, it was a society of deference. IInsult a man and you were likely to pay a high price. Glen Campbell made a movie which was set in Arkansas, and his character was supposed to insult another, and they were trade insults for awhile. Campbell demurred: he told the director, a Californian, that if his character did say something like this to other character, that the replay would be a fist, not a retort. If you want to understand urban blacks hatred of being “dissed.” It started “back home.”

I won’t argue. I’m not in a position to. But it does sound a little weird.
And anyhow, how many generations of black people with chips on their shoulder have to pass before it mellows out? It wasn’t until modern welfare schemes bribed black families into being dysfunctional that the trend of improvement in black families over time reversed, and reversed badly. Modern pugnaciousness seems more due to insecurity than it does to ancient ancestral custom. At least IMHO.
Southerners have always been more mannerly than northerners. North and south , though. a person minded his tongue in polite society. Dwelling was still done in Dc until the 1840s. As to the blacks, it took a hundred years for the Irish immigrants to get “ironed out,” if indeed they are yet. Indeed, one can trace the violence back to Ulster and Scotland. Andrew Jackson was the first Irish-American president. His garndparents were born in Ulster, and his father came from there. Of good family, although since he was orphaned at 15, he was a poor relation.
David Dinkins an anti-Semite? I don’t think so. What ails him is the fact that he was a small-minded party machine politician who got elevated beyond his level of incompetence, and he drowned in it, and was replaced by a truly great mayor who transformed the city. I was there. I saw it all happening. Dinkins might be embittered towards Jews who, in the aftermath of the Crown Heights Pogrom, turned their backs on him despite years of pandering. But I turned my back on him long before that.
i'm irritated with the blanket statements, especially on FR. Let's take black voters. Nearly 80 or 90% voted for Obama, but i'm sure that nearly ALL the black conservatives on this site did NOT vote for him. so why do some idiots say "all blacks". it's the same about Jews and Catholics. The folks on this board are not democrats
