The article is a book. I guess what I say doesn’t make sense if you don’t get the simple fact that the culture of black Americans is southern American. Southern Americans are in fact a mixture of white-black-and red ancestery,attitudes and customs, differing by degree not kind. Despite differences of race, the average white Mississipian differs more from the average New Yorker than he does from his black neighbor. A black Mississipian who immigrates to New York, like a white person from the same place, retains much of his southern culture in his new place. Al Sharpton is a politician who is foolish in the ways that older white southern politicians were fools.
That wasn’t what the essay was about, Sowell was not talking about modern Southern whites, but he was talking about modern blacks.
