I'm curious: with what may be our country's most important Supreme Court decision due tomorrow, what do all you fellow Freepers see as our collective, national future - and your personal future - if ObamaCare is left intact?
The Civil War brought us the 14th Amendment which binds the extension of equal protection and due process of law upon the States themselves individually.
Before the 14th the Bill of Rights was viewed as protecting citizens Only from incursions upon those rights by the Federal Government.
14th was ratified in 1868 and since then Every SCOTUS has dodged the issue of incorporating under the 14th and making binding upon the States the protections of the 2nd and 7th Amendments. Hence, Over 22,000 infringements on the 2nd’s shall not be infringed.
SCOTUS needs to begin embodying its true Constitutional function and quit ducking the tough and extremely unpopular, (among the political class) calls on What is directly violative of the Founders Intent, and written expressions of their Intent.
Even if SCOTUS tosses the whole O’care thing, wild celebration is uncalled for. We are headed for the brick wall. Repealing it in toto only removes the latest brick off of the pile of them already weighting down the gas pedal.
There is only one potential favorable, which would be decreased age discrimination in hiring and retention. This is greatly outweighed by the negatives, however. One topic that is rarely touched upon would be the very likely introduction of racial and gender beancounting as far as attempting to manage the statistics. Some will receive extensive care and others less so, for the same condition. Look only to education and hiring practices to see this aspect of the future under Obamacare.
But every Merkan will get free 2way satellite TV. 1984 channels.
I am not laughing. If they can force us to buy ONE thing, they can force us to buy ANYTHING.
It's my line in the sand. That's what I decided when I first heard of it.. Maybe I can get a cell near Ann Barnhardt, and we can rant all day.
You’re not kidding and that’s ok.
If only the mandate is taken out, we will be left with a crippled bill that must be reversed by a republican majority in both houses and the presidency in November.
Total shutdown and resistance against the beginning of the Forced Labor Camp, U.S. Territory.
“If it stands, America the Free is over.”
No, then we have a reckoning. That would get real ugly, real quick. U.S. citizens go ape-crap over a wrong order at the McDonald’s drive-thru -— start messing with them and giving them the runaround with their healthcare, and you’ll see extreme-nutso on every level!
SCOTUS is not in charge, as much as they might like to think they are.
Accepting your premise, and assuming that Americans do not go into full revolt over the thing, I think it will morph into a patchwork of mooshed-together goulash of weird-ass programs that will require and demand ever more funding to produce goofball, unanticipated results of every description and defying anyone’s ability to predict. Agency after agency will spring up here, there, and everywhere, requiring more and more funding seemingly without end. Meanwhile, some sort of black market will gradually evolve, and I would suspect that great numbers of US doctors will retire or quit the business, and set up shop offshore in maybe the Bahamas, or Mexico. The US will experience tremendous shortages of doctors and personnel of all sorts, hospitals will close, and chaos of virtually unlimited scope will prevail in the healthcare system. Meanwhile, government will greedily capture more and more of the industry, converting it into a macabre Monty Python skit of fatal dimensions.
Yes, like mandatory sedation or forced labor.
!!!
The nightmare scenario goes as follows
Kennedy sides with the liberals. Roberts then turns on a dime and also votes with the liberals in order to write an opinion which limits what the government can force you to purchase to healthcare insurance and healthcare insurance only...for now.
And don’t open the mail (”never received it”) or answer the phone. Phone ID exponential growth. No trespassing.
We are already mandated to buy auto insurance in our state. Otherwise they revoke your driving license.
I am generally against anything government runs, but do not know what is a good solution when people show up at hospitals without health insurance. IMHO hospital should have the right to refuse admission.
Yes, that hard fascism is what they’ve always been after. Forced Labor Camp.
“. IMHO hospital should have the right to refuse admission.”
You’ve got that straight. Immediate behavioral modification.
The republican congress will do nothing. They will pout and cry but will not do anything to get rid of obamacare.
