Boehner: If Supreme Court strikes down health care law, ‘there will be no spiking of the ball’
Yahoo News ^ | 6-21-12 | Chris Moody

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care law within the next week, and House Speaker John Boehner has issued a pre-emptive warning to fellow House Republicans if parts of the law are struck down: Forget about celebrating.

In a memo sent to his entire caucus Friday, Boehner warned members not to gloat over what most Republicans would see as a victory.

"[I]f the Court strikes down all or part of the president's health care law, there will be no spiking of the ball," Boehner wrote in the memo. "Republicans are focused on the economy—and under President Obama's policies, our economy is struggling. We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation's economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire."

“Looks like an attack to me, and a personal one on most of the respondents in this thread? We can’t attack Boehner, but it is OK for you to attack us? Got it.”

If you think that my observations and commentary are an attack it’s a good thing I didn’t really attack you. And to think you call Boehner a wimp/s......Try wearing your thicker skin, I’m not buying your “I’m being picked on, you low brow brute” act.

The point of the whole discussion is whether or not we would like the Republicans, with Boehner carrying Pelosi’s outsized gavel, linking arms, and gloating with fellow House Republicans, while they march across the Capitol Mall on their way to the Supreme Court Building to do a Happy Dance for you, and others, in order to give you your daily ration of “red meat” over the final defeat (something at this point we are not entirely sure of) of the horrid piece of Liberal/Socialist legislation known as ObamaCare by the USSC.

The picture of Pelosi and Friends marching across the Capitol Mall in victory, prematurely celebrated, after the passage of that very same bill has been a rallying image for Republicans, TEA Party activists, and your average Joe Sixpack, since the day that picture was taken......Sorry FRiend, but neither I, nor Boehner, think that such a scene, or something similiar, recorded by the MSM and spread across the nation news with derogatory comment, would do much in the way of advancing the Conservative Cause or Restoring our Nation. In fact it’s effect would be quite the opposite.

But you go ahead. You’re a big boy now, and certainly don’t need my permission to do whatever, and, if I read your posts correctly, you have a burning need to celebrate your self-declared expertise in “political accumen” by poking your finger in the liberals eyes for the whole world to see what a brave man and your fellows are. Yep, that’ll show ‘em. Yep, for sure, you’re MY hero!/s

Do the words “Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory” ring a bell? Uh-Huh, yeah, thought so./s

BTW the Trojan Horse is exactly apropos, not a “tortured analogy”. Reading Comprehension is your friend. See above.

Consistently wrong. Across the board.

And your juvenile potshots, coupled with a guiltless, passive-aggressive act grows tiresome.

Not worth a second more of my time.

Have a nice day.

Come one...be nice. We all know if the Supremes uphold the law Obama wouldn’t spike the ball either. /sarcasm.

on a serious note we need to take this opportunity to educate Americans on the constitution. Don’t spike the ball, instead EXPLAIN why it was overturned. And then pivot to explain how we need to stop spending our great-grandkids money.

What the hell is holding the SC up? This is ridiculous. The month is almost over. Surely they have already reached a decision and written their arguments by now.

The only reason I can think of for them not announcing yet is because obama is forcing them to delay,,,still trying to twist arms.

They want to wait until the very last day they are in session so they can get out of Dodge when they release the ruling. Cowards!

So Speaker Boehner is saying don’t celebrate if SCOTUS overthrows ObamaCare? Who died and made him God? This is not leadership, but rather demagogic fear-mongering. To say that the people opposed to ObamaCare, many of whom have worked long and hard to defeat this absolutely awful, rammed-down-the-throat, unconstitutional piece of cryptic ‘back room dealing’ legislation, should not celebrate and celebrate loudly and long is the height of arrogant horse-hockey. I’ll tell you what Mr. Speaker, instead of dictating unnecessary behavior requirements to the rest of us, including members of your own party in Congress, you need to grow a pair and quit being afraid that any celebratory outburst would be seen as “spiking the ball.” You can bet Pelosi and Reid and their minions did plenty of “spiking the ball” after pushing through their legislative abomination on 3/21/2010. Get a hold of yourself, man! Quit trying to turn the rest of us into sun-tanned wusses like yourself!

Wow! You’ve got that PC termonology down pat! Comes in handy when you don’t have a cogent arguement doesn’t it?

I agree.....Ta Ta Sonny!

“Republicans are focused on the economy—and under President Obama’s policies, our economy is struggling.”

So, if the SCOTUS delivers a fiscal victory to the American people that will prevent billions of un-funded dollars to be spent, Boehner wants his fellow Republicans not to rejoice?? An act that the GOP legislature couldn’t prevent when Obamacare was passed??

Who elected this guy into the House Leadership?

READ HIS ENTIRE MEMO THAT THIS ARTICLE SELECTIVELY EDITS:

He does not say drop it, just let’s not gloat. Crowing about this would be incredibly stupid.

“Repealing it completely is part of the solution ... but it is only one part.
Americans opposed the president’s health care law when it was enacted, and they have only grown more opposed to it since then. From listening to the people, Republicans know the critical points remain these:
* The president’s health care law is making things worse—driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers. The only way to change this is by repealing ObamaCare in its entirety.
* Unless the Court throws out the entire law, we need to repeal what is left of ObamaCare and enact common-sense, step-by-step reforms that protect Americans’ access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost.
* Republicans will not repeat the Democrats’ mistakes. We won’t rush to pass a massive bill the American people don’t support.
* Health care coverage has become too expensive for too many people. The number-one health care concern of families and small business is the cost of health care, and Republicans’ health care reforms will lower costs.
* Women make approximately 80 percent of the health care decisions made for their families. Republican health care reforms will ensure families and doctors make health care decisions—not Washington.
* We want families to be able to make their own choices in health care, visit the doctor of their choosing, and receive the health care they and their doctor feel is best. Those decisions shouldn’t be made by Washington.
As I, Leader Cantor, Whip McCarthy and other leaders have made clear in recent days, the House will act in the coming weeks on legislation to repeal any part of ObamaCare that is left standing by the Supreme Court. Such action is critical for jobs and our economy and for the health care of millions of American families.”

I urge you all to read the memo. He does not say we won’t use this for political advantage and even work to repeal the bill, just not celebrate.

Why does he feel it EVEN NECESSARY to make this warning about “gloating”? What is the point?

There is not a history of conservatives/Republicans behaving in this manner. Certainly not to the extent of causing harm to any larger goal or issue.

I don’t think he’s saying we can’t celebrate. I think he means we shouldn’t lower ourselves to the childish level of progressives and rub it in.
