A New York bus monitor who was berated and bullied by a group of middle school students has received more than $200,000 in online donations.
Karen Klein, 68, is seen in a 10-minute viral video attempting to ignore the verbal attacks by students on a bus operated by the Greece Central School District, near Rochester, N.Y. Children on the bus hurl repeated insults and threats at the grandmother, calling her fat and at one point suggesting that her children commit suicide.
But donations have since poured in for the grandmother in hopes that shell take a vacation of a lifetime, according to fundraising site indiegogo.com. As of midday Thursday, a total of $201,925 had been received for Klein and the video had been viewed on YouTube more than 1.6 million times.

“This does NOT deserve the attention of the government. I cant believe how liberal you sound.”
It does in one way: identify the worst of those little bastards and expel them.
Apparently the job has no teeth; she had no authority to stand up to these brats within incurring more trouble. Personally, I am still amazed at her calm.
I have checked out the responses to the original video, and the sentiment is overwhelming.
The school district had an interview this morning, and the kids will be answering for their conduct.
I sure hope the kids found their consciences, whether with “help” or otherwise. They at the very least owe the woman a sincere apology, and if they’d do things like help mow her grass it would be even better. Even with that, she still should go after the school district IMHO for setting up such a ludicrous situation.
While the majority of "Elderly abuse" cases probably do involve an elderly person not being properly cared for by a family member or other, the law also is used to address incidents where the ambulatory elderly are attacked by perps out in the community. As far as this particular case, I cannot understand why the "monitor" did not pursue assistance from the bus driver.
School board just had press conference, and said some of the conduct warrants police action, but at the request of Karen charges will not be pressed against them.
As Karen as already said she does not want criminal charges filed against them, the parent should insist on the community service.
They're charitable contributions from private citizens. It's not gains from a lawsuit or a government handout. I don't think "big payout" is the appropriate terminology here.
I’d have swatted the brat’s rear, death threats or no, unless perhaps it was abundantly clear the brat had been truly conscience stricken and was trying his darndest to make good. Doing stuff so bad it brings death threats... that should be winked at??
Are you referring to the woman in question or the lack of repercussions against the kids/hyenas who were abusing her?
All four of the bullies were boys. Guess puberty has not kicked in yet cause one sure sounded like a girl.
She shouldn’t spend one red cent on attorneys. Let some benificient attorney take her case pro bono, or at least on contingiency. Furthermore, I hope some benificient financial planner helps her invest her new-found money some place safe.
I would have been paddled by my bus driver, no need to go back to school or wait until I got home!
The web and things like You Tube have made things possible that people might have wished were possible in the past when they were not.
That said, surely there are even worse injustices in the world than being a grown-up having cruel words flung at you by children. I hope some of them are getting web support too.
Looks like it is in the parents and school district hands to determine their punishment.
In a case THIS egregious I could understand why. You don’t have to agree in your head with everything your elders do, but you ought to respect your elders and treat them civilly.
Years ago... gosh, 20+ years, I rode a bus as an “assistant” to the driver. Sat one boy down beside me when he was acting outrageously, and he repeatedly punched me in the ribs. I begged the bus driver to stop the bus and help me, he refused. Last time I rode a school bus. That was 20+ years ago. I just can’t imagine now.
The drill now, I guess, would be to call the cops and have them waiting for the bus at the school.
Quite obviously she was not in a position to defend herself if those horrifying pottymouths had ganged up on her physically, which was a real and present danger. She appears to be a granny whose strength is love, not intimidation.
As for the money, even $250K that I hear has been raised will not be worth the hell of public intrusion into her life that is going to harass her for the rest of her days. And it is also hardly "wealthy." Tax exemption only applies to the first $13,500.
Where are the parents and why are they raising such fitly mouthed children.
